Titanfall 1 as a lifelong exclusive. Sequels undetermined.

It will all come down to what it does for the XBOX ONE, which IMO, will be a console seller. If that happens, MS will make sure it stays MS exclusive, although the next one will probably be XBOX ONE timed exclusive, then come to the PC later down the road.

You are incorrect. That's about all there is to say, I said it quite calmly, and I have nothing to "let go of" as I am not irrationally holding on to anything.

The IP is owned by Respawn and EA is the publisher. If you want to pontificate on the possibility that MS will secure future games, go for it. I think it's quite possible as well.

However someone asked a question, and you answered incorrectly. I'm here to be helpful.. not sure what your problem is.

Right. Here's another way to say it: Essentially this is now an exclusive title to the Xbox platform unless this title is unsuccessful (which I doubt it will be) then perhaps we could see the "franchise" on competing consoles, but dont bank on it. Fair enough.

Bottom line though, its a hell of a lot more exclusive now then it was yesterday. :D This is actually a big deal.

Yeah I think the most likely scenario and one of the reasons to go exclusive in the first place is to hopefully milk that money teet if your game is incredibly successful.

There are factors outside of MS's control though, and they have at times "let exclusives go multiplatform" that seemed like they would have been good to keep under their umbrella.. but that is all said with a grain of salt.. because all MS can do is offer money unless they already have a pre-written deal for future games.

I simply wouldn't be shocked either way. I wouldn't be shocked if MS bought Respawn.. if MS published all future Titanfall titles... and wouldn't be shocked if Respawn/EA took future titles multi-plat. All boils down to math with barely any of the parts of the equation figured out yet and what deals have already been inked or not.

Not a shocker. Well....maybe to some who really were snipping glue that TitanFall would someday see a PS4 release. The game's got way too much potential and great preview marks going for it to allow it to slip away. Next gen is about allot of things, and some oldschool as well. Including money hatting a few crutial exclusives. I'm not celebrating its exclusivity, just abit relieved. Why? Because maybe now the annoying port begging can stop. Better burn that petition eh? Master race can enjoy the game,as well as X1 and 360 owners. People have lots of options. Oh and que a sudden new negative X1 rumor surfacing any minute now with this news. :tounge:

They let other franchises go because their games didn't do nearly as well as MS thought they would. The Mass Effect series comes to mind. MS had a deal with Bioware to publish the entire series and there is really nothing EA could do about it even after buying up Bioware. MS let them go because the Mass Effect, although being extremely good, didn't push console sales, nor did it sell what MS thought it sell as far as units go. Titanfall, IMO, falls more in line with CoD and Halo. It will sell consoles and it will sell units. MS will either end up paying EA a ton to keep it exclusive or say the hell with it and buy up Respawn.

But it's not even necessarily up to them.. EA might even have the option to control sequels for a certain timespan.. Respawn may choose to go multi-platform either way, etc,etc.,etc.

They could have been working this out for months but I think that respawn had an asking price really high and MS didn't want to pay. I have a feeling with all the resolution and PS4 multiplatform games looking and running better talk that MS had to pay that price.

Well Microsoft stepped up that's for sure. They must be really feeling the pressure right now, wonder what that cost them?

Notice that it is the CFO (Chief Financial Officer) who confirmed it. Moneyhatted by MS confirmed.
Yeah it;s not like Sony didn't buy Naughty Dog and so on...oh wait.

I keep wondering if this means only the first Titanfall or just the whole franchise. Then again...when they announced Gears 1 was exclusive, did anyone question if the others would turn mulitplatform?

Are we certain that this is for pure business reasons, and does not having something to do with Azure? I mean we already have confirmation that large parts of this game exist in the cloud, in more ways that just being a basic MP server.

Could this be the first game of more to follow that become Microsoft exclusives because of Azure?

Feeling pressure? Think its Sony who's feeling the walls crumble abit. First the BF4 comparison video exposed an ugly truth about the PS4 hype train, then this news breaks today. Think Sony better hurry up with DriveClub eh?

The game is on xbox 360 and PC not just Xbox One.

That is why I called it a Microsoft exclusive. I am asking the question if its exclusivity has nothing to do with business reasons (Microsoft paid Respawn to keep it exclusive) but for technical reasons... For example, Sonys cloud is incompatible with Azure, and doesn't do the same thing anyhow...

You guys are hilarious. This deal just happened for no other reason than MS is sweating.

PCs are not automatically set up to use Azure by default like xbox one. All EA games goes through origin and EA servers especially the pc games. Do not make the assume that the PC version will be using Azure.

The catch 22 here might be that the game doing really well has Respawn salivating for multiplatform sales.

You lose out on potentially millions of sales.

And as the user based grow lost sales, and thus the cost of exclusivity goes up.

It's just not as simple as MS "choosing" to keep it exclusive.

Lol at MS moneyhatting EA and them not even running it by Respawn first. Must have backed up several Brinks.

Since I'm no fanboy [for either console], I'll just say that this is interesting.

Also, when Zampella tweets "Just not the first Titanfall", the operative word there is first. Meaning Titanfall 2 guaranteed multiplatform.

Ohhh man sonygaf is blowing up lol..2 days in a row BF4 looks as good and now this.

How pissed do you think MS and EA are right now with Vince coming out and pooing on their deal right after it's announced? This is gonna be good.

apparently Respawn didn't know either......
lol, looks like MS made EA an offer they couldn't refuse.

Well it's still coming to the 360, which has a very large userbase as of now.

I'm glad Microsoft acknowledges the talent of their studio like this, but I as a future PS4 owner will be saddened by this.
