NeoGaf on Life Support, and all Mods quit!

good to see they dropped the majority of the older mods.

looks to be only one returning as far as I can tell. a few genuinely interesting picks like Shinobi, Matt, Nibel, Durante, BronsonLee and I think Slayven used to go by BruceLeeroy I believe.

Skimming GAF, it's like a whole new board. And skimming the new Resetera, it seems pretty tame too.

So where's all the meatheads that were on GAF? Hiding in the shadows? Playing it cool? Shifted to IGN or Gamespot?

It's like a big chunk of annoying gamers just disappeared.

Bulls***! Theyre coming back. Gonna turn that site back into the s*** hole it was before the allegations.

Aside from a few threads purposely left open to talk about Malka's sexual assault issue, and ignoring the remaining "ban me" threads, the normal threads seem pretty low key.

But just a matter of time before it returns to where it was before.

Desperate for clicks, they already re-opened the OT section after it was down for a day. Gotta get those OT clicks.

great zhuge the guy who blocked me on twitter for having the scorpio symbol in my name. so another biased site like gaf?
He probably blocked you after someone else reported you. It wasn't the mods that were the issue, it was that Xbox fans had a s***load of reports coming in each time they said something remotely biased.

Seeing the amount of reports, it was really difficult for any MOD to make an unbiased decision. You see the same problem on N4G were basically very mild pro Nintendo and Xbox opinions get tagged as "inappropriate" but downright threatening posts towards say Phil Spencer get allowed.

It's not that a mod allows it, it is that the latter didn't get reported, while the former was reported over.. and over... and over.. and over...

Also keep in mind SDF is a thing, there are actually people that silly and sick in the PS community. SDF started out as a joke, but later became an actual fanboy thing :(. PS fanboys can be far more rabid than the other two groups of fanboys. Not to say Xbox fanboys can't be idiots, I mean look at Mister X Media :p. It's just there are SO MANY MORE of those idiots in the Sony community.

So before you go and blame the MOD, keep in mind: You probably got reported ALOT and you know how fanboys tend to bend and stretch things to get what they want. From System Specs (secret sauce) to simple twitter posts about dinner some CEO had.

That said if he blocked you on twitter: That is idiotic. As if you log out you can still see all a person posts :).

I always find it funny when politicians block people. Seems asinine as well, "ooh make a new account, Hello Donald I'm back!". Twitter in that sense is just a place for : HasBeenActors, Politicians and 50 year olds to argue in 140 characters or less :D.

I will be joining Resetera one day. I will still check GAF every now and then but Resetera has all the best GAF posters over there. Shinobi is back, Zhuge is awesome and very level headed. Kagari was one of the best mods for GAF before it went to crap and I think she left because I didn't see her around for ages. All the best posters in Sony first party's thread has moved over as has SalesGAF. Plus Nibel is also a admin too. They have a bunch of level headed admin and moderators over there so I can't see things escalating too much.

BruceLeeRoy was full of s***. He was the one claiming the PS4 only had a 500mb OS and 7.5GB available for games.

ZhugeEx isnt trustworthy.

I trust Shinobi. And Matt, but only if Matt explains who he is and where he works.

Kagari was one of the best mods for GAF before it went to crap and I think she left because I didn't see her around for ages.

Kagari lied about the length of Rise of the Tomb Raiders timed exclusivity.

I can't find where to register at ResetEra.

It is gone. Supposedly they are having "technical problems" but it feels like the same elitist BS as NG.

All I'll say is check out their FAQ. Sounds a lot like the same over-modded BS.

One of their rules for new people is this:

III. Junior status

After your account is approved, you'll begin as a Junior Member. This is your chance to prove your worth to the community and also the most critical period for the future of your account. If you break a rule as a junior member, you may be permanently banned which means you can no longer actively participate in discussions.

In order to move from being a Junior Member to a full Member, two conditions must be met: (1) 120 days must have passed since your account was approved and (2) you must have made at least 200 posts. Once these two conditions are met, your account will automatically be upgraded to Member status.

But then later on

No drive-by posting: do not come into a thread, write something purposefully provocative, and bail out. We'd suggest either making a solid argument or ignoring a thread altogether if you have nothing to contribute.

Then this...

