The Xbox One Thread

Confused by this completely. I've had a x360 since launch, I am 31 and my first console was NES with Super Mario bros and duck hunt. I consider myself to be rational AND I care about multimedia.

I actually think the Xbox One is much more desirable BECAUSE of the multimedia experience. I am excited that about the TV integration, the snap of apps. I like the idea that my wife can easily voice command the TV. By your logic I am irrational? tsk tsk

Yes, you are being confused, as that was not what I meant. I meant to say, if you are a rational gamer, you will not might if there are extra non gaming features on the xbox, that you may or may not care about.

This is in response to people that gets upset when MS show many non gaming features like the football, Skype & TV stuff, & claim that MS abandoned Core gamers.

I think you missread part of his comment, I think he meant that a rational person isn't going to hate the X1 because it is multimedia, that they don't care its multimedia and not just a gaming machine.

Actually they don't receive any royalties for software sold on PC (Neither does Apple)...which is one of the reasons why they created the Windows Marketplace in Windows 8 and Apple Store with whatever version of OSX included it.
Yap, for an 'Evil' organisation, they have made the OS very affordable, & many stuff practically for free, as long as you can endured a bit of ads every now & then.

In the Phil Spencer interview, he says that the scene in Quantum Break where the guy is moving through the debris is in-game with controller, awesome!

Dont argue with that one mate. Its not worth it. Although, I do find it quite enjoyable when someone who opposes the look and fidelity of games on the XO. Just proves the games really do look good beyond belief. I think he just prefers for console manufacturers to over promise and under deliver like with another "competing console". Microsoft has a pretty good track record of walking their talk.

No worries from my perspective.

Just because you are a fanboy doesn't mean we all have to be. I happen to think Ryse is one of the best looking games I've seen so far. That still doesn't mean games don't get downgraded and cut scenes get passed off as "in game". You are like the xbox version of puppet. -_-

You mean a completely different team and perhaps new threat?
Not sure about new thread thingy, but definitely no zombies please. Would be nice if its not 'on rail'. Not open world (that everyone is crazy about this days), but slightly more freedom. How about something similar to Mass effect, a little upgrade possibilities (not full blown RPG, but simple perks, like tomb raider), able to travel to different places, choice order of mission, side mission & all. Afterall, Mass effect does copy its combat from gears.

Never doubt the talent of MGS. Unless its rare, then its a mixed bag...LOL. I do love Fable, don't get me wrong.

I think they should expand 343i to make more than just Halo.

Are you writing about halo? I'm more confused than normal!

halo 4 was only a test for 343i to see what they could do. Hopefully 5 will be their "baby" As it will be the first halo on the X1. Also hopefuuly they will take thecod aspect out of mp

I see some people here saying that MS with the X1 lost focus of gaming, yet they clearly have the stronger launch lineup and their E3 was full of games. Plenty of great games coming too. Kinect as a gaming device has been moved to the background and it shows with a lot less games where Kinect is shoehorned in. So lost focus of gaming? I'd say not at all.

Something else I don't get though. I know it has been said to be a tools issue that CoD is 720 and BF4 too, but why CAN games like Forza, NBA and Fifa be 1080p? Those devs didn't have a problem with tools?
Pretty simple. Turn10 is a first party studio that has been working with the tools much longer than most 3rd parties and they are working on ONE version of the game (pun intended). IW and DICE are working on 3 or more versions (granted with help from other teams like Raven and Sledgehammer) of their games with 2 new platform architectures (one is easy like a PC and the other is more exotic with more custom pieces). Why do you think Last of Us was probably the best or one of the best looking games on PS3?....same tools as everyone else.

Do we need kincet to play all games this kincet is what is stoping mr from geting x1
No but Kinect is featured heavily as a part of the entire system. Instant On/Instant Switching/voice recognition wouldn't work. Games that use it (some mandatory/some not):
  • Dead Rising 3 - distract zombies with noises
  • BF4 - Some head tracking for lean
  • Forza 5? - 4 had the Kinect showroom and head tracking while racing not sure if F5 has same?
  • Ryse - Voice commands to troops
  • All EA sports games have some kind of Kinect/Smartglass integration
  • Fighter Within - ummmm....yeah (mandatory)
  • Just Dance - For ummm..dancing (mandatory)
  • Kinect Sports Rivals - Preseason (Demo)(mandatory)
  • Angry Birds Star Wars - somebody kill this already!
  • Zoo Tycoon (heavy integration; not sure if mandatory)
So, 3 or 4 games have mandatory Kinect and many others have some features (voice commands, head tracking, etc.). I like Kinect personally so I'm disappointed KSR didn't make launch but plenty of other games and interactions via Kinect to be had. YMMV.

Well Crytek has been quite vocal about how Ryse characters look as good as they do in cutscenes as in gameplay and seeing as how they are Crytek, i am inclined to believe them.

Rare is actually another dev that has always been technically proficient when it comes to pushing consoles and going by at least the "waverice" segment of Rivals that hasn't changed. As for 343i, i would love to see them do something not related to Halo as well.

Riiiight.....

In other news....

