They threw on the forerunner stuff way too strong IMO! Halo - Reach Bungie just gave little pieces of forerunner here and there but here comes 343 and they blow the whole thing wide open! Halo isn't supposed to be about forerunners it's supposed to be about people! Once they took out the human aspect it lost so much! Halo 4 was a good attempt but they need to quit with all this sci-fi shenanigans!
I'd argue that Halo 4 is far more human than the first 3.

You can't keep the Forerunners a mystery forever if you want the story to progress. The same was done with the Covenant. You have to discover things to have a sense of discovery, lol.

I sure don't want too much sci-fi in my sci-fi!

I'll tell you this after playing all 4 campaigns back to back, my favorite of all 4 was Halo 4 and by far. 343 might have dropped the ball on MP but as far as campaign goes, they truly nailed it. Can't wait to see what they have in store for us and hopefully they fix MP so the game gets the credit it deserves, MCC and eventually Halo 5.

My only problem with Halo 4 was the gameplay got really repetitive at the end. Kill same 3 forerunner types with the single weapon that they actually drop. FPS games always get repetitive though.

The Halo 4 story was great (well at least the Cortana parts, the didact stuff was a little weird). Many of the Cortana moments were just epic.

I haven't played the others yet, but Halo 4 is the best game I've played on the Xbox One. Enjoyed it a lot more than when I played it on 360. Dunno, maybe this is a bit of a sad indictment of this generation in general, but it's just so much fun. I like the increased combat options (sprint etc.) and I'm a fan of the Promethean weapons.

I had a few games of Halo 2 Deathmatch, but I just can't muster any enthusiasm for that kind of MP anymore. Didn't have any problems getting matches. Hope they sort out the issues for the peeps having problems.

Damn what are you doing to get in games!? lol. Sometimes I can, but it doesn't ever make sense.

Well, I haven't tried that much man. Only Halo 2 so far and have gotten games whenever I've tried (sans the first few nights). Took a little bit, but just found some now. I'm just too terrible though. More inclined towards Halo 4 if it were there. Overall, playing Halo 2 MP really just makes me want to play Halo 5. With the increase in mobility options, it's just more my speed. I'm getting shot, but there's nothing I can do about it, I just want to run!

I am horrible at Halo as well. I always have been. With COD I can at least go positive most of the time (solo). Same with other games, maybe not always positive but at least not embarrass myself.

In Halo, forget it. In the game I was in last night I kept running into the same guy over and over and I never killed him once. His grenade throw was right on and I was just dead right after that.

Add the matchmaking issues on top of that and it gets super frustrating.

I can't do the H4 MP. Too much side variables and xfactors. I like H2 because it's raw. No abilities, no dumb items, just your weapon and the skills you brought to the match. That's why even though I love Gears, I hated all the new s*** that was brought to Gears 3. Not all new ideas are great ideas.

So, with the MP issues, does anyone recommend this game right now?

You can wait obviously, but I think they will get it fixed (sounds like the latest patch may even be it). The MP problems are terrible, because this really is a great game. Unless you have no interest in SP, you can start there. I'm having a blast playing through Halo 1 and 2 so far, and I normally never replay games. I remember H1 pretty well from the recent re-release, but I barely remember 2 (same with 3 which I haven't gotten to). Halo 2 looks really great.

The amazing thing is how well the gameplay holds up to today's standards. Maybe newer FPS games just have gone downhill, and maybe I'm just a Halo fanboy, but these are some of the best shooters I've played. I rarely touch single player FPS games anymore, but I will play through 1-3 for sure.

So isn't there another patch this week? Sucks because I'm having some of the fam over today and about half of them are halo fans from the old days, would have been nice not to sit the lobby for hours. lol

Have you tried today?

There was a patch yesterday. Either way, most people are off today, so customs.

I haven't.

Oh wow. Did you see any improvements?

It's complicated and would take forever to type, but basically I have been getting into games with a 95% success rate since launch. At launch that was limited to only one playlist, H2A anniversary. As the patches rolled out, my search times have improved dramatically, from about 5 minutes, to less than 45 seconds, then thirty and last night it was finding players in twenty seconds. Also last night is the first time other playlists were working consistently for me.

