Titanfall 1 as a lifelong exclusive. Sequels undetermined.

Wait a minute, is Respawn going to start getting screwed over by EA? They'll feel right at home again, just like they were still working at Infinity Ward.
Start? It official now.

Not like EA is really any different than Activision when it comes to this kind of thing.

Yeah, another huge miss for CBOAT...why isn't he banned from GAF yet lol

Guy is pretty much a joke right now.

Yeah, but they've kind of been playing up the "lesser of two evils" angle since the s*** went down with Activision and Infinity Ward. Which makes sense, if I was in their PR department, I'd do the same thing.

They aren't owned by EA.

They chose EA as a partner for their first game.

Considering their tweets it's pretty clear EA only owns publishing rights to the first game. Respawn can go elsewhere.

lol you guys are ridiculous. CBOAT is supposedly a MS insider. Sure EA pulled the wool over Respawn's eyes, but if you think this little deal between EA and MS started and was finalized recently then you are kidding yourselves. Guaranteed MS has been working at this for months with EA to solidify publishing only on MS platforms, if CBOAT was truly a MS insider then he would have known that. Remember he is a MS insider, not a Respawn insider, and even if these events started after his original timed exclusive claim you would think that an insider in the know would update and say plans have changed, MS EA deal for lifelong exclusivity on the first game. CBOAT's a joke, either he didn't know and therefore his insider info is worth squat, or he did know and didn't post positive X1 info and that puts his integrity in question.

Are you serious? Obviously this deal was just made. He never claimed to be a prognosticator, just insider.
He's a joke, nothing more. This isn't the only thing he's been wrong about since E3. Also i doubt this deal just happened a few seconds ago, these things usually take a bit of time to iron out. Contracts and such. Sucks about Respawn not getting the heads up but that's what happens when you deal with EA.

I never saw them as the "lesser of two evils" even when Activision was public enemy no 1 to most gamers. I have never forgotten how EA helped to f*** over the Dreamcast among other things, and didn't buy their games for a while until i finally relented with Burnout 3.

Yeah it;s not like Sony didn't buy Naughty Dog and so on...oh wait.

I keep wondering if this means only the first Titanfall or just the whole franchise. Then again...when they announced Gears 1 was exclusive, did anyone question if the others would turn mulitplatform?

How is buying a studio like buying a game?

Start? It official now.

Not a good look when the announcement twitter from the developer ends with a frown. Odd they would keep them out of the loop. I wonder how much they are getting and how much was left on the table? Seems they can't catch a break -- no matter who they work with.

To be fair it sounds like he was right and recent events changed things

How could he had known when the developer didn't even know until very recently? His prediction was right. Things obviously changed. Otherwise at E3 we would have heard how Titanfall was a 360 exclusive for the life of the console.

This is unprecedented to have the CEO of a huge developer talking crap about their publishers deal as it happens. Bad blood is forming for sure. I could care less about your silly console wars, but you guys have to admit, this is an interesting turn of events as far as the industry goes. Usually this type of disgruntled talk comes out after a game is released not while it's in development.

I dont think anyone believes he knows every little thing Microsoft is up to. You are just being silly.

I find it odd that they would treat them so poorly(EA) at the beginning of what could be a very long and profitable relationship. Some other publisher might get very lucky with the spiritual successor to Titanfall in a year or two -- if not Titanfall 2 -- if the money isn't right.

Well unless there is another tweet i didn't see i didn't notice him actively talking crap about EA as of yet, all he said was they weren't in the loop about it. But yeah EA gonna EA. I am not sure why people are surprised to be honest.

It's weird cause these things usually take time to get done. Certainly Respawn and their team knew this was a possibility so why the frown? Maybe the guy has been a Sony fan boy his entire life who knows. Not a good look for EA if indeed they went behind their backs which I highly doubt, sorry I know their evil and all but come one! They've probably been discussing this for months and not a word to Respawn? Yeah I don't buy it. And if this is just the opinion of one developer and not Respawn as a whole then fire his ass! Or at least suspend his Twitter.

He apparently knew enough to know that TF was a timed exclusive, so he should have also known that it wasn't anymore. He doesn't get a pass because things change, either he is in a position in the know, or he isn't and the stuff he spouts is BS.

He's not a dev insider, he's supposed to be a MS insider, so yeah he should have known things were changed if he was in a position to know it was timed exclusive in the first part. I said before, either he isn't in a position to really know and just spouts bs, or he is and purposefully held back positive X1 insider info..in which gaf his info is skewed and shouldn't be taken seriously.

what if titanfall becomes annualized, then the 1 year exclusive kind of still stands.

and why is vincent making comments on working on the PS4 in the future what if EA/MS cut another deal.

Good job MS. Titanfall looks great. Among my most anticipated 2014 games along with The Division. On one hand, kill enemies by scaling buildings. On the other hand, kill enemies by going inside buildings. lol. The best of interior and exterior extermination!

Abbie Heppe expressed a serene sort of confidence with her Studio's relationship with Microsoft back at E3, so no big surprise. Microsoft nailed down a signature franchise the previous two generations, one that just blows people away, then builds around it. Seems to work well for them.

High chances of an amended deal if TF does well

maybe, if EA pressures them. I really dont know how much power respawn has over the ip.
According to an interview with Vince a few months back they own the IP, and remain completely independent and in creative control. What looks like happened is MS and EA struck a deal for exclusive publishing rights.
