It looks like Nintendo are developing a new next gen console.

Are you still interested in Nintendo consoles?

Releasing a new console won't fix their current problems, unless Nintendo has becoming an entirely different company. And that will never happen.

I'll always be interested in Nintendo, til I die. Just got Captain Toad for my nephew/me for his birthday. Game is amazing. Zelda is always my most anticipated game ever. Although Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword are 2 of my least favorites, they're still amazing. Okay I'm rambling...

They are also releasing a cross-platform subscription service. Not sure what generations it will encompass, but you will be able to play Nintendo games on smart phones, tablets and pcs. Maybe even other consoles which would be freaking awesome!

At the same time they will still have dedicated Nintendo branded hardware.

This is is pretty damn huge imo. It's also the direction Microsoft is going to head imo also as Xbox becomes a broad service/brand instead of just one piece of dedicated hardware. I still expect for there to be dedicated branded xbox hardware of course.

This is actually a multiplatform/device thing, no?

I'm still confused.

Nintendo NX is going to be new hardware.

Whatever Nintendo and DeNA's thing is is the multiplatform subscription service.

Hard to know what to think. "We hope to share more about this next year." Ok. See you next year, I guess.

I remember when dumb arses said Nintendo was done during the GameCube days, then they released the wii lol.

Yeah, Nintendo always seems to surprise ... or mystify.

Well that announcement makes the Wii U's looks rather good which is saying something.

Maybe we'll see something at E3...? I can't imagine this thing would release any time soon. Maybe it's VR/AR? At the very least maybe it'll cause a Wii U price drop soon. I'm definitely getting one before the holiday :)

If it's a new home console, wouldn't that mean that they are cutting the Wii U's lifecycle short? I mean, if they announce it in 2016, presumably they'd release it in holiday 2017. That would mean the Wii U would be a lame duck in 2016, then dead/dying in 2017. I guess 5 years isn't that short (Wii U launched in 2012, so the lifecycle would be 2012 to 2017), but it's shorter than cycles have been lately.

Of course, we don't know that it's a home console. With Nintendo, it could be anything.

Nintendo console cycles are always 5-6 years.

Ah, okay, I didn't know that. Well, that's good. It'll give us a new console to look forward to. It will be a long time before we see a new Xbox or Playstation. We need something to fill the gap.

I just want something that has a great name and is decent enough for the AAA developers to support.

Not that I would ever get anything but Nintendo games for it, but whatever helps sell more consoles is good for the rare Nintendo games that include online multiplayer.
