Official Thread New PS4 Owners Thread

the uncharted bundle has the newer version of the PS4
No longer has the glossy hard drive cover
No longer has the touch sensitive buttons for power/eject
and what is not seen, revised motherboard.

Got the PS4. Like the all matte finish of the new model but I think I would have preferred touch sensitive buttons due to the buttons being so small.

Nice, i didn't know the new models were all matte. I can't stand the glossy finish on consoles. It looks cool but if you touch it then it's game over. I'd rather have matte. Out of sight, out of mind.

Had an XB1 since day one as most my gaming friends went that way too, really starting to think about trading in my XB1 for a PS4. I look to the owners to help me with this!

1. Is it worth giving up your friends online for it? (I can get new friends for online play I guess)?
2. is it in fact the better console?......I have the Division and the pop in drives me nuts, is it improved on the PS4 and likewise with other cross platform games do they run better on the PS4?
3. Is giving up Halo/GOW 4 worth it?
4. Controllers, which is the preferred and will I struggle to adapt to the PS4 pad, this is a bit of a worry as I am keen on the XB1 pad but I haven't played the PS4 yet!
5. Best games you've played on the PS4?

I know some will say each to their own, go with the console which suits your game tastes etc etc, I'm just looking for a general feeling around this?

Thanks

I would say yes to your questions I really like the console.
I don't know what 2 tell you about the friend part...most of my 360 friends are on ps4 now. You could send users here friend requests.
I will suggest waiting and trading up for the newer model that could be released anywhere from now till E3.

Plus you can buy your Xbox exclusives on Windows 10.

I can't accurately answer all your questions as my PS4 is used purely for Singer player games but I'll do my best.

1. The large majority of my friends and family are on Xbox live, so I wouldn't give that up.
2. If you are sensitive to resolutions and the like, the PS4 is the way to go. If you can't tell the difference between 900p and 1080p or 30fps vs 60 fps, then either console from my experience is fine.
3. That's more of a personal thing. If it makes you feel any better there are rumors that GOW 4 might come to the PC.
4. PS4 controller isn't all that bad, in fact its the best PlayStation controller IMO. However, I think MS has perfected the controller with the 360 and subsequent X1 controller. The X1 controller feels like a natural extension of my hands whereas the Dualshock 4 feels like a controller in my hands.
5. The last of Us was very well done and surprisingly I really enjoyed The Order.

At the end of the day I like the consoles but I use them to fulfill different gaming needs. PS4 for more JRPGs, niche games and Sony exclusives. Whereas the X1 is my multiplayer, sports and Microsoft exclusive console.

1. I would not give up friends for the miniscual resolution difference. There is pop in in Division for PS4 including first party games. It's the nature of these consoles.

2. The PS4 is smaller and has a better form factor. But with that small size it gets loud with the fan during movies and games. You also will be short a USB port, no IR, no HDMI in, and no external HDD support for game installs. Limited to 2TB on the PS4.

3. Never give up games if you enjoy them. Try to own both if you can.

4. The Xbox controller is the more popular controller with better quality and has better battery life. The battery life on the DS4 is really bad.

5. The best games I have played on the PS4 are The Order, DriveClub, Until Dawn and Bloodborne.

Both systems are solid buys but IMO you are better off with the Xbox One if you can only have one.

Thanks for all the reply's guys, that's helped a lot, I think I'll start a saving fund up for the PS4 as opposed to selling up, makes too much sense to keep my XB1 than selling it!

That's probably for the best. That way you don't miss out gaming with your friends on the X1 but don't miss out on some of the great games on the PS4.

I am thrilled to be able to switch back and forth as I choose and i do a lot of that so I know I wouldnt be happy with just one. It also gives you an objective look at all the dissension between the 2 consoles to see clearly who is simply blowing smoke and who you can trust for multillatform purchases.

Always keep your consoles if you can. You never know if you'll come across that one game you want to play that you'll regret trading in your console. For me, it's really a tie this gen. Both consoles are awesome. Last gen was the same but the 360 was definitely the better multiplayer machine and the PS3 was my go to single player machine. This gen you can't go wrong with either, no matter what your focus is.

The PS4 is probably the best all around console, since it has an improved controller and better multiplats but you have to ask yourself what that really means to you as a gamer. The Xbox One is more than fine at running multiplats and has had the better exclusives overall so far this gen in my opinion. I'd say the biggest factors for me are controller preference, friends list, and exclusives. Which is a clean sweep for the X1 for me.