So, from my side of the couch, I'm seeing more playlists working. Played my first H4 BTB match last night. Search til connect to players dialogue is about twenty seconds now across all playlists.

I still haven't tried with a party though, so I don't know how well that will hold up. So I can't comment on teams staying together and such, though I have read some people on other forums having done success.

Tdlr: I'm lucky as hell and it's functioning well for me.

If anything the patch improved the search times but the rest is there.

Broken lobby after you finish a game, chat works sometimes, backing out of MM with people kicks them out.

Also uneven teams, play TS last night and it was 5vs 3. Sucked for those guys.

Managed to get in some team slayer matches, but the lags been horrible. Still no luck for me in other playlists.

Rumbles been working very well. I've been frequenting it due to its lack of teams. No need to worry about an imbalance there. (Even in juggernaut)

Every Tuesday night for the last two weeks I've been playing a lot of custom games with friends....we're looking for some additional heads so we can get a bigger group together...last week we had 6 people on and did a lot of 3v3 and 2v2v2.

If you're interested..quote this post and list your gamertag. I'll shoot you a FR.

We'll be on starting at 9:30pm EST on Tuesday Dec 2nd...and pretty much every Tuesday night. We play a mix of slayer and objective games as well....depending on the number of people we have playing we will choose larger or smaller maps.

Was gonna fire this baby up tonight, but I really don't got any motivation. The matchmaking process was/is so painful it killed my will to play! Halo 2 was the father of matchmaking and to come out 10 years later as an anniversary and be like this is unacceptable! Obviously it has some complex netcode, so why the fvck would they rush it?? I love Microsoft, but sometimes they make the dumbest mistakes. It's why Linux guys bag on them so hard!

For the love of God- don't turn on the Boom Skull! It's great at killing..... everything- even you! I can not get through truth and reconciliation with it on- the spaces are too tight, and grenades become deathtraps, especially with with the chain reactions in CE.

Went online last night and was able to get into two matches pretty quickly. Played a rumble pit (didn't do well) and a team slayer (someone dropped or quit so we were outnumbered 4-3). It was fun despite the two losses but it reminded me that with Halo Matchmaking with strangers is just not as fun as custom games with people from your friends list.

I'm surprised to hear so many people say 4 was their favorite Halo single player. It was my least favorite of them both in regards to story and gameplay. It is the only Halo I didn't finish on legendary. I played less Halo 4 both single and multiplayer that any of the other games. Including Reach....something about it just didn't feel the same.

I think, once I'm done with the Single Player campaign I'm going to mess around with Forge a little bit...good memories of forging on this Halo 3 map (Sandbox was the name)...there was a lower level to this map that I made a fun small map in.

I'm almost finished with the Halo 2 campaign. So much fun. I remembered the story but barely remember the missions. Halo 1 and 2 hold up very well against modern shooters, which is kind of a sad statement against modern shooters.

When MP actually works, I've found out that if I change my config to "bumper jumper" I am a bit less terrible. Being able to jump and aim at the same time helps a ton. I'm at least not embarrassing myself online now.

Yes the mini sandbox game play of Halo > COD style scripted predictable FPS campaigns.

Been out for a great while... The latest patch finally made the matchmaking working, and it's been a great fun. But still I prefer finishing up the SP.

I was just done with Halo CE Anniversary, and it really did not age that well. The charm is there, it's not that hard to see what people liked about it; but map design is really confusing, and all the backtracking and wave-after-wave design is not that fun. Saber Interactive's work on visual remastering feels somewhat generic as well, something that got a lot better with H2CE.

While I have to start with Halo 2 CE right now, I've played the first few levels of all the other games by now. So far, one game that surprises me through and through is Halo 3. A lot of things feel just right on both SP and MP, and the repetitive nature that plagued CE and H2 are completely gone. H4, on the other hand, is a different beast. While the dynamic nature of the previous games supported by active AI movement is somewhat lacking, I can see that 343 focused a lot on making Spartans feel powerful while balancing out the gameplay.

I really liked playing through CE, although yeah the map design is an issue. I got lost so many times in the game. Am I going against the arrows or with them now? LOL So many great moments in that game though. For a 10+ year old game I think it still holds up well.

Halo 2 was a blast to play through again. Of course that was the game I remembered the least with the CE Anniversary out not long ago.
