I thought it was time to open a thread just dedicated to Sony's E3 conference.

These are my thoughts on their conference.

Playstation in the driving seat:

So I firmly expect this press conference to illustrate that Playstation 4 is the leading the console sales race and despite this I do not expect Sony to be to smug about it, they will try and convey they are humble.

VR: Playstation VR is finally coming out this year and I expect Sony to show some new titles from 1st party and 2nd party studios. I think they will heavily push that GT Sport is built with VR in mind. I also think Sony London will have another title to announce for VR. We might even see North West’s new game as well as From Software’s new VR title. I still do not expect them to spend a massive chunk of time on this because VR is very hard to show on stage and in trailer format. I also expect release dates for stuff like rigs.

3rd Party: Well one thing is for definitely we are going to be seeing more of Call of Duty: Infinite Warefare and Sony and Activision’s continued burgeoning relationship. But I do not expect this to the centre piece of the 3rd party content. I think we will see Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts 3 showcased with impressive trailers. Watch Dogs 2 will be there too as the first one was marketed with PS4 and it helped Sony moves PS4 and Ubisoft shift a considerable amount of copies, especially in Europe. This is a bold prediction but I expect Rockstar’s next game to be announced at Sony’s conference just like they announced the next gen version of GTA V. Rockstar and Sony have always had a good relationship and I expect this to be centre piece of the third party support. Also we will see a trailer for new Destiny DLC.

2nd party: Despite Final Fantasy XV’s imminent release I think another trailer for Final Fantasy 7 remake will show up but that will be the last of it till PSX. I think Sony is patently aware of Persona 5’s growing influence in the JPRG market and will showcase a trailer with a release date for December in North America; with no release date in sight for Europe sadly. I would also be surprised if we do not see some sort of update on Shenmue and Sony thanking them for their on-going support. The big talking point of second party will be Crash Bandicoot coming back and I think it will be someone like Sanzaru games doing it. The I.P will remain as Activision’s but a deal was worked as Activision realized only Playstation games are nostalgic and crave Crash back.

1st party: SIE’s studios are like a vehicle in my mind. The engine takes a while to get warmed up but when that engine is purring and humming along there is not many in the business who matches the quality, breadth of content and variety of games. This is year when SIE America comes to the forefront and showcases what they have been working on but despite that I still expect Horizon Zero Dawn to be front and center. It is clear Sony view the I.P in high regard just from the massive advertisement already plastered on a building in downtown LA and the talk of creating merchandise from the game. Horizon should get a 10 minute demo and I expect it to wow people as there is so much we have yet to see; Guerrilla are keeping a lot of stuff close to their chest. This and The Last Guardian will get a release date, but I think TLG will only merit a trailer this time. I also expect a short trailer for Gravity Rush 2. The 3 new reveals will be a bombastic trailer for God of War 4, Sony Bend’s much rumoured open world horror game and Sucker Punch’s Spiderman game. Sony Bend’s game will have a similar reveal to Horizon as that worked so well, a premise trailer and then into gameplay. SP’s trailer for Spiderman will be a teaser with a slither of gameplay of swinging through downtown New York.

Please share your thoughts too!

I'm no good at predictions. I'd get at least half wrong. I do know what I hope to see, though:

- Persona 5, with a Western release date
- More Horizon footage
- The Last Guardian release date
- What Became of Edith Finch
- ABZU
- Sucker Punch Spiderman
- Crash Bandicoot reboot
- Nier
- Detroit
- WiLD
- Tomb Raider
- PS Neo info

Rumor was this was delayed to make it a Neo launch title...hmmm. The other rumor was the footage to be shown at E3 will be Neo footage, but they won't make a distinction about whether it is Neo or PS4.

The delay of Zero Dawn takes another bingo square off that image.

Out of those, I am surprised by 2 of them. Knack 2 (serious), and ND announcing a game already?? could be TLOU 2?

I mean its a prediction. I don't really think that is a spoiler. Is spoiling E3 even a thing?

Thread title says use spoiler tags. I think that is weird, but I will follow the rules.

