The Kool-Aid sipping thread of crazy rumors. Keep it civil!

They don't want any screenshot, framerate, resolution comparisons perhaps? I can't think of any other reason, the whole thing is very odd.
Honestly that sounds like something MS would be doing? (at least that would fit the narrative of today's rumour mill

New Tweet from Marcus Beer:

Let me clarify 1 thing, it's not about "video capture issues", it's about evaluating things in staged environments. Don't trust staged s***.

Um...okay. So I guess Sony is only allowing them to review in a controlled environment?

Jeez, I have no idea what that means.

UPDATE:

Another one:

If I am to comment on a game or system, I need to install/ set up said product myself. Don't let me do it? I get mighty suspicious.
So Sony are only allowing an environment they set up? that does sound kind of odd.

What the f*** are Sony/Microsoft doing??.....:smash:
....I read this and immediately thought of...

LOL that's brilliant

thats weird gies already says he has played AC4 on the ps4 and would have a review out by next monday.

nevermind i guess its just the smaller media outlets, like marcus and sessler that dont get debug ps4s. they have to go out and buy consoles like regular people.

It is about the Sony event and most likely what will be the future for game reviews going forward. We wouldn't know this because an insider on GAF (Thuway) is being very cautious since he is a Sony guy.

If this was a negative Microsoft leak he would have blown the thing up. However he won't smear Sony. The problem is Sony isn't allowing anyone to review their games without being at this controlled event. This is why everyone is mad. Because they feel like Sony will pull some BS on the hardware, software, and of course wine and dine these guys to get better scores.
Thaaaaaaaat's kindah lame. But honestly, this kind of annoys me a bit. So many people jumping all over Microsoft today and the implosion was set by Sony. WTH, I say WTH?!?

It isn't 3rd party games. It is Kill Zone, Knack, and the 50 arcade games Sony has at launch. Sony can't control other peoples games. However they can have their games reviewed at their controlled event.

It is because if their is a negative rumored that isn't tied to a company the internet immediately points to Microsoft.

Has anything like this been done before? Not sure I've even heard of a controlled game review from a publisher. This sounds like an invitation to a wine and cheese of sorts...

Not sure. I think Rockstar did something like this with GTA 4. I believe they locked everyone in hotel rooms or something like that to review their game.

However no company has ever always done it for every one of their games. This sounds like just Sony (as of now) will do it this way going forward.

What is this HDCP? I'm confused...
The long and short of it is that HDCP is digital protection from piracy..it's what stops people from recording cable/video streams and distributing them as pirated copies. In video gaming HDCP prevents video capture cards from capturing direct gameplay as it it passes from the console to the TV.

So let me get this straight....if this is true you have:

Microsoft letting people play their games out in public....going on tours with the system and games. Letting gamers really get a feel for the system. Meanwhile the internets all paint the Xbox 1 as a 'terrible and weak system'.

On the other hand you have Sony.....that wants their games demoed in a controlled environment and has not even come close to showing off the PS4 running exclusives/launch games to any sort of uncontrolled public crowd. Internets have declared the PS4 the better system and praise Sony for it....

MIND BLOWN!
...if all this is true.

Hi all, took me a while to remember my password or I would have jumped in sooner.

Its not just about the games, its reviewing the actual system 2 days before the damn thing ships.
Something feels off right now to be honest & a lot of people are pissed about it.
If you have seen anything I have done over the last 8 months, you will know I have been very happy with the way Sony has been doing things but now its time for them to s*** or get off the pot and they are being damn evasive about allowing serious access to the system before launch.
I have mine preordered (ditto XboxOne) & if that is the only way I will get to have said access to the PS4 then so be it.
When people delay access to something, game or hardware, it's never for a good reason in my experience.

O boy.

dirty tactic to use controlled events for reviewing the console/games.

manufacturing problems?

Lets not forget that many havent even touched a retail Ps4 yet. As that saying goes: There's something rotten in Denmark.....or in this case, China. o_O

Definitely, I wonder what their motive is for this, is it innocent or nefarious? I know everyone was already kinda choked that there is some sort of MS embargo on reviewed games that is a week later than PS4, but it's 10 days before launch..2 days does not seem like enough time to review exclusives (which are what most people are buying the systems for) with good honest reviews and get them out to the public to digest.

I would also like to know this, they are not mad at MS and MS isn't the reason for embargoes and Sony is the reason....than why the delay in xbox one game reviews?

Well Sony reviews for those games come out 10 days before launch too, I assume its maybe about keeping the time frame the same? Who knows lol

....This might be because of the RAM...and a cooling system that isn't robust. The system is smaller than the Xbox 1 and already we have had reports of it freezing and locking up multiple times during LIVE shows. More so than the Xbox 1.

Not entirely sure what that means, someone on reddit was saying it meant that sony would be providing the material that reviewers could show to the public, and that reviewers would not be able to capture their own footage.
