Anyone else think this is entering the Pokemon/Wii/Fidget Spinner category in terms of pop culture impact? This game is starting to be everywhere thanks to me and this thread...

Prediction time. I think Fortnite will go down as biggest game of the generation when all is said and done. It's free to play. It's damn good. Runs like butter on consoles and low end PC's. Has a 600 employee company behind it who can keep the game in the spotlight with constant weekly updates. Heck, Epic is even teasing a Switch version. In 5 years, we'll look back at this as the Fortnite generation like last gen was the Call of Duty gen. Mark my words.

I don't think we would look at it like COD because Fortnite isn't going to be the game that started the wave of Battle Royale copycats.

I don't think people realize how big and fast this game is growing. It's most likely at 50+ million players at this point and it's only been out for four and a half months. Those are absurd numbers. Heck, I would already argue that its crossed over into non gaming circles more than any other current gen game. The Union is a bit behind the curve when it comes to Fortnite.

You have to be one of the biggest cheerleaders I’ve ever seen for any property. If they are not paying you by now you should feel ripped off.
It's probably the best game of all time in terms of quality and potential, which for me is a fascinating combination. Watching it mature is just as fun as playing it.

Your analogy falls short because both Nickelback (radio and record industry) and Avatar (Fox) had massive insustries pushing those products to the masses.
Not only did people not care about Fortnite Battle Royale when it came out, but there was quite a bit of scorn directed at it at first. The only reason its grown into the biggest game in America is because of word of mouth. That's the highest indicator of quality a game can have.
You know who else grew like that? Zeppelin.

So four weeks ago Fortnite tops out at 2 million concurrent players. Last Sunday they reach 3.4 million concurrent players before the server load straight up crashes. This is the fastest growing videogame of all time. Union be sleeping on Fortnite.

But what I’ve noticed is you have two similar games, one is free and one you have to pay for, hmmm I wonder what the masses would rather try...
We know THL is a bit of a nut but you guys don't need to do damage control. People aren't just playing Fortnite because it is free. People are playing it because it is really good. Same reason PUBG is extremely popular.

PUBG on console is objectively worse than Fortnite.

Fortnite is the most played game in the world, not because it's free, but because it's beautifully designed.
As I said before, Union is sleeping on Fortnite. As I've also said before, most of the PUBG players here will switch over to Fortnite once they realize Fortnite is the hotter game.
