Frustrating, right?
I've been checking daily for months. I wouldn't doubt this is Nintendo being itself again and telling Amazon/Best Buy/WalMart/Etc to hold off on orders until "launch day". The interest in this has been bigger than their current products which says a lot depending on your view.
When you do find it available, I wouldn't hesitate to buy a few extras either for gifts or resale. Total sellout is guaranteed.
No more preorders are going to happen. We are going old school.
And whats up with the 3 foot controller cable? Nintendo loves to baffle me with their stupid decisions.
Wow, so not just short bit also not USB so we can use a cable extender. I guess we can at least extend the HDMI cable so we can set the system and controllers 10 feet away to play.
They should have added an extra $20 to the cost and gone wireless.

They will sell extenders for it but because you need to push the reset button to access the menu/save states (add that to wtf decisions) you will be better off with a really long HDMI cord.
I think it's because a generic plug and play USB wouldn't be able to trigger the need to have to blow into the console like a cartridge feature.

The cord is about 1/3rd the length of the original controllers. lol
Here's a pic stolen from GAF showing what it looks like in real life usage for sake of seeing the length. They actually had a thread about this in July.
The funny thing is that it looks ridiculous already and the guy has it set up being pretty close as he's playing on what?.... a 27" screen?
Let's say someone wants to play some classic NES Mini on a 50-60" TV where they sit back 10-12 ft, what's the guy going to do? He'd have to buy a 10 ft extension cable... but then that defeats the purpose of having the NES Mini close to him where a gamer presses the system's home/menu button on the console.
So an alternative is to perhaps find extension cables for the back end power cord/HDMI, since the back end cables look like they are 6 ft.
Either way, totally dumb.

We put the controllers, which are essentially identical in every other way, side by side to see how they measured up. The NES Classic Controller has a cable that runs approximately 30 3/8 inches long, whereas the original NES controller’s cord is 91.5 inches long — more than three times the length.

I would put it into the unconscionable category. Adding 7-8 feet of length to that controller cord would have added cents not dollars to their production costs. Hey Nintendo, not everyone lives in 250 square foot paperwall apartments!

I heard they were maybe saving money by recycling the cords used for making the Wii nunchuks. Awful decision, but won't matter with my setup.
I'm going to buy a really long HDMI cable and power extension lead then balance the console on my head while playing.

This really solidifies the thought I've always had about Nintendo's designers. This cord length is getting slammed across the internet, it makes no damn sense. I'm really racking my brain trying to figure this out and I can't think of why this happened. They really fvcked this up with that.
I wouldn't be surprised if they lost 15% sales because of that. 15% doesn't sound like much, but lets say they profit 10 million in sales(I'm downplaying). Really? Just throw away $1.5 million Nintendo trying to be cute?

I always use a wired mouse because I don't want to mess with batteries. The $9.99 Raygo mouse I bought at Tiger Direct 5 years ago is 6 ft. It's so f'ing long I've always kept most of it's cord prebundled in its original shape (tie clipped cord and all).
Not only does it work great, but that was also the regular price. I'm sure some people had bought on sale for maybe $7.
So even the cheapest mice out there have longer cords.....
.... And it's standard USB, so I can plug it into anything and it will work. such as when I log in from home on my work laptop.

It's a change in business and technological philosophy. Generations back, it was all about beating other comapnies with unique controllers, high tech systems and tons of games.... 1st and 3rd party. All at a reasonable price.
Last few gens, it's all about skimping on hardware, skimping on game library, skimping on third party support, skimping on online features and cutting corners.
Although the one thing Nintendo has always done is release systems at good prices. I don't think they'd ever do MS and Sony strategies trying to sell a system for $400-600.

LOL. I had a wireless mouse before my wired one. A MS branded one too that was maybe $40.
