my biggest interest right is if scorpio supports double rate FP16 (a vega feature, when the scorpio interviews all talk about polaris) and any hardware for doing checkerboard rendering. I suspect checkerboard will be less useful as youll more likely get native 4k out of scorpio but who knows.

No its exactly the same difference and will show similar differences.

Exactly? Since when did ps4 have a better cpu than XB1? Since when did PS4 have 3gb more RAM and way higher bandwidth? Plus better sound.

This years best on screen visuals will be on the PS4 Pro.

That's all opinion and subjective. Zelda will win some "awards" lol. Yet some disregard Ryse when it won. When it comes to technically, Scorpio will deliver and that's can't be disputed.

I agree . To also add to what you just said, there was roughly a half TF difference between Xbox one and PS4 on the GPU side . there's nearly a 2 TF difference between Scorpio and PS4 Pro. The funny thing is Last year he said that Microsoft is getting out of the console game business . Remember quote him on that . Lol. I swear as many times as he said that it's a good thing he's not a meteorologist . Yikes ! Now there's a Scorpio .

Well... When are most of these awards handed out?

It's not like MS's window for awards will be that large.

It's like saying LaLa Land will win more Oscars than Moonlight this year...

Wait....

I saw on Neogaf alot of posters saying the pro versions of Battlefront 2 and others might look better because they have marketing deals with Sony. Remember how that worked out for BF1 on XB1?

I doubt we will see much implementation of checkerboard on the Scorpio. Native 4K being the selling point. If they can't get a game to run well at good settings at native 4K I can see devs dropping the resolution to 1440p/upscaling to 4K and simply dialing up the visual detail.

I don't think they will pay for parity but I think they will be paying to keep that Scorpio footage under wraps

Is that what it is when MS has a marketing deal and we don't see PS4 footage? or is it just a marketing deal? :p

"Marketing deal" is just another term for "shady bitch business."

It's not exactly for the good of a gamer, to deprive the competition from content and exposure to a game.

The one game that got it right, was Soul Calibur. The exclusive content was an extra character, Like Spawn and Master Chief or something, but the content was "instead of", with each console getting a different slice of pie.

The Ram is probably the biggest difference to be honest, going to native 4K is going to eat up a lot of the GPU advantage that Scorpio has over the Pro, the CPU is still "weak" it's just well suited for MS software but it's still only 200mhz faster than the one in the Pro now, don't forget the CPU in the Pro is 500mhz faster than the one in the base PS4 so that's over twice as fast and yet many say it's a modest increase. Most of those "but efficiencies" people are the same ones who were saying it was going to be Ryzen before, they just can't seem to understand these consoles aren't designed around having the best CPU on the market or even a current CPU, they get the most they can out of the cheapest one that'll work for the set up and then focus more on the GPU which is 100% the right thing to do IMO.

Yeah that's stupid, marketing deals don't work like that, they are what they sound like they are marketing deals meaning all of the marketing for the game will feature one platform only and it'll be the version of the game that's showcased to the press etc. Sometimes a dev will be say they want "parity" and not do much to differentiate between versions but I hate that, they should push each bit of hardware the best they can with the time they have to do it.

I hated the way Soul Calibur did it, it made me feel like I was missing something. It's one thing to include a character like say Master Chief in the Xbox and Kratos on the playstation but when they did that Darth Vader in one and Yoda in the other it pissed me off lol. Who the F wanted to play as Yoda? yeah he's cool but that little s*** wasn't fun at all lol.

Marketing deals are one of the things I wish didn't happen in this business, same with 3rd party exclusives and timed exclusives, both companies have done this kind of thing so nobody can claim to be innocent in it but it's not something anyone would miss if it went away IMO.

I think that GPU power going to 4K will be well spent, the native 4k games I have played I can tell over checkerboard. Its a legit advantage. Not to mention we will probably see middle ground solutions favoring performance like pro does for 1080p.

The difference is with the older consoles 720p or 900p was clearly not 1080p, CB is a great way to simulate 4K and while yes native 4K will be better CB doesn't seem like much of a step down. I really hope devs focus more on other things that make the games look better and leave resolution on the back burner so to speak. I think making a CB game with as many features turned to ultra as possible would make a game stand out against the Pro version more than just native 4K with a mix of high and some ultra vs CB with mostly high and some medium settings.

I'd also point out that not all CB is created equal, so far the best use of it I've seen is in Horizon ZD, other games have done a good job too but with varying levels of success, clearly dev talent and resources will also play a part. Horizon does an amazing job of handling LOD for a game with that level of fidelity, yeah some things fade in here and there but that's probably never going to go away especially in an open world game but compare how well that holds up to a game like Mass Effect Andromeda that has so few things on screen and still has bushes pop in 3 feet in front of the character at times, it's crazy to see how much different teams can get out of the same hardware.
