The 2017 NFL Season Thread

Great win for my Pats last night. I didn't think they had a real chance but when i saw Jimmy G bring them down the field on the first drive and throw a TD pass i just laughed. Belichick has all the answers. No Brady, no Gronk, missing two starting tackles and they still beat a contender on the road.

Happy the Jets got their first win. The game was more lopsided than the score indicated. Buffalo had some big plays, a touchdown on a turnover, but couldn't really move the ball consistently. Plus, their defense was torched. 3 touchdowns for Forte' and Fitz had nearly 400 yards in the air. Tough to win games when that happens.

Which explains why Buffalo identified what went wrong and fired their.... offensive coordinator? I only saw the second half, but from what I can tell the offense wasn't exactly terrible - wildly inconsistent and reliant on big plays, yes -- but their defense was the kind of matador roleplay that I've seen way too frequently in Jacksonville the past decade. But, of course, the defensive coordinator has made the great strategic decision to be a twin brother of the head coach, which in retrospect I suppose Roman should have done too if he wanted to keep the job.

The Bills are definitely cleaning house this year. No one is safe. I expect Rex to be fired mid-season. Rob Ryan is unbelievably overrated, especially coming up from Buddy Ryan's defensive mindset.

But my guess as to why they fired the OC is, the Bills lead the league in rushing last year and have less than 160 yards in two games. McCoy had one decent run last night but was a non-factor. I am thinking cutting Karlos Williams hurt that offense more than they thought.

I hope my Raiders aren't going to have to score 35 points each week to win.

Too much talent on that defense to suck that bad.

Well, Garapolo looked like PAt's next frachise QB there...He just need to bit his time. I think two more years and Brady is done. Mind is willing but body can only take so much here.

Yup. Then he throws 3 TDs today against the fish and injures his shoulder. Probably going to be out the next two weeks or more then it's back to Brady. Guess we'll see what Brissett can do now these next couple games. Almost blew a 28 point lead playing it safe.

Well, Brissett got run out of town by Will Muschamp at Florida, which is probably the best indicator that he's probably very good because Muschamp is to offensive genius what Kid Rock is to scientific genius. Of course, the flashbacks to 2012 for me continued with the Jaguars putting in a hardboiled turd performance in San Diego.

My Raiders have the worst defense in the league. We've given up a historical number of yards and points through two games.

It sucks too because we have a nice young offense that is wasted on pure defensive incompetence.

You'll probably get a letter of apology. That's usually how it happens.

Nope! Not this time. Not even that!!! The league ref association came out and said no camera angle caught the fact that Tyler Boyd's knee was down and should not have been a fumble! Even though the side line judge completely SAW IT and told Marvin Lewis that his knee was down and multiple camera angle caught the same fact.................Face it, it's stuff like this that some people are calling some NFL games are a set up! Now, I don't believe it, but stuff like this.........When obvious is so Captain Obvious, and you still take a blind eye.............

The Jaguars got one that said the officials missed 16 calls in the game against the Packers week 1, including one that would have given them first and goal instead of fourth and throw a stupid screen to lose a game. To the team's credit, they made sure the officials didn't cost them the SD game, but not in the way we hoped they would.

I've been thinking more and more about these " bad" officials.

I used to think that the league favored certain teams over others, and that may still be true, but I feel like Vegas has a lot to do with the way games are concluded.

I won't say that they're fixed. But I believe they can be manipulated to achieve a certain spread.

The Raiders Vs. Saints game was lopsided to the Saints in one half, and then we got some questionable calls to help us win.

I think we were favored by 3 and won by 3.

People will chalk missed calls up to human error. But when a ref is looking right at a lineman tackling a defender from behind but keeps the flag in his pocket, it makes you wonder.

The reason the Ravens went 5-11 last year is definitely because of routinely made bad calls or non calls. They got about a dozen apologies from the refs last year. Its more glaring when you look at the stats and see that almost every single game was won by the opposition by an average of 3 points.

Sometimes, that's just fanspeak. Sometimes there's truth to it. You may have noticed I'm a Jaguars fan (and Jacksonville area resident most of my life), and yeah, I know at least one game the Ravens got screwed out of last season. ;)

As I part time official of Ultimate and kids soccer, I tend to give the refs the benefit of the doubt. However, these guy s got a lot wrong last year and cost them in my mind at least 2 games.. Probably a good thing since almost the entire starting team was down by the end of the regular season due to injury. That's 3-5 weeks of being battered to a pulp avoided.

And there was another one in the Bengals Steelers game in which a Steelers offensive lineman headlocks Bengals (Looked like Rey Maulauga) defensive lineman to prevent him from getting to Ben. Yep. No flags....So I guess headlocks are now allowed in the NFL!

Kahlil Mack has been held more in the NFL than in his entire childhood.

But that wasn't a normal regular hold though. This was where the Steeler OL had his arm wrapped around Rey's neck, choking the life out of him and bent his back at an absurd inhuman angle. That's not a hold, that's called trying to take someone's head off and should have warrented an instant flag, 15yards min personal foul penalty and a stern warning that if he does it again, he would be gone! But nope....Not a whimper, not even a fart from the refs! Now, if that was an regular hold and the ref missed it, then I would've given the benefit of the doubt, but something this egregious?......

I believe it.

We had a nice run called back on us because our offensive lineman legally pancaked a Dlineman. Then when the Falcon's got the ball, they had a nice run even though our LB literally got tackled from behind right as he approached the RB.

The game was tight at the time too. I think we led 14-13. These refs are changing the outcome of games.

Dak looks like the real deal. Like what I'm seeing for that kid. Fun games the first two weeks.

Behind the Raiders, the Cowboys are my second team.
My best friend and two of my nephews are huge fans. So I watch all their games as well.

Dak looks so poised it's scary.

I haven't really seen his deep ball accuracy yet. But man, he seems to make really good decisions with the ball and goes through his reads better than most rookies I've seen.

I'm not sure about his pre-snap reads or if he's changing plays at all. But he's running an efficient offense. Really happy for you guys.

Cowboys D still needs a few more drafts and a few more good free agent pickups before they can make the 'Boys a contender. But that offense is no joke! In fact, any running backs will have a field day behind that OL! This is why I'm so gald Zeke Elliot went to the D-Boys....He should become the next Emmitt Smith once he work out his rookie kinks.

Yeah it's interesting watching the Cowboys and Raiders. They have a lot parallels. Good young offenses with crap defenses.

Cowboys D can at least make a stop here and there.

Looks like it's time to rename the Lombardi trophy the Belichick trophy. Brissett took the Texans to the rodeo. 27-0 Pats!

Yeah. I'm not at all a fan of the Pats, but since the Texans are in the AFC South I was happy with that result. It amazed me how many people I saw predicting that the Texans would just go into Foxboro and win. I'm also glad I saw the predicitons and Cowher listed Blount as his predicted player of the game, which reminded me I hadn't set my fantasy lineup (which would have been unfortunate because I would have had him on the bench).