No console wars: everybody has their platforms and genres of preference and it's completely fine if somebody doesn't share a similar taste as you. Don't be an annoying megaphone for multi-billion dollar corporations that care about you buying their products first and foremost. Don't be bitter about multi-platform announcements. Don't be bitter if a system you like sells less than the system you don't like.

Now, I'm probably bitter because they never will let me in their little club, but just read their actual rules and make up your own mind.

I mean, this is video games, right? I never get why people want to much damn drama around a hobby most of us use to get away from the tedium of the everyday.

But who would want drive by posting? They are the worst.

I agree, but then why do new members need to make 200 posts in 120 days to become a member?

Why say you don't want sh**posts but then force people to do it anyway?

Maybe I've just got an ax to grind, but I've never, ever had to jump through hoops to join an online community except for these two. I mean, we're talking about video games here, right???

I was a junior member for 14 years at GAF because I didn't post. I read and observed.

But why would that mean you have to s*** post?

The policy is just weird and contradictory to me. 1-2 posts per day is actually a lot for someone on a brand new place. I'd rather sit back and lurk for awhile as many do. Lurking, sitting back and getting a feel for a new place is usually the best... they seem to want that but don't want that?

Don't worry about your post count! Oh but make sure your post count is X or else...

I just have an ax to grind... I don't "try out". I feel I'm qualified to post about video games because I play video games and can type effectively and not troll. If the requirements are higher than that, I'll pass.

Yeah sod that. Sounds very snotty by those rules

Gotta hand it to the owners for a good launch. The real test will be in 6 months to see how many active users they will have. I just cant see Gaf really recovering from this.

That's good. You seem to know the players better than I do. I know and like Shinobi, but I'm not familiar with the others. GAF is so huge, most of the time I'm just reading the posts but not trying to correlate them to avatars, since there are too many to keep track of.

Anyhow, I'll be over there, too, eventually. I don't think my initial registration made it through.

Just to clarify. You don't need to make 200 posts in 120 days. You need to make 200 posts, and at least 120 days need to have passed. That is actually a deterrent to sh*t-posting.

The argument (not one that I'm making, but they would) is that this is part of what made GAF so huge and successful. I can see the logic there. It's a psychological principle that if you make people pass some kind of test to gain admittance or pay a fee, they feel better about being a member -- they value it more -- than if you just let them in willy nilly, without any barriers to entry.

It also contributed to the elitism of GAF, though. Once you're a full member, you look down on the "juniors." I know I do. :p

It reads completely like a paid piece. Boasts about how large the community is already, who's there, points out that it's an LLC now and it should be "different."

Oh, so you're just speculating. I thought you were stating a fact.

Reads pretty normal to me. Schreier seems to be one of the better journalists around. He's done some great post-mortem pieces. I think his GAF piece (in the works still, I guess) will be interesting reading.

25 years in advertising, they're easy to spot.

As far as a "post-mortum" piece goes, not sure what more can be said? Guy who owns site ends up possibly being slimy and hypocritical, people get all dramatic, and jumped to another forum. It's what happened at TXB when Shockwave was let go. Something happened, people got all dramatic, and they jumped to another forum.

With all due respect to your years in advertising, I think you're off-base on this one. I don't think Resetera paid off Jason Schreier so they could get a favorable write-up. That would destroy Jason's career, and it's not consistent with the type of journalism he's done. Just doesn't fit. He wouldn't risk his reputation to write a paid puff piece, nor would Resetera want to start off with a scandal.

Besides, positive impressions of Resetera are easy to find. Lots of people are impressed/pleased. He's just saying what a lot of people think.

As for the post-mortem, I'd like to hear all the behind-the-scenes dirt. Oh, the drama! lol

It'll probably be the same, tired boy-meets girl take on "If at first you don't succeed, just whip out the dick and follow her into the shower."

Joining new forums sounds like too much work.

Hell even on actual jobs they only have a 90 day probation period.

Not saying "paid off" in a negative way like "OMG PAID SHILL." I'm quite certain there was influence from the other website's camp to put something out there on a major website like Kotaku who's parent, Gawker, is a s*** hole, and also has a daughter site, Jezebel, which is the haven for SJW assary.

I really dislike drama and that's why I don't care too much about this story and am only reading it in passing by reading what you guys post in here.

I don't know there is more coming from him on GAF. He worked with the author of the previous article.
