Hideo Kojima launches new studio and partners with Sony. PS4/PC targeted.

Will interesting to see what his new game is. Hopefully, it's something new and not a quasi-MG knock off kind of game.

But one thing's for sure, if it's a high budget game being started now, it won't be out till I'd guess 2018 at the earliest. That's 3 full years of development if his studio launches it in fall 2018.

Personally, I think his next game will be a high budget game coming in 2019, then a remaster on X2 and PS5 in 2020.

But you never know, maybe his studio will focus on less snazzy games where they can churn out modest budget games every couple years.

Other than From, are there really any relevant Japanese developers these days? They seem to have lost some steam from the days of old.
Off the top of my head, PD with GT and Capcom with SF games is still worthy.

Platinum games usually get highly rated, though sales wise isn't that great, but assuming you mean quality then you can add them.

But I know what you mean. The days of old where Konami, Capcom, Namco, Sega, SE dominating console gaming are long gone. A combo of repetitive gaming, western devs coming out and trying innovative stuff (many from PC roots) and more all-encompassing when it comes to genres and style.

There are so many gaming genres, but when it comes to Japanese devs, where's all the:

- Sports?
- Racers?
- Shooters?
- MMO?
- Open world action or RPG games?
- Indie games?
- Any peripheral based gaming like GH, Rock Band etc...

I guess it goes back to classic Japanese business which is a risk-adverse mentality. Keep chugging along with proven stuff, but it gets to a point it starts to dwindle down.

I have MG on my hard drive right now, and I'm just not interested in playing it. At all. Even the fighting games have lost their luster when compared to a game like Killer Instinct. I much prefer westernized gaming more so.

Wonder what this means for PES?

The death of PES means that Fifa turns into a pile of crap without any competition to push EA

They will keep pumping PES out for the next couple of years as it is still a decent seller worldwide for them. As soon as the licence costs outweigh the money that can be made back then Konami will kill it. This is probably what will up killing it, EA will snap up licences like Champions League, Europa, Copa Libertadores etc

PES sells such a small number compared to FIFA it can barely be called competition anyway. EA probably aren't happy that critics have started to turn and rate PES higher, though. There are plenty of people already who think that EA have been cruising the past few years with little if any improvement.

I can't stand FIFA, both the organisation and the game. EURO 2008 and FIFA 09 were the only EA games that impressed me, I just hate the way it plays and moves and looks and presents itself.

More importantly, Konami holds the rights to Bomberman.

So f*** Konami.

That's ok. I will wait for the definitive version on the Xbox One when it is released later at a lower price, includes all the DLC, and has had more time in the oven for better performance. :)

Um.

maaaaan. Why ya gotta do this to me.

I guess I'll end up buying a ps4 in 6 years just for one game like I did with the ps3. This is depressing..

Looks like Playstation Nation were right then. Also sounds auspicious that this was going to be the big PSX ending announcement. No way in Sony's mind did Paragon seem like a show ending announcement lol.

This could be a good thing for all concerned. MGS will get some new blood, and Kojima gets to go off and do something new.

Makes sense, something has to replace Last Guardian as Sony game most anticipated for 5+ years. Nature abhors a vacuum.

Now I want game details!

Yes, they are not the force they were used to (Star war reference is pure accident), but do you realise you are compare ONE country less than 1/2 the size of USA (population) to entire Western world, & ignoring many MMO & MOBA are made in Korea or Japan.

When you normalize Japan base on development/population size, I am sure they are still one of the leading players still.

Console popularity is down in Japan which is why they aren't as relevant.

Not sure what any of this has to do with Kojima. Its obvious that him and his team can still make good games.

Sad, but expected. Won't see a Kojima game on the Xbox again for probably 10+ years

Cool news. Will be exciting to see what could come out of this in terms of a brand new IP.

Honestly, Kojima and Sony teaming up isnt surprising at all. Hell, they'e been smacking each other's asses since I can remember. Good for them.

There is nothing fundamentally wrong with smacking each other asses.

Anyway, unrelated to topic, I love how energy was transfer from the vibration of butt of the right girl through the hand, to the butt of the left girl.

Saw it coming -- not quite separate studio coming, but them and Kojima creating an alliance, yes. This is pretty much game over in Japan

It's a parody of the #f***konami tag by Jim Sterling.

I'm operating at such a high comedic level you have to keep up, man.

Jokes.

f***konami. Give me Bomberman, ya basts

Glad to see him back on his feet and all that. His and Konami's relationship ended up just flat out weird there. Hopefully he makes something interesting again, I know lots of people like him, but I've found his work to be severely overrated at best and appalling at worst. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is pretty much the only game I've liked by him.

Nice. I imagine he's had a lot of creative juices blocked up because he's been stuck with the MGS franchise longer than he wished. I'm interested to see where he goes next. I hope it's a radical break and not just another iteration of stealth-based gameplay.