So, I've been considering getting a PS4. I've never owned any PS, so what do I need to know? What bundle should I get? I haven't played BO3 and that seems to be the cheap bundle at Best Buy but I am pretty burnt out on it.

What else do I need? PS plus or whatever I assume. What is a good headset? Anything else I need? Tissues to wipe my Xbox fanboy tears? :)

Oh and you can stream music from a USB stick like on 360? Also if I have a Spotify account I can use that? I pay for Spotify already (awesome).

What game should a PS noob try?

I'd wait for E3 if I were you. Also consider waiting for announcement of the new, modestly upgraded PS4 (Neo). You might want to read Plainview's thread, too.

Games are so individualized, who knows. I'm really enjoying Ratchet & Clank, but you might not. Hard to say. You should know the catalog pretty well before you buy, so you know what makes the purchase worth it to you. Uncharted is an obvious one. Everything else boils down to individual choice, though, so it's hard to say.

Yeah, you can use Spotify. I'm not sure about the USB stick.

Yeah I'll probably wait a bit and see how things flush out. No Man's Sky has me intrigued though. I've really got to kill some games in my backlog before I add anything though.

Plainview's thread has been great.

Strangely enough the music thing really angers me. 360 had that as a great feature, now on x1? Nothing but snapping (I don't want a music app snapped but just running in the background).

So many games are better with my own music. How am I supposed to hot lap in Forza without good music? (not that PS has that). Same with sports games. NHL, Fifa, Golf, all fun but I'll turn off the presentation and just get my own music.

When you do get your PS4, PS plus is a must.

Most of my PS4 library is free games. Some great, some not as much. But Sony does a good job of putting some of the best indies on their PS+ promotion.

I let my PSN+ sub lapse, as I haven't had any multiplayer games to play on it. I will sign back up with UC4 because I want to play the multiplayer portion of it.

A few more questions (hard to rely on internet info - so many fanboys spreading mis-information)

The controller doesn't take batteries? It has to be charged with a cable? I assume you can charge and play (my cable from my X1 elite controller is nice). Not a huge deal but easier to just swap batteries in and out.

Also, you can just plug regular headphones into the controller and get sound? It just has a regular headphone jack on it?

Gamestop has a bundle with Destiny and BO3 which is pretty much exactly what I want.

Yeah built in batteries. Any android type charge cable will work as will your X1 charge cable.

The headphone jack is a nice feature. Regular jack. But listening to movies through the controller while everyone is asleep is a nice convenience.

Thanks, the headphone thing is awesome. I'm a bit of an audiophile and have some pretty good headphones. I rarely chat anyway so don't really need the mic. Most games don't really need it anyway.

I have tons of android charging cables. I am really new to PS totally so I just assumed they took batteries :)

With No Man's Sky looking too good to pass up, I might be buying very soon. Hopefully some scrub doesn't have my name on PS.

fyi....great thing about the ps4 is ANY usb headset works

Well I took the plunge and got the Black Ops console with Destiny. Of course thanks to massive patches I won't actually be playing anything for some time :)

I'm actually hoping one of my old Astro headsets works with PS4 if I can find the cable.

Is there anything I need to do to keep downloads going all night? The Destiny patches are going to take an eternity.

Welcome to the club.

Just put it in "Rest" mode. It'll continue to download. I'd make sure I don't have it auto-set to turn off after 4 hours or something, if you expect the DLs to take all night.

Yeah you mean all those settings I ignored at startup? Yeah! :tounge: Actually things are going better now. Blops3 worked. Destiny is just huge, even with all the expansions.

One other question on space - I know I can replace the HD. Is there a difference in space if you buy a game on disc vs download? I know on X1 you buy the disc and it all installs anyway and takes up the same space.

Awesome. Have fun man. I think you'll really like the system.

I love the themes. Just put on a Destiny theme and not only background images but music too. Very cool.

Another question (I google this stuff but some of it must be dated or just plain wrong). I got Spotify to work (awesome)! I got mp3s to play just by browsing to the folder in media player, but can I create or play playlists? Not a big deal as I'll probably use Spotify mostly.

Anyway, is there anywhere that lists the most played games on PS? I'm just looking to see which MP games have the biggest players. I'm sure Destiny and COD are huge as they are on X1, but I'd like to see what else.

I also totally forgot about Planetside 2 on PS. I loved the first one on PC.
