The Official E3 2017 Thread

Yeah I can understand that stance. I'm actually more of a single player type myself. But I'm not really all that bothered about Microsoft direction.

I think there will certainly be single player games. Or at least more in line with nearly all third party games that have both components.

Oh for sure, the thing is games like Sea of Thieves would have interested me if it was more like AC Black Flag and not an MMO type of game, I know everyone sees how we'll GTAV is doing online and wants to get into that but there is still a big market who likes single player games with stories to tell. A healthy balance is great, I just hope MS isn't gun shy after their experiences with Remedy's games and Sunset Overdrive.

They can keep GOW.... at least for $60 as those games are way 2 short.

Yeah, I liked the first 3 but only the single player portions. After Gears 3 I was done with the series, I was satisfied with the story at that point. The gameplay is just too stop and go for me and Marcus sounds like Yosemite Sam to me so I can't take him seriously lol.

GOW=god of war lol

Microsoft was always heavy into multiplayer and GASS. That didn't start this gen. I keep arguing that their issue wasn't their focus on those types of games....it was losing the lead in terms of mindshare and quality with those types of games. They were the innovators and leaders in that area and now their exclusives are way down the list compared to 3rd parties. Halo and Gears dropped out of their top 10 most played games on Xbox quick and neither really innovated online unlike how those franchises have led in the past. That and Microsoft hasn't come out with anything new that has led online.

Microsoft's 1st party games have always been bad at storytelling compared to Sony. Outside of publishing Mass Effect and Alan Wake, can't think of too many good stories from their exclusives. Halo jumped the shark in terms of story telling when the giant talking plant tells Master Chief and Arbiter to unite in Halo 2.

oops lol God of War was the original GOW so I should have known lol. I think the new one looks awesome, it'll be a lot deeper based on the character no longer being one dimensional and finally getting rid of those chain blades.

I'm soooooo happy that most all of the "big" conferences are either taking place on the weekend or in the evening this year, so I can actually watch them live!

I'm really looking forward to watching this weekend. I wish it was televised like it used to be. Do you have any idea of the best place to go to watch the conferences?

Sony is having theirs played in some movie theaters. That would be pretty cool to see an E3 show in a theater. Think about all the plastic worshipping while eating popcorn.

So here is the official channel for the Xbox briefing:

https://mixer.com/xbox

Plainview how can one embed the mixer into this thread in case we want to watch it live in the thread?

This is the copied URL for embedding:

<iframe allowfullscreen="true" src="https://mixer.com/embed/player/167395"></iframe>

Supposedly the best option for watching E3 as it is interactive, and will have giveways and stuff during the show from MS. When it was Beam, I found it to be much better video quality than Twitch. But your mileage may vary.

I am going to watch the show on my Xbox One S using the Mixer app and enjoy the 4K. If any of you guys are on, we should do a party chat during it, or message in the chat window.

I'm pretty sure Twitch is streaming all the conferences so you can watch it on your TV after all.

That's one thing that gives me pause about investing into the Xbox ecosystem. It almost seems from Spencer's statements that they are more interested in trying to go the MP or games as a service route vs compelling single player games.

Yeah. That concerns me, too. I'm almost completely a singleplayer gamer, and they seem to be moving in a different direction.

You need to fix this, and you need to fix this soon. I think multiplayer gaming is going to explode over the next 10 years, not just in terms of popularity, but in terms of design. I don't feel the same way about single player games.

As Logan, aka Wolverine once said, "There is a war coming. Are you sure you're on the right side?"

Ha, probably not. But there's no fixing it. MP gaming just isn't my thing. I'm an introverted type, and I like the immersion in a different world, the variety of gameplay, the stories and characters, and the sense of control I get in SP games. I can't find most of that in MP gaming, most of which seems pretty repetitive and shallow (or else too competitive) for me.

I agree, although I can think of a few others on the original Xbox -- Kotor, Jade Empire, and even Buffy.

I could never get into God of War -- I didn't like Kratos (too much rage & revenge) and I'm not a fan of hack-and-slash type combat. But Dad of War looks promising. They've made a lot of changes. Look forward to seeing it at E3.

I'm a huge God of War fan, but I am a little worried about this new installment. I love Kratos though and hope they don't get rid of his rage.

I have only played God of War 3. I really enjoyed the game and I am looking forward to the next one. But I am not huge into it, and if they never made another I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. But it is a cool game.

You don't like Batman Arkham series or Shadow of Modor?

I liked the first Batman. Didn't feel like doing it again, though, so I haven't played the sequels (though I tried, a bit). Didn't like Shadow or Mordor, no. To be fair, I only played it an hour or so before deciding it wasn't my style. Maybe it gets better later.

1 day to E3! Woo!

I'm jumping the gun a little, counting EA's conference on Saturday as the start, though I'm sure 90% of the people here will consider MS's conference on Sunday the start and EA just prelude.

I posted a stat on how much game vs. talk there was at each of the conferences last year. EA was a distant last place at 24% game vs. talk. So, expect a lot of yap, yap, yap.

However, 6 known games (Battlefield, Battlefront, sports), and 2 unknowns (possibly a Bioware reveal and the new Josef Fares game).

Modor is probably my favorite game this generation.

GoW 3 is my favorite of the series. I recently purchased the remaster for a stupidly low price and now I'm itching to play it. At the time of its release it had some of the best use of quick timed events and I'd like see if those still hold up. I need to see more of the next installment that is ditching Greek mythology for Norse. When they showed the video of him using an Ax the first thing I said to myself is "where are his Blades of Chaos". It'll take some getting used to but a good game shines no matter how different it is from previous installments.

I just read Kojima's next game "Death Stranding" won't make an E3 appearance. :(

Eh, no hurry on that game anyway. It will probably be good, but everyone should have known it's gonna be ages before it comes out. I mean look at the flakey developer :)

I will probably get it on PC anyway, as it will probably be a 4K looker.

Kojima definitely takes his time but I was hoping he had something to show at this year's E3. I'm not a PC gamer so I'll have to settle for the Playstation version. But his game is using the Horizon: Zero Dawn engine so the PS port should be almost as good as its PC version.

There's one not far from work, but it's at 9PM I think and I'll watch it at home if at all. But gotta give them props for leveraging the theaters like that.