This was my point to begin with. But Xbox gamers are supposed to take quotes from devs like Crytek with a grain of salt, while its perfectly alright to take the word of anonymous developers and rampant rumor mills when speaking on the PS4 and Sony. Sounds logical to me.

Yeah the press got to play that demo behind closed doors at E3 and some other event. Also Sam Lake has said a few times that it was all in game footage.

The real crazy thing is is that he said he has money to buy what ever studio he wants because there is no difference in the money spent when a 1st or 3rd party makes your game.

I want them to buy Remedy so bad.

Errm I never claimed anything about crytek? The discussion was on quantum break.

"A PC with similar specs (similar graphics card) can handle BF4, COD-G at 1080p, right?" A 1.18TF AMD GPU (like the Radeon 7770) would probably run at 30 FPS w/ drops at 1080p w/ medium settings. Halve the resolution to 720p and you'd be around 60 FPS with drops. So BF4 on XB1 is about what you'd expect from a launch cross-gen port given its GPU.

"2. The primary advantage of the XB1 is bandwidth, enabled by the ESRAM." Memory width is only an issue up to the point where the system has enough to avoid bottlenecks for the target resolution + effects, so it's a non-starter which one has "more".

PS4 has enough memory width for its GPUs needs, and has no problems with 1080p with AA and other advanced IQ. As for XB1's memory width, it doesn't look good right now, but maybe they can pull some ESRAM coding miracles later in the gen. ESRAM coding difficulties is almost certainly behind CoD being 720p, when it should be 900p at least, if not 1080p (it's not like it's a tech demanding game like BF4).

I'm not sure why sales or marketing keep getting brought up. How well it sells shouldn't affect whether someone enjoys it. I want to play XB1 exclusives eventually, but not buying an XB1 right away.

If you like the XB1 exclusive games and features like kinect, and you don't care that multiplats look worse, go and get the XB1. Aside from bigger framerate drops, BF4 on XB1 has the same gameplay as on the PS4.

What the f*** are you on about?
The X1 is doing native 1080p 60fps now????

Your basing this on COD being 1080p on your console (PS4)....

Currently you have two launch games that are native in that respect at 60fps and the X1 has 1.

Go and Troll somewhere else.......

Lococycle, NBA2k14, & Fifa 14 are all launch games at 1080p 60fps too

Microsoft: We may monitor communications "to the extent permitted by law" in New Privacy Statement

Microsoft has detailed how the Xbox One’s Kinect will use any data it collects during play. Xbox One owners are advised details about your appearance gleaned from Kinect’s facial recognition technology will be totally private, but are also reminded not to expect any level of privacy while chatting over the service.

In order to use the camera to sign you in, Kinect “measures distances between key points on your face to create a numeric value that represents only you.” This information stays on your console and is not shared. The value itself is stored as a “very long set of numbers” and, according to Microsoft, “[n]o one could look at the numbers and know they represent you.”

For gameplay purposes, Kinect will map the distances between your body’s joints to create a stick figure. The numeric values for your stick figure are temporarily stored in memory on your console during a gameplay session but are destroyed when you quit the session.

If you’re playing online “Microsoft may collect those numeric values to enable and improve gameplay and improve the gaming experience” but the values sent to Microsoft are “destroyed after analysis is complete.” The company notes you will not be able to be identified by your stick figure representation.

Some game titles may allow you to use defined facial expressions to control or influence a game. Microsoft explains this data stays on the console and is destroyed once your session ends. It cannot be used to identify you, according to the company.

Microsoft asserts players control what happens to photographs taken during gameplay and whether voice commands are captured for analysis.

In terms of voice chat, however, the privacy statement advises users they “should not expect any level of privacy concerning your use of the live communication features such as voice chat, video and communications in live-hosted gameplay sessions offered through the Services.” Microsoft says it may monitor communications “to the extent permitted by law, but we cannot monitor the entire Service and make no attempt to do so.” The company reminds users that other players could record and use your communications on Xbox Live and your “[c]ommunications in live-hosted gameplay sessions may also be broadcast to others.”

Players are also advised that, when playing multiplayer on Xbox Live, “any player in that session can use GameDVR to record their view of the gameplay taking place in that session.” This recording may capture your in-game character and gamertag, says Microsoft, but no audio chat is recorded in these game clips.

Microsoft stressed that Xbox does not listen in on Skype calls.

The company reiterated Kinect can be turned off at any time; saying “Kinect Off” will turn off the Kinect sensor, or you can simply unplug it from the console. You can also “delete all the Kinect data you have cached on the console by going to Settings and selecting ‘Reset my Kinect data’ or by removing your profile from that console.”

I have to games paid off. I've heard that launch titles will be released on demand day one. I've also heard they won't,wich is why I paid for the games. Can someone tell me please. When I get my X1 home run the update. Will I be able to buy and play Ryse and Dead Rising 3? If I can I don't see the point in oicking up the games from the store.

This is no different than it is now though, right ? I mean MS can listen t your voice communications with in game. Obviously now though ou have the added video stuff ( was this in current gen?), but is par for the course really.

Yeah a lot of this goes on right now. It's actually a good news article because they're discussing what they're doing exactly.
