Rise of the Tomb Raider announced for PC (Early 2016) and PS4 (Holiday 2016)

We all saw it coming. Well, those of us not wearing green goggles anyway. Crystal Dynamics wasn't going to stay away from the PS4's user base for long. It would have taken a lot of money for Microsoft to lock a game like Rise of the Tomb Raider up.

Not sure if I understand. They have to somehow communicate the deal to people/potential buyers or else the deal would be worthless. "Holiday 2015 exclusive" sounds like only a few months -- especially when other Xbox games get "exclusive" and/or "only on xbox" labels.

The last Tomb Raider release was multiplatform so MS just saying "The Rise of The Tomb Raider... coming to Xbox" would have simply made people think that it was coming to the PS4 at the same time too (and that MS simply had a marketing deal).

I am saying even some people here didn't believe it was timed. Someone more casual is less likely to know more than that its exclusive. They can easily put only on xbox in an ad.

"Console exclusive for one full year" will help Holiday Xbox sales far more than simply "Holiday 2015 exclusive".

Not sure why MS didn't just say the former at last year's Gamescom. Would have been far more honest, less confusing, and still attention grabbing.

You're right that "exclusive for a year" sounds better than "exclusive for the holiday." I was thinking, though, that a lot of people did not know whether it was coming to PS4, and now that it's clarified, it takes away some of the power. Despite the chorus of "everyone knew it all along," everyone did not know it all along; there really was an uncertainty there -- about whether and when it was coming, and I suspect that uncertainty helped persuade people to buy an Xbox, in order to KNOW that they will get to play TR, rather than wait in uncertainty. Who knows for sure, though. I'm just speculating.

Nope. You should wait a year to play a minimally better looking version, hypothetically, rather than playing a game you want to play this holiday.

Well Val will be happy to know that I'm not against double dipping. Especially for amazing visual advancements.

I probably won't bother if it's just a few frames though.

Yea. It's really strange for someone to buy a game their interested in the day of the release. What kind of sense would that make.??????

Especially when I could get some extra blades of grass or something next year. I need to rethink this.

Definitely good points but at the same time, this news has pushed some to get an Xbox One this Fall due to them not being able to wait (since they originally thought the PS4 version would release in February or March). It works both ways though we don't know the full numbers when it comes to the change in casual gamers being swayed and core gamers being swayed (and never will).

A few frames difference wasn't what the difference was before and I highly doubt this will change. Then we have the possibility of extra content and the rumored lower price.

Multi console owner buying Day 1 on X1. Not waiting a year, hell I wouldn't wait a month. By the time it comes out on PS4 a multiconsole owner that waited would have to choose between the $60 PS4 version or the by-then-reduced $20 X1 version, lololol.

If it's 30 fps vs 60 that will be great for Sony fans. But not enough for me to rebuy or wait a year.

Plus these games don't seem to have high replay value. I'll buy it, beat and have fun . Then move on.

30fps version with less content and a higher price?

No thx

If the current TR game on ps4 and xbo are a indication then it will be a significant difference.

The game released before improvements were made to the Xbox One for games that don't use kinect (SDK).

Not saying that it's impossible for the "gap" to be the same -- simply saying that basing it on an early game is a bit faulty.

Exactly it doesn't have a high replay value so just wait for the superior version/s

I'm confident enough to say the Xbox One version will either be 1080p/30fps or 900p/30fps vs 60fps and possibly 1080p on ps4 plus dlc and a lower price tag.

If anything we'll see a resolution difference instead of a frame rate difference.

But the game has apparently been already confirmed to be 1080p on Xbox One so its looking like both the PS4 and Xbox One versions will be 1080p/30 FPS. I don't blame people for wanting to play an appealing game shortly after it releases instead of waiting one year for "what ifs".

Uhg, the drama! Why does this matter more than how good the actual game is. I honestly hate the state of the gaming community.

To think the Xbox One version will actually look that different on screen is pretty silly. If anyone has both consoles already, they will not wait. Some may even buy an Xbox One to play this early. You're dreaming to think that the differences will be so significant to most people, like you obviously hope to happen. These are actual people who play games, now. Not pretenders, such as yourself.

6 months I could have seen but 2 or 3 months is pretty silly. I don't think this news is very meaningful in terms of sales but its a hard to sell to say its going to lead to bigger X1 sales.

I'm a multi owner as well. Got the last tomb raider game on ps4. But sure as hell not waiting a year for this . Will be getting this day on Xbox .

Why is thinking that silly? When the current TR shows major differences..LOL?
I have both consoles and would rather wait for the better performing/possibly better looking version that will likely be cheaper and offer extra content.
But news flash I am not a big fan of the series so I might skip it altogether.
There is that pretender crap from you again. Not preferring inferior versions of games=pretender or is it not preferring Xbox?

I don't think waiting is silly if that's what you want to do. I just don't think most with both consoles really care to wait if they're interested in the game.