Those are some interesting predictions. I'd be interested in the NMS, TR, and ND ones. Heck, I might even be interested in Knack 2 -- if they did a good job of it.

These spoiler tags are annoying. Do you really think they're necessary, boss? Plainview. I mean, it's just speculation. Nothing's actually happened.

The spoiler is that there are no spoilers, so we need tags on everything. We're going to the Inception snow base level of spoiler tags.

For real. I don't know how it's possible to spoil E3 for anyone who's a gamer and follows the industry like we do. It would be like watching wrestling and having no idea what's going to happen after being a fan for 20+ years.

Anyway, glad the FFXII remaster was confirmed, i can't wait for that. Hopefully they show off The Last Guardian and actually have a release date before they start talking about the Neo, if they do. Looking forward to Horizon as well.

You left off the rest, though: "if they do a good job of it." I liked Ratchet and Clank, so I'm open for games that are similar. Knack is like a poor man's Ratchet and Clank ... or maybe a homeless alcoholic's Ratchet and Clank. I'm hoping that the first one was a dud because they rushed it, and they've gotten enough feedback to understand where they stumbled, so the next game will be better. Who knows. Not on the top of my most anticipated list, but I don't hate the idea automatically. I'm keeping an open mind.

Apparently Insomniac are doing this PS4 exclusive spiderman game leaving us to Sucker Punch making a new I.P.

Looking forward to God of War, TLOU 2, and gameplay impressions of Horizon. The trailer looked good but didn't show much new stuff in the way of gameplay. The story sounds pretty cool though.

Someone posted this on IGN today, so I'm also curious to see how much of whatever Sony shows comes to fruition in the next year. At their conference last year, most of what they showed has yet to see the light of day:

Sony opened with The Last Guardian and Zero Dawn: Horizons which neither have not released yet, but both have a standard release date of 2016.
These were followed up with Street Fighter V which released on time.
This was followed up by No Man's Sky which has since been delayed with an expected release later this year.
Following NMS was Dreams which does not currently have a release date.
Afterwards they showed World of Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy 7 Remake, neither of which currently have a release date.
This was followed by Devolver Digital, who showed off 4 games expected to release in 2016 but that have not currently: Ronin, Eitr, Mother Russia Bleeds, and Crossing Souls.
Following those was the announcement of Shenmue 3 kickstarter, which does not currently have a release date but did meet it's kickstarter goal.
This was followed by Project Morpheous, now called PS VR with a release date expected for later this year. Following that was Playstation Vue and as promised it was released nationwide in May 2016.
Sony closed the show with Uncharted 4 which released earlier this year following a delay.

Well expect that again because that is kind of how most E3 conferences go

A TLOU teaser is possible I guess but I think you will just see U4 DLC from Naughty Dog

Well, SFV is out; PS Vue is out; Uncharted is out, to great reviews, obviously worth the delay (in fact, proof of the axiom that delays are always good for a game); Ratchet and Clank is out, no delay, to great reviews; NMS will be out in two months. That's decent, all within about a year. TLG isn't out yet, but I don't know anyone who expected it to be (late 2016 was the expectation). Granted, Horizon was delayed a few months; that was arguably the biggest loss, since it leaves the holiday a bit empty. The others (FF7 remake, Dreams, and Shenmue) didn't have release dates. I interpreted FF7 and Shenmue more as announcements of projects that were just beginning, not anything that would see the light of day soon. If people interpreted those as coming out soon, I think that was their mistake. I wouldn't expect Shenmue, in particular, until forever. I do expect Dreams by first quarter.

MS does this, too. At last E3, MS showed us Scalebound, Recore, Sea of Thieves, Cuphead, Fable Legends, Gears of War, and Hololens -- none of which have seen the light of day. I don't want to turn it into a "vs" debate -- and I acknowledge Sony is "worse" about this than MS (or "better," if you consider the hype they generate) -- but it's not like Sony is the only one doing it.

I've just learned to adjust my expectations. Whenever I hear a game announced for winter quarter (for instance), I just assume it will get delayed to Spring. As long as the games are good, I'm not complaining.
