I feel this is a major victory against Trump. Still though, it is a failure that we're in this position at all.

Trump shut the government down for over a month and got nothing out of it.

Art of the Deal

Something that gets lost in the shutdown is how much of a strain it put on federal workers. It shows how when they say the economy is "doing well", it isn't. When people don't have enough savings to miss 1-2 paychecks, that's a very, very bad thing.

If you can't go 2 paychecks and still pay your bills, you aren't middle class. You are in poverty but just in debt up to your eyeballs.

Ann Coulter on Bill Maher last night. A little long but a good watch.

Republican strategy 101 here kids. You can say a lot about Ann Coulter, but she's not an idiot.

Every Republican wants to tell you who the "enemy" is. Ann says it is the Kock brothers and it isn't immigrants, except that it is immigrants too because we're not racist at all but let's compare Latinos to Hezbolla anyway.

Republicans... it is time to wake up and see the enemy. It is staring you in the face. It is the elephant in the room. The party of the rich wants you to vote for them/buy their books and doesn't care a bit about any of the middle class.

Seriously, notice the pattern? They will tell you who the "enemy" is. Socialism. Venezuela. AOC. Hillary. Koch brothers. Immigrants. Not Russia. Not bold faced lies and liars. The enemies shift as their needs and desires shift. That should alarm those of you still thinking about voting for this kind of thing.

Also, some would say "Ann Coulter doesn't speak for the party", and I would agree. She's just another example of the same playbook.

Sounds like Bernie will announce he is running soon

YAY

Bernie running as an indie will destroy this country. Trump will win his base back sometime in the next year, and Bernie will split the opposition vote. Any gain in millennial votes will go to him.

Well he isn't going to run as an independent

I just think we are going to repeat history with his supporters angry over who wins and him not knowing when to walk away.

I have already seen a ton of tweets talking about voting in the first woman POTUS again, if we play identity politics again we are going to lose. The only woman who actually has a substantive argument is Warren but she kind of went off track a bit last year and needs to rehab her image a little. Harris has nothing going for her but her gender and ethnicity and Gillibrand is a joke. There is some talk about Klobuchar of Minnesota running and she may be a good candidate but she needs to get out there now if she's going to do it and start getting around the country familiar with her.

Biden would have a good shot but I do think we need some younger blood if it's possible, same with Bernie. Sadly a bunch of the tweets I see are "we don't need another white man as POTUS" as if that's going to bring any white men over which we will need if we want to win.

I have also seen the old white man stuff about Biden and Bernie. Very sad as Biden could clean up with independents if he won the nomination. Wish he wasn't so old. Man he should have run in 2016.

Warren is way too weak when battling Trump and the Native American stuff was so mishandled. Really hope she doesn't win. Much like Biden probably should have ran in 2016.

With 15-20 candidates hopefully someone can really break out. I think Harris wins in the end. Certainly she is off to a good start.

Harris won't win a general yet, honestly she should have waited a few more cycles because she hasn't done anything of note and she honestly comes off as a bit of a jerk in her hearings. I think Warren should have run last time as well, she's still the most substantive of any of the announced female candidates so far and if our nominee is a woman I hope it's her out of the ones that have announced. Biden or Bernie would have a better chance than any of them and it's not because of their gender although some will make that claim. Biden just connects with middle of the road people and blue collar types. Bernie has built in support from last cycle and I believe anyone who would have supported Warren would support him (and vice versa) once the primaries are over. I just don't want our side to get all caught up in the "I'm with her" nonsense again, make it about their ideas not what's between their legs.
