This game is one of the most ambitious ive ever seen. It could define the early days of next gen. I hope its as good as it looks.

I can't imagine a game like this in 10 years with a huge AAA behind it. Maybe the industry will learn something from what these guys are doing, either way I think this game's ambition and scale are revolutionary, even its from a conceptual standpoint. The idea of having an entire universe to transverse is insane.

People are way too high on this game. It's got an interesting concept and nice art direction. An interesting concept and nice art direction a game does not make.

I also don't see the appeal of this game. Without a story or levels, it sounds like an aimless sandbox game where you just fly from planet to planet looking at animals and stuff. A game needs to have a story for me, otherwise there's no end goal or anything compelling to keep my interest.

It’s coming to PC after ps4. The game looks interesting, will be getting it on PC.

There will be stuff to do, you just don't have to do them.. :)
Stuff will be generated on your starting planet.. You won't be able to travel to a different solar system at once, you need to buy a better space-ship than the one you start with - you don't have to, but then you are stuck within your own small part of space. :-/
If some resource is far underwater, you might have to upgrade your space-suit/enviromental suit in order to get to it, or you can choose to ignore it.

Just like real life, you set your own longerm goals, and just like reallife you can loose all your stuff. :)
If two AI-factions are fighting, and you want to align yourself with a AI faction against another one, you can do that, if you want to stay out of the fight you might be able to do that.
The developers havn't scripted in that 'these guys' will be the good guys, and 'those other guys' will be the bad guys..
From what I hear.. :)

The appeal is in the exploration and discovery. If you need a strong storyline, yeah, this wouldn't appeal to you. I love story-driven games myself, but I also love exploration and discovery. To me, that's the appeal of the game -- exploring a huge universe, seeing what's around the next bend.

That's the main question I have about the game, too -- how long will the exploration/discovery element hold up? I guess there's no way to know in advance.

I think No Mans Sky looks awesome. It's definitely one of the better indie games so far. I'm kinda surprised it's PS4 only at this point.

They want and plan to bring it to PC, too, but that'll probably come after the PS4 version is finished. It's a small team and a big project, so they can't pull off simultaneous release. I'm assuming it'll come to X1 eventually, too, as long as MS can relax about that parity clause.

I heard the team was 7 guys, btw, not 4 as I thought.

What happened to that X1 clause about releasing at same time or not at all? Or did MS retract that?

Yeah, that's what I meant by "as long as MS can relax about the parity clause," although "parity clause" might not be the right name for it. Afaik, it's still in place, although they make exceptions. Maybe they'll make an exception here. I think they should.

I think this is it. A nice overview.

The first half is about the studio's history. The NMS stuff starts at about 4:00.

I didn't realize that the purpose, aside from exploration, was to reach the center of the galaxy.

I'll watch it on my lunch break.

Yeah, the "must watch," "incredible" adjectives were a bit overdone. It's a nice video, but not much more. I like listening to that guy talk. When he talked about the need to upgrade your ship/weapons/suit, to cooperate with others, and to be clever in order to reach the center of the galaxy, that was new info to me.

Has it been announced for the X1? Have they said anything about it? If it's coming to X1, I can move the thread to the MP forum.

It has not been announced for it. They just said they only have time for the PS4 version right now. I would keep it in this forum.

No. It should say here. It's only ps4 for now. No word at all on the x1 yet

Yup. That is what I read. Though as MS stated, now with the DX12, the porting to X1 is almost the press of a button so maybe they can get them out near the same time.

Keep in mind, Hello Games only has 4 people though, they'll try their best all the same.

If it doesn't make it to the X1, I will get it on PS4. No way can I NOT check this game out. The art direction is cool beans.

This is a huge win for Sony no matter how you look at it. Being the only announced/lead platform for one of the potentially most significant titles announced this gen is not only a smooth business move, but a showcase of Sony's true commitment to not only Indie games, but to new and innovative ideas.
