Is it?

It sounds like a lot to be sure, but this service has a lot going on in it. 400 games. Day 1 for all first party. Cloud streaming. Perks, discounts, etc, and is now the only thing powering online services.
They already said GP is profitable a while back, so it is enough as of right now to at least sustain itself.

Marketing rights are massive and always have been for major titles. COD sells 20-25 million every two years. It’s a shift in mindshare with the casual consumer.
Really? Xbox had the marketing before and said it wasn't worth it. It selling that every 2 years means nothing in this context. Yes, a revenue earner, but COD isn't going be some godly Xbox seller.

Imagine when they actually start making a good COD again it could really take off. Game still on top sales every year and massively popular with bad design decisions and full of bugs in recent years. The casuals could shift XB way in the future if they give them a reason to.

Sony thought it was worth it and they signed a 10 year deal for it. You think that was for nothing?

COD bundles do big business. Don't forget the series is the main reason Sony wanted to block the deal.

Isn't it only the last release that really got criticism from fans?

People have been b****ing about COD since MW (2016) and after Warzone originally launched. Been the skill based matchmaking, bad design decisions, bad bugs that either take forever to get fixed or never get fixed, they never listening to fans, etc… I could write an essay on how much they have f***ed up COD in recent years.

Yeah. People have but they still buy it every year. Last year was the one that seemed to get the main criticism.

They bought big companies there's going to be overlap, this is how business works.
Not to that degree and it wasn't just activision. That last round was roughly 8% of the overall gaming division and they had two rounds of layoffs in 2023.

Because they could tell it was thrown together quickly and the campaign was significantly shorter than previous COD campaigns which were already short but generally fun. Of course, I'm sure you are going to say it's because Microsoft owns them now and not because there could possibly be a legit reason to be critical lol. Seems like it didn't sell as well as the previous game either although it still sold very well.

Of all the people to imply someone is biased, it's the guy who has no interest in Xbox who stalks the Xbox forums.

So they finally complained about CODs issue for the last 10 or so years.

Yeah the casuals always will buy it. More people actually did complain about MW3’s release and yet people still bought that sorry excuse of a new release. Sorry not trying to be a d*** about lol, when it comes to COD it was my favorite series to play since it originally started. I hate how bad it has gotten and Activision/Devs didn’t care because people will still buy it and still buy micro transactions like crazy. Sony hated MS getting COD for a reason it sales no matter what and stays popular.

The 2024 COD should be an impovement. The last COD was rumored to have started out as an expansion. Either way, it was a rush job by Sledgehammer. Normally, Treyarch's game would have followed the IW one, but they got an extra year. Last year's game was developed before MS owned them anyway lol.

This game being on Game Pass won't be a massive system seller, but it will help.

Plus, once they get all the old games on there, we can enjoy COD before the modern SBMM systems. It is going to be great to jump into Blops 2 and other greats from the series.

I want Blops 3 for the BR mode.

Yes to that degree, happens all the time... considering how many acquisitions they've made, the overlap should be huge.
