Titanfall 2 MP tech test 8/19

Solid game. Much more polished than TF1.

- Better, smoother visuals and frame rate. Some frame rate issues (lots of explosions and getting into the escape ship), but much better than TF 1 already
- Don't know what res the X1 version is, but it looks better and cleaner than TF 1's 792p
- Faster lobbies, and maps load faster
- Lobbies are borked though. As the warning said on load up, multiplayer lobbies and parties can be messed ad they were. Going from match to match in a party is messed. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't
- You can create a "network" which we did. Choose gamers for your clan, and set a clan tag
- Plyas more like CoD. Not as much people wallrunning and such. I's estimate the footspeed is maybe 10-20% slower. Auto-sprint is still an option in the menus
- Only 2 maps and 3 modes
- Maps are pretty open, so LOTS of snipers. The complete opposite of TF1
- Time to Kill is CoD-ish. 3-4 bullets or 1 good sniper shot. Starting AR and LMGs worked great
- Some familiar guns and grenade launchers
- Some gameplay additions like kits, spider mines, holographic dummy, etc...
- Bounty Hunter is like TDM, but you you get $$$ the more kills you get. AI grunts and titans come on the map, if you kill it, you get more $$$. 10 minute matches. Not sure what the winning $$$ amount is as it always went to 10 minutes. Definitely not $4,000 team $$$. Might be $5-6,000. You can then deposit the $$$ in these banks and get more $$$
- Hardpoint is Domination
- 8 vs 8 pilots only
- Titans are pre-loaded, but you can choose something to do with battery choice. After a titan is killed I think it leaves a battery on the map (green icon)
- Unless you are a good sniper, camping won't get you far as getting titans requires you doing kills and objectives. No "free titan" after 3 minutes of doing nothing. You have to earn a titan. If you go around doing stuff, you should get 2-3 titans a game. If you do nothing.... (like I did one match)... zero titans
- Doesn't seem to be lots of AI grunts. In TF1, I'd get 30 AI kills a game (sometimes 40-50), didn't see many
- AI grunts are definitely smarter. They run and take cover
- No health marker for the escape ship so you don't know how damaged it is.... hoping they add it

Plays like butthole. It's already hated by most TF fans.
Probably because they did bad in it. I did OK, some good matches, some lousy matches.

Snipers were aggravating though, but after 4-5 matches, you get used to them and run a perimeter more or toss electric smoke grenades.

This game feels different due to the extra smoothness and fast time to kill. In TF 1, frame rate can be a bit hitchy, and it would probably take an extra 2-3 bullets to kill with the starting AR. So a gamer could get away easier by jumping away and healthy regenning.

In TF2, it's harder to escape due to fewer bullets needed to die and jumping away is tougher as the aggressor has a smoother frame rate to pick a fleeing gamer in mid-air jump.

I'm liking it.

I just played for about two hours, usually come out 1st or 2nd. Still feel this game is two steps back compared to the first.

Just don't understand why they designed maps that detrimentally effects the core game mobility.

Don't understand why a map as big as homestead doesn't have a crap ton of zip lines like training ground did which was a big map with a lot of open space.

I don't understand why they designed boomtown with obstructions that gets on your way of traversing at least half the map like you could angel city.

Respawn is going for more casual gameplay and mass appeal. In TF 1, if you were a lousy gamer, you'd get hardly any kills. Even though everyone gets free titans, they'd still do bad.

In TF 2, it's more CoD-ish, so even lousy gamers can get some 3 bullet kills here and there.

They've also made big open maps allowing more varied gameplay..... snipers, which there were hardly any in TF 1. Lots of shooting gamers love sniping, so it opens the game up for more people.

Things like zip lines and turrets seem gone (unless they are in other maps). I don't think casual gamers cared about doing them. So they might as well take them out.

I know they dumbed down the game for the CoD crowd. That pisses me off.

Disagree.

If you are playing it like COD then it will feel like COD. Just like TF1 felt like COD if you played it like COD.

I put in a good couple of hours last night and really started to find a momentum groove around the map. Traversing the map in this game is different, but it isn't dumbed down at all, it is just less obvious. Instead of huge structures with obvious wall running paths you now have little alley ways and structures giving way to huge spaces with few wall running points but those points are still there. Traversing a map in this game is about learning routes and not the easy peasy TF1 where everything is a route for the casual masses.

I have been playing a lot of Pilot v Pilot because I don;t like Amped Hardpoint or Bounty Hunter all that much. So my time in a Titan has been limited, but I will say that I like the new abilities. That Laser ability on Ion is awesome.

Weapons, eh. It seems the assault rifle is the king of the battlefield once again. I tried using all weapon types but they all seem to fail in comparison to the assualt rifle. I do like that energy based LMG though, but you have to lead targets due to the slower projectile speed and it takes a bit of practice to be efficient and deadly with it.

Overall I am really enjoying it. Give me back attrition and I could play all day long.

As for testing tech; All I can say is that this test has been rock solid. No disconnects, no obvious lag, and no obvious FPS drops.

when people said it became COD i was like "yeah yeah typical internet" but after playing it i kinda agree. its more COD than Titanfall 1 thats for sure

there is no way i am buying this now

There is a serious amount of negative feedback on the game changes and I agree with quite a few of them.

