Well leave BG alone. He's a good dude.

Unfortunately for him, he looks like the only target left.

It's been pretty civil so far. Not really targeting him, just explaining how it's virtually impossible for PS4 to stay stagnant for 2.5 months at 7 millions sales.

Oh I agree with that. BG himself even said that Sony was at 7 mil when Xbox was at 4 mil.

But I'm talking about the vultures waiting for someone to pop in and make a younstar type comment.

Ah, okay. I don't know. The way I see it, X1's already launched in the countries where it would be the most popular already so the other ones won't be as significant relatively speaking. I'm just saying don't expect a huge and significant boost when it does launch in those countries. Then again, I could be wrong and pleasantly surprised.

Ah, okay. He may be wrong. Sony's already announced 7 million sold through in middle of April. It's been almost 2.5 months now, pretty sure it's gone up since then. If anything, the 9 million may be shipped through numbers with sold through just behind.

Yes but it's the most recent news so it's all we have. They definitely passed 7 million, the NPD stats prove that alone but it looks like they haven't reached 8 million yet (or if they did, it was very recently). Sales did take a pretty big drop in the US after March (300k+ to 200k every month after).

We'll just have to wait and see, I guess. I'm assuming they're pretty close to 9 million by now, maybe between 8.5-8.8 million sold through to consumers.

Great news, the more PS4/X1's out there the sooner devs will start making multiplats just for the current gen

lol @ this nonsense, seeing as Sony hit 7m in April. I somehow doubt PS4 literally stopped selling the following 2 months.

Not nonsense, as I said earlier it's the most recent sales news that Sony gave. It obviously did pass 7 million with NPD stats alone but we don't know exactly where it's at yet since Sony hasn't said anything.

It is nonsense, his tweet literally states PS4 has sold 7m to date (3/7/14) as told to him by Sony. Somehow I'm highly doubting anyone at Sony who has access to that information would tell him a to date number that is outdated by nearly 3 months. More than likely no one at Sony has told him anything due to not being at liberty to give out that information or they didn't have it in the first place. He just made a tweet going by numbers from back in April to quell the rumor of the console being north of 9. If we go by Media Create (as of 6/29) and April/May NPD PS4 has sold 475k between US and Japan; if we lowball the US' June NPD numbers and say PS4 only sold 120k that puts it just south of 500k; add in EU numbers for the missing months and PS4 is most likely north of 8m (that being contingent on EU numbers which are not known).

Also, MS announced they shipped 5m units to retailers back in April during that same timeframe that Sony announced 7m sold to consumers. Somehow I'm also doubting Xbox One has completely stopped selling during the 3 months; alternatively we can make an educated guess and say MS has sold 4.7-4.8m to consumers based on their 5M to retailers statement leaving 200k-300k on store shelves across the world. So this rumor is also saying that XBO has outsold PS4 WW in those 3 months...which we know not to be true for April and May. And somehow I'm highly doubting XBO outsold PS4 in by some astronomical amount to make up for the difference in May and April.

EDIT: They are effectively saying XBO hasn't sold for s*** during these three months including June. If XBO is 'north of 5m units sold' now, but back in April MS stated they had shipped 5m to retailers (giving us like 4.6-4.8m to consumers) they're basically saying XBO has only sold like a quarter of a million (being generous) over the course of three months including June with the price cut while PS4 quite possibly moved more than 1.xm in that same time frame. You really believe that Bgamer?…

15 years would be awesome actually. Loving the long term lifespan of these consoles.

Come back and tell us that when a $200 mobile PC or hell a phone is able to produce much better looking, playing and deeper game play experiences.

8 years was too long and at this point 5 years is going to be too long. It's not going to be long before you can build a $300 PC that will mop the floor with these current gen consoles. Also, it's not going to be too long before these developers and publishers (but mostly publishers) realize that they can't create artificial parity between these consoles and PC's in the hopes of selling more games on consoles.

Respected journalist?

Is there such a thing?

I'll be sure to do that.

Yes, laugh at my post even though I used stats to show why I feel that this news isn't accurate (for both consoles).

Nice to see that the quality of discussion here hasn't changed much.

So they would put out this news before any major gaming website and or PR from the companies themselves? Don't really believe it.

Some people conveniently forget that most of these countries would post insignificant numbers anyway. There's a reason why MS hasn't launch in those countries yet, they're not really countries where sales would show anything decent.
fact remains... pointless comparing a consoles sales from japan against a console that is not yet on sale there.

i.e. your wrong to try and compare console sales between systems when not available in the same markets. try again next year when things should have changed.

How will they change?

Its been in the wind for quite some time that the Playstation brand is on a tear and a resurgence to the top is all but guaranteed at this point. Its not the easiest thing for me to admit as a fan of the Xbox consoles. But to deny it is to deny that water is wet and the sky is blue.

Well, its over folks and Sony won. Just kidding. ;)

I never thought the gap would be 2:1 in favor of Sony. There were a lot of people predicting it but I didn't think it would happen but here we are. I guess it started with the console reveals that went terribly bad for MSFT and incredibly well for Sony. MSFT never recovered in time to change opinions while Sony is still riding the momentum it got from the PS4 unveiling.

You're wrong....it's you're.

And fact still remains, it's a fair comparison to make. We could discount all of the countries that PS4 released in that XB1 did not, and PS4 would still have the higher numbers, by a lot. PS4 has been taking the lead in the major market that MS used to dominate in. That's it. The biggest market, US...and the PS4 is in the lead there. MS hasn't released in other markets yet because those markets are insignificant to begin with.

Chew on that.

Whether it's 7 or 9 (or somewhere in between), PS4's obviously doing fantastically well, and that's awesome for the industry.

Xbox One's meeting/exceeding expectations, so it's doing well too, but obviously not as well as PS4.

With new regions on the horizon this year, along with China, we should expect some swelling with X1 numbers, but I wouldn't expect a dramatic reversal in trends.

All around, it's good news for the gamer, and it's a clear indication we need to keep pushing. Better updates, better games, better services, better value... and it'll be tough. Sony's a great competitor.

I don't think those markets are insignificant to Microsoft. They are in terms of this dumb ass console war though.
