Far Cry 4: Official Thread

I don't know why, but Ever since Assassin's Creed 3, I've got this tendency towards completionism. I think I got 99% in AC3 and Black Flag. I did it in Far Cry 3 as well.

I will likely do it in FC4. Every. Single. Icon.

Fvck that! If it weren't pretty much the same thing for every side quest type I might be inclined to go for them all. That and I have like 3 games going concurrently, should never have done that :(

I've got 4 of the main story missions left, but everything else is wrapped up -- unlocked all the bell towers, conquered all the outposts, finished all the Longinus and Yogi & Reggie quests, maxed out every perk except for karma boosts (which is useless since my karma is topped off). There are a few unlocks that I won't bother with, because they require stuff I don't feel like doing (e.g., ranking up in the Arena).

I'm glad they're generous with the checkpoints in this game. I seem to be dying a lot lately.

I saw three vans driving down the road in real life today and thought to myself, "Pagan's Wrath!" Good thing I left my grenade launcher at home, or I might've gotten myself in trouble.

Just got back into it myself today, wrapped up all the bell towers and outposts in the north. I just gotta do the two remaining fortresses and a couple story missions and good riddance. I'm having a hard time getting back into it, thought some time off would help. At this point I'm just playing to get it done.

Well I just finished up the campaign. Really fun game overall, though it does get a bit tedious after you open up the North, though there aren't really that many main missions in the North. I cleared all the towers/outposts and finished the campaign. I didn't have the motivation to max out my skills, did the fashion week stuff (was pretty fun) and a few of all the other side stuff. If you want an easier time of things unlock the Buzzsaw in the sig guns. It's a beast LMG, almost max on all the stats w/a 400 round clip w/super fast reloads.

Damn. I want that gun. Any requirement other than the amount of money ?

Yeah, I only got to level 3 in the arena before losing interest. I might do it just to unlock the gun though. I just did the last Shangi-La level- that Boss fight

I wouldn't bother, Buzzsaw is all I gotta say, trumps all other weapons...

Well, I finished the game tonight. I felt let down by the story -- not that I was expecting much, but even then, I didn't like the way it resolved.

I didn't like that I had to kill Amita. That didn't feel right, it felt like I was carrying out his political agenda. I let her live, but that didn't make any difference to the outcome; she just sneered and disappeared. Sabal turned into a bit of a d*ck in the last couple missions, too. I felt like the power was going to his head and he was becoming indistinguishable from Amita. The way they wrapped it up made me feel sort of scuzzy. I guess that's the Far Cry style, though -- everyone's an a******, "extreme," or a maniac. Sort of like GTA in the Himalayas. The writers didn't do anything with the Bhadra story, either. Oh well, I guess Far Cry has never been about the story or characters.

At the end, I thought it was a no-brainer to kill Pagan Min, so that's what I did. That's presumably what I've been after this whole game. So, I shot him, and that's the end of the game: "fin." Seemed very anti-climactic. What happens if you decide to let him live?

I will let him live and let you know!

I too felt the same about the story, really anti-climactic.

can you choose to kill Amita? I let her walk outta the room too. I'm sure if you sided with her earlier it'd be Sabal you'd be tasked with killing instead. Everyone in the game is fanatical/extremist in their beliefs, there is no "level minded" thinking. I too chose to kill Pagan, too bad there isn't a checkpoint right before so you could see both outcomes (if you do have the option to let him live).

Good, I'll be interested to hear.

Yes, I'm sure you can choose to kill Amita. There's a point where you hold the gun to her head, and you just have to pull the trigger. I agree: if you sided with Amita, she'd want you to kill Sabal -- in fact, I expected that. I was surprised that they did it the other way around, too. I figured Sabal was too much of a good guy to kill Amita. Guess not.

I was also a little disappointed that they didn't do more with Pagan Min's character. He was a pretty interesting villain, and very well voice acted, but he didn't have much screen time.

The buzzsaw was a lot of help on that last mission.

I've still got Pagan's Fortress to conquer, but I think that's all I have left to do. I might screw around in the world a little more. We'll see. Not much reward/motivation to continue.

What do you get for completing the Shangri La quests, anyone know?

Mini review: The game was a lot of fun throughout the 50 hours I spent with it. There was a little sense near the end that the game was overstaying its welcome, but for most of the time, I really enjoyed the game and found it hard to put down. The combat never got old. The action was almost always entertaining. There were plenty of things to do (too many, really). The progression system was somewhat flawed -- on the one hand, it was nice to get perks so quickly, but on the other, this meant I maxed out my skills well before I finished the game, which decreased my motivation to continue.

The story could've been a lot better than it was, but I don't think people play Far Cry for the story. They play it for the combat, the action, the emergent gameplay, the variety of things to do in an open world ... in that regard, it really succeeded. Had I played it last year, it would've been a strong GOTY contender for me. I'd give it a 9.0.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts on FC4. A great time that just about overstays it's welcome. That Buzzsaw is a hell of a weapon too :D

Took over my last fortress, did my last Fashion Week quest (that was kind of a letdown -- I thought I'd get a snazzy-looking costume or something), got the last possible upgrade, and did all the sidequests I was interested in doing. The end.

There is the DLC -- Escape from Durgesh Prison and Escape from the Valley of the Yetis -- but it doesn't look interesting to me, at least based on what I've heard and seen. I've had enough of Far Cry and Kyrat for now. Good game, but it's time for something new.

This game just has those moments. I was buying ammo from a sherpa, when bam! Rhino. Sends the guy flying. I sprint for the car and all of a sudden I'm upside down. Damn rhinos!

LOL Yup, I love that about this game. The random stuff that happens is hilarious.

Well, I spoke too soon. I'm not quite ready to leave Far Cry yet. I loaded it back up. I'm going from outpost to outpost, picking up stray missions for assassination, hunting, bomb defusal, etc. Sometimes, I just drive around -- I like the auto-drive, btw -- and eventually run into an enemy truck, courier, convoy, etc. Sometimes I get a kick out of making a good shot and watching them explode. Just some random mayhem. I also like just getting in my whirly-bird and flying around.

How bleeping long is this game? I just played through the two Willis missions... dear god they were long. Fun, but long. How many more of these monster missions are there? Am I close to the end? I checked the mission list and there don't look like too many, but one long FC mission is all I have time for per gaming session. I haven't done bases/towers up north either.

The way you have to play the later missions is just so slow. You can't just rush in.

I think there are 4(?) Willis missions, and they all have to be done before you cap open the North.
There aren't really that many missions in the North, bunch of towers and side sh!t, but, only a handful of campaign missions

I can say my Far Cry days are over, after finishing the game and all of the relevant side stuff I'm burnt out on it. I traded it in the other day while I could still get something for it. Great times while it lasted though :)
