Microsoft At E3 2018

Didn't you say "Bruce Straley has called it that?"

That's not Bruce calling it that.

Potato potato. If he's saying people could call it that, thats probably because it has truth to it. It's not really meant as an insult, just that it looks like it could have been a 'what if' DLC for an uncharted game and that going from a third person shooter to another third person shooter is less a stretch then it would be tackling a different genre.

Trump has done so much damage to our youth.

You said Bruce Straley called it an Uncharted reskin.

Then you quote Bruce Straley saying "People could say..."

Stop. Be decent.

Anyone with basic reading comprehension skills can see he is talking about what other people could say, rather than saying it himself. He is saying the opposite. "Even though" should be your first clue -- that's a setup for a counter. "People could say" should be your second clue -- he's talking about a hypothetical criticism from other people, not what he himself believes. He believes the opposite.

I can't believe I'm taking the time to explain this.

Here's the full quote:

"Even though people could say, ‘Oh, it’s just Uncharted reskinned.’ It’s got the same paradigm as far as cutscenes and gameplay, and it’s third-person, but other than that, trying to figure out a game and a world and a story and making it all cohesive, and the stress, especially moving from something: At Naughty Dog, we had this tonally action-adventure, high action, tropey, rooted in pulp action movies from the ‘40s, which is Uncharted. And then we’re moving into something super grounded, and realistic, and gritty, and gore, and all this kind of stuff. And trying to direct a team where they’re looking at us sideways and going, ‘What the hell are you guys thinking? You’re ruining the company.’ So that then became the most stressful project. As rewarding as it was, to finish and work on, and as a designer philosophically to try some things that I thought I had been evolving since Uncharted 2 forward. That was rewarding, but also really stressful."

I can't believe you're getting so defensive at a harmless descriptor. Besides which he acknowledges and lists the similarities. And it used the same engine and animations.

Setting and story? Infinite warfare was set in space and had laser guns and robots and WW2 was set in WW2. Guess what I'll call that a change of venue too. Red Dead Redemption. That's just GTA: Wild West. Spades a spade.

PS Scorpion is a pallette swap of Sub Zero.

You know that entire post was just a complete waste of time, right? 10/10 for effort though.

Wtf? Tlou is nothing like uncharted.

Why would I be feeling defensive? You're the one who's FOS. I'm just pointing it out. Then you back up your claims with a link that says the opposite of what you claim. You've done the same before. It's sort of pathetic.

Microsoft at E3!!
I love how your post has every rating possible. lol

But anyway, yes, let's return to the topic, MS at E3.

Microsoft's E3 showing is kind of like my Raiders this season. Will they bounce back and surprise people or will they be non competitive again?

I am genuinely excited to see what Microsoft can bring to the table.
How are they going to go forward when it comes to exclusives?

E3 is going to be a watershed moment for them and I really do hope it is going to be positive. I mean, how can they not look at the competition and at least be inspired to start putting out quality stuff like that.

I'm rooting for you Microsoft! You have the hardware now get it DONE. :bang:

I think Microsoft might be in a little better shape. Lol

If Microsoft listens to its fans and starts spending its Godlike resources to satiate the hunger Xbox folk like myself have for them to blister our screens with top quality new SP IPs and resurrected beloved IPs from the past, MS is better than good.

They DO NOT need SO games. That will never make the money they are looking for. That is why they partner with people behind Tomb Raider for this needs.

I am not going to have less options from a first party to have these 1 time trip for $60 For a game.

There's a basic distinction that often gets forgotten, and I'm not sure why.

There is a big difference between 1) a great SP gaming experience and 2) a short (8-12 hr), linear, SP-only game. The latter are a dying breed at the level of AAA gaming. No one needs to fret about MS putting money into that sort of project. Even Sony doesn't do that anymore. MS surely won't.

But "SP gaming" does not equal "brief, linear, SP-only game." SP games come in all different shapes and sizes. SP does not mean SP only. SP games often have MP attached. SP games are often open world, not linear. SP games can have extended lengths (30+ hrs, hell 200+ hours). They can have large DLC packages. They can have choice & consequence that boosts replay value. There are lots of options, and you can mix and match.

Advocating for great SP gaming experiences does not mean advocating for brief, linear, SP-only games.

I would if you could get more than 10 to 15 hours of enjoyment ala God of War.

Didn't you just say you are excited to play Jade Empire again

And you liked Ryse. So I don't get it.

We need to make a distinction that often gets forgotten, and I'm not sure why. There is a big difference between 1) a great SP gaming experience and 2) a short, linear, SP-only game. The latter are a dying breed (except at the indie or low-budget level). No one needs to fret about MS putting money into that sort of project. Even Sony doesn't do that (anymore).

But a great SP gaming experience can come in all kinds of different forms, not just that one. It can be open world; it can be combined with multiplayer; it can have large DLC packages that extend its life; it can have an extended campaign (e.g., 25-30 hours); it can have lots of choice & consequence and so lots of potential replay value. Lots of options.

So, great SP gaming ≠ SP-only, linear, and brief.

To do that, I think they need to start splitting up their games more.. instead of trying to make a release, SP + MP. One part is always going to get more love or be hampered in some way by the other.

IMO, I'd like to see Gears and Halo just have their own separate and isolated MP suite releases.

That way when it comes time to do a new single player game they don't have to throw the baby out with the bathwater, it can be it's own thing, MP wouldn't need to start from scratch and change all the things people liked about the previous release for the sake of it being a new release. Then the single player can get the attention it needs and won't have a team split up trying to juxtapose how things will work from the single player to the multiplayer.. you could even have gameplay take a giant leap in another direction (ala God of War) and it wouldn't ruin the MP because it'd be it's own thing.

They continue to try to do both at the same time and I think eventually they're going to realize it doesn't work well with the style of games they do, people are expecting more on both ends (they want high quality single player with some girth to it and they want their well supported MP with long legs). One of the elements is always going to feel "tacked on".

With the resources Microsoft has, they in are in a much better position than most, to do exemplary jobs in both the immersive, high quality SPs as well as the addictive tight gameplay and meaty content on the MP front. I'm an Xbox fan, but, there's no real excuse why MS shouldn't pursue both. Hopefully Microsoft is beyond realization and now actively racing towards this practice. We will see now, won't we?
