The Xbox Onesie

It's just what they feel needs to happen unfortunately. Gamers spoke and the majority doesn't care about Kinect. If we're being realistic, Kinect is where the Xbox brand started to fall off. It sucks people have to be so close minded but it is what it is.

I think i'm probably just going to sell my Kinect when i upgrade to the One S. The only thing i really use it for anymore is recording clips and that can easily be done with the controller. It had a good run, great device but it's time to move on.
I know this is old, but I actually did sell my my old Xbox One with Kinect before buying the S.

I see no more point in it, currently. I guess I kind of miss voice control, but it wasn't that big a deal. I still stand by what I said about MS being so all or nothing. They got criticized for basically forcing devs to support it, but then they completely abandoned it. It's kind of a strange way that they do business... Especially since it was the most successful consumer electronics launch ever. They could have just moderately supported it and kept that going indefinitely. They also should have had a single version for Xbox and PC. It would have felt more natural that way. I guess, at least they aren't making the VR headsets, cuz I don't really trust them with peripheral support now.

You didnt lose voice control. "Hey Cortana"

You have to have the headset on, right? I just picked up a headset recently. Haven't tried it for that.

Since they put the ir blaster in the S, I wonder why they didn't just put mics on the sides of the console or even better, they should have just put a mic in the new controller. I have an Xfinity X1 box, and the voice recognition on the remote is top notch. It understands me way better than Kinect did. It's probably mostly because you speak right into it.

As a former fan of the brand, chased away by the latter years of the 360 and the dabacle that is the Xbox One (not just performance, although it does matter), I do catch myself going a little hyper over the Scorpio. Even love the name and believe they should use it, as it has plenty of traction on forums.

However the install times was one of my main reasons for not liking the Xbox One, having played it at my sister (a huge fangirl in camp green, although she does love to play Mario Kart with me ;)), I found them obnoxious and one of my major reasons not to buy it.

On top of which, well I'm no graphics whore, but the lack of first party from MS themselves, made me wonder why I would even get it. Graphics wise they were behind, and for that I have a PC.

Now with the possible release of information next week, on the Xbox Scorpio (still hope they stick with that name, it's awesome! :)), I was wondering if on the newer titles the install times at least have improved? Like how long is it before you can actually play the full game on an XBox one these days?

And is the OS at least snappier (Pun intended ;), never liked the snap functionality much ;)) than the one I saw like 2 years ago at my Sister's?

The install times vary greatly on the XB1 currently, as it seems everything is installed from the web, even when your "installing" from disc. As of the latest dashboard update the OS is really quick, it used to plod along in the former version, especially so when using snap and returning to the home screen. Snap is also a thing of the past now too, which I lament as I actually liked snap. It was nice to be able to open game related apps without having to close out the game in progress.

Sounds like you're a graphics whore, so just stick to your PC.
For multiplatforms? Unless they offer great couch multiplayer, yes I'm into graphics. It is something I work in daily. But I don't mind it that much for exclusives or stylish games. For instance my main gaming platform was the Wii U for most of the time, which you don't get for graphics alone I might add.

Just there is something about the Scorpio hype I find mesmerizing, and my main issue simply is install times. I also find the answer a bit uncalled for, but okay. Maybe I deserved it :).

That's cool, as snap just slowed everything down for me. I did like that you could just pick up were you left off, but it wasn't worth it half the time. That and the counter-intuitive nature of it all.

I'm sorry you're losing a feature you enjoy though. But the install times didn't improve then, oh well, I guess I'll just have to wait. Not getting a Switch until this craze dies down and there are more couch multiplayer games for it :).

Thanks for the info. And I really hope MS will find a way to make these installs faster.

Yeah snap did turtle it for sure, especially as the dash got updated more and more. The latest dash is really quick/responsive.

All games are a half hour install or less for me on the Xbox One.

Well I'm full digital on Xbox so can't help you there. If you mainly PC then that is probably your best bet for MS exclusives as long as they continue the Play Anywhere deal. As for multiplatforms the Scorpio should without a doubt be the best looking. And finally the most recent OS update has made the system so much better. That has been one of my biggest issues with the Xbox One and they have finally fixed it. I would imagine the Scorpio would have the same OS layout but who knows.

Well my reason of interest is also couch multi player, something I usually did on Nintendo games. But the Switch will mostly be a handheld buy for me once the price goes down slightly here in Norway, and there are more games out for it. As it is now it is far too expensive to justify the limited game selection that it has.

But thank you for your honest feedback :).

FM6 took over 45 minutes for me while being offline.
Ouch! It seems that install times really is something MS should work on then. Maybe sell their games on USB sticks to speed up "time to play"? More of a joke than a suggestion, really.

Is it really an issue? It's a one time thing per game.

I normally whack the disc in (If I didnt buy the game digitally) and then watch a movie/pluck my eyebrows/do anything else. If you're too impatient, you could always just buy digital and pre-load the game?

If you're playing recent AAA PC games, you should be pretty used to long install times.

Mine usually take around 30 mins to install. Plus you can already start playing after so much installs. A weird nitpicking thing to have a problem with.

Installs were generally pretty quick for me. And game updates were basically instantaneous. Unlike another console where game updates aren't bad, but can have you waiting for a few minutes.

Thankfully she hasn't picked up my six year old's "hey katana, play" so we can still stop youtube videos to make him eat or go to the bathroom or in theory, go to bed.

In Soviet Scorpiostan, game installs you. #HailCloud

Cortana doesn't listen to my kids at all- on my profile, at least. It's funny when they try to lower their voices to get it to work, lol...

Guess it depends on the game but usually 30 minutes. Not anywhere near as fast as PS4 installs but not nearly as bad as they were at launch. Never bothered me either way. People laughed at PS3 having mandatory installs last gen and i was just like okay. It sucks at times, but there's other things to do while a game installs like make a sandwich or something.

Well welcome to 8 months ago. ;)

Sold mine as well. I actually missed it when i realized the only way i could make clips was by double taping the home button. What a hassle. Then they fixed it with the recent March update so you only have to press the home button once, and then X to record a clip. Much better. I agree though, they are all or nothing and it's a puzzling way to do business. They definitely could have kept Kinect going, just putting far less emphasis on it. Admit that it's a peripheral and not the future of gaming like you wanted it to be and we're good.