- Put the timer back in. The whole point of the game is to play with two modes, titans and pilots. I've matches where there is maybe one titan in the entire game.
- Bring the AI back. They are practically non existent.
- Allow chassis customization of titans. Pre built titans are kind of boring.
- Please have Attrition in the full release. I have zero interest in Pilot v Pilot and there are no AI in Hardpoint for some reason so it's bascially Pilot v Pilot as well. Bounty Hunt is just meh...

It just hit me that I have only been in a Titan like two times . I wish they did include arbitration so I could spend more time in one to get some good feedback. Something I did notice though maybe it's just me but I can take a Titan out a lot faster than I could in Titan fall one . So they definitely have changed something there.

They are decreasing the time it takes to get a titan in Hardpoint today.

Are you playing this on PS4? Haven't seen you online playing.

Wasn't around last night. But was also in offline mode, silly me. I'm playing it on X1.

Exactly. Too me that's a critical problem. The game is meant to have two combat modes but its very pilot based now. I think this is one of the core things making it seem like COD. I miss the the point at the end of a battle where every one would have a titan and the combat would just be insane!

Finally played some last night, and so far I'm not liking it all that much. I don't know what it is about the movement, it's almost like your running in molasses, you still move pretty fast but it's almost like you have something holding you back in the fine movements. It's just off to me. Sucks you can't customize Titans too.

It does seem easier to take out Titans. Is there a way to shake off mounted Pilots like in the first game, or is it automatic damage to the Titan when you jump on?

How about put some huge buildings in? These one and two story 2 bedroom houses are laughable. A T1 cluster missle to clear out spaces doesn't even look to be in the game. Allow campers and snipers but put their positions across the map. The choke points and terrain that's says no wall running allowed is brutal.

I'm really not liking the lack of Titan customization or the way you have charge your abilities with kills.

I didn't give it alot of time, but I had to disconnect. I didn't like the feel. I'll try again this weekend and give it a 2nd chance. Yeah, it didn't feel like TF1.

That is because most people have no clue about the battery mechanic.

When you rodeo an enemy titan you rip out one of its battery packs which depletes some of its health. What people haven't figured out is that the battery goes into your inventory. If you hop aboard a friendly titan you basically give them the battery which in turn increases their health.

Batteries also drop on the ground when a titan explodes.

That's cool. I was wondering what that huge green glowing canister was on people's back. Is there no way to stop peeps from jacking your battery though?

Electric smoke.

Also, if you kill the pilot that took your battery you can get it back.

I got the first game for like $10 early last year when I got my Xbox. I enjoyed it for what it was and spent most of my time just doing co-op matches. That said, I really have no interest in playing this game or any of the other big shooters coming out this fall. I do think they made a big mistake releasing this a week after (or before?) Battlefield though. Maybe the kids don't care and can juggle multiple different feeling shooters but I know if I was interested in this and Battlefield I'd have to pass on one of them.

I'm playing the first Titanfall. Game takes way more skill than TF2 lol.

It's EA.

Their mandate going back 10 years is to always ensure their shooters release before Call of Duty. CoD sales might be declining, but it's still the big fish. And EA knows that. If they released their shooters after CoD, it would be a sales disaster.

They did the same thing with their MoH games too. Always about 2-3 weeks before CoD. And BFBC games were even earlier. I think they released in the summer.

BF1 comes out 2 weeks before CoD, and TF2 comes out 1 week before CoD.

BF1 = Oct 21
TF2 = Oct 28
CoD = Nov 4

Will be interesting to see how CoD sales hold up. The series is on the decline and you have two big shooters releasing just weeks before it. Gears 4 is also Oct 11.

CoD will do fine. Black ops 3 sold over 20 million. The next CoD is giving us MW1. That's like printing money for them.

Every year we get the same doom and gloom for CoD, and every year, it sells better than most games.

Edit...it actually sold over 22 million, and was the best selling game of 2015. I'd be willing to bet my right nut that CoD this year will be the best selling game again.

For those of you who haven't tested the demo yet, I'd say TF2 has a very "Black Ops 3 kind of feel" when it comes to the standard foot soldier gameplay. The auto-sprint, foot speed and jet pack boosting all feel similar. And TF2 has CoD-ish 3-4 bullet kills (excl snipes). TF1 was more like 5-7 bullet kills. The foot soldier gameplay in TF1 had a more floaty kind of feel. TF2 has more weight to your player, so it feels more like a traditional shooter.

These two maps have very little wallrunning opportunity. Like BO3, wallrunning is there, but not a ton. TF1 had lots of people bouncing around walls and buildings. And as opposed to TF1, these big maps have many snipers, something every CoD game has in some amount. TF1 had almost no snipers.

If I had to describe TF2's test demo...

Black Ops 3 + mechs + more sci-fi setting

What will change the feeling is if the games other maps are more traditionally geared to TF1 where it's more buildings and vertical gameplay. But if the other maps are kind of similar in scope and feel, it will be very Black Ops 3-ish.... with mechs.

Shiit you're right. I thought this series was trending down, but looks like it's still cracking 20M+
