Lot's of talk of new IPs from general gaming interweb crowds...

MS doesn't really need new IPs. They have a great IP portfolio if they give their franchises the love they deserve.

If MS came to E3 and their only new announcements were:
  • Fable
  • Mech Assault
  • Perfect Dark
  • Battle Toads
...the fans would freak out. The entire outlook of their exclusives would change. I think MS should focus on giving their safe franchises that already have fan support the State of Decay and Crackdown treatment. Take what people liked about the previous franchises and make them next gen, next level stuff. Forget about new IPs until they max out the stuff that's already in their portfolio.

Recore budget should've gone to Kameo or Banjo. Quantum Break budget should've gone to Alan Wake. Scalebound budget could've gone to Fable-proper.

They should be smart with their risks right now. Invest in stuff that they already have built in support for.

I want to see another Crimson Skies, Phil. Cutting edge graphics with an amazing single player campaign and a gold standard multiplayer.

..and a sweet Crimson Skies XBOX Scorpio special edition console. I would buy that in a heartbeat.

Fans would like these announcements

Others would say

"They don't own that studio making that game FFS MS"
"I want new IP"
"X won't sell"

Direct Physics - Microsoft's secret sauce?

http://wccftech.com/microsoft-trademarks-direct-physics-dx12/

To summarize the article: In 2015 MS bought Havok. A few days ago MS trademarked Direct Physics. This is a direct physics API integrated into DX12.

As you all know, DX12 is integrated right into the Scorpio's GPU. This appears to be MS and AMD's answer to Nvidia's PhysX.

PhysX demos are the most next gen thing I've seen. I think they're more next gen than 4K honestly. Please see the demos of games using PhysX and keep in mind these physics were scaled up from games that are playable on OG Xbox One.

As someone who's complained that physics and AI have been stagnant for well over a decade, this is extremely exciting. Considering that MS just trademarked Direct Physics, I would expect an unveiling soon. If 3rd parties are willing to scale up physics on Scorpio the way they've been willing to scale them on Nvidia videocards, this could make Scorpio games look demonstrably better even on 1K TVs.

Thanks for that. However, I've heard several people lately refer to 1080p as 1K, including Phil Spencer. It's really basically 2K. I'll explain where this number actually comes from.

The whole 2K/4K thing has been a motion picture standard since that term started, measuring the horizontal resolution; where video has always gone by vertical resolution. (Think 480i for NTSC or 540p for PAL, next 720p and 1080p) Anyway, the real cinema 2K is actually 2048W X 1080H. Full HD actually had the same vertical res, and is 1920W X 1080H. That's only 80 pixels less than 2,000 high. 2,000=2K. It's just an about number anyway, since cinema's DCI 2K actually goes over by 48 pixels.

So, every time someone mentions 2K as some much higher standard than 1080p, it makes me shake my head. They are virtually the same thing, with movies having a bit wider resolution, a bit more like Cinemascope ratio.

I think phil says that because 4k = 8 million pixels, so 1080p is 1k.

If they gave Fable to the right team it could be good.
Microsoft should poach some talent from Sony to direct the series rebirth.
What they need to poach is their (PD and Evolution) code for lighting and relfections, damn it!

Yeah, I think people do get the "4K is 4 X1080p" thing correct, however 4K is only 2 X the horizontal res (1920W), which is where the term 2K and 4K comes from. (2X vertical and 2X horizontalmakes it 4X, overall) Also note that UHD 4K is not even 4,000 pixels wide, it's 3,840. Yes, even the TV industry doesn't understand the term that they borrowed from the motion picture industry!

Anyway, 1080p is the EXACT SAME DISTANCE from real DCI 2K as UHD 4K is to actual cinema DCI 4K.If anything, 2K as 1080p is actually MORE correct than 4K, since 1920 is a closer number to 2K!

I also think people get it mixed up with Mega Pixels, which I actually wish would have been a standard term for everything to do with a digital image. Too bad 3 industries could not make a single terminology for basically the same darn thing.

Direct Physics - HAVOK Rebranded?

I think it's supposed to be Havok evolved. Like the Jaguar.

Hoping it's something like PhysX or better. Not only does PhysX improve the dynamic interactions with the game world to enhance gameplay, it adds some cool visual effects.

MS needs to spruce up their 1st/2nd party game engines. No reason they should be lagging behind multiplat game engines technically.

Hey. I liked Brute Force as well! Where have you been all my life? We can be an official support group now!!

That might hold water for movies, but doesn't really relate to gaming at all. 2K gaming is 2560x1440P, which gives plenty more over 1920x1080P.

I'd like to see it happen. I really enjoyed the game. Make an epic story, larger cast, huge missions, online coop, multiplayer..keep the humor dry..sign me up.

big chance as it was probably those same 2 that wanted Voodoo Vince.

Think MS should just try to please everyone and build a better OG Xbox emulator.

Its silly that Scorpio has 4GB dedicated for an OS, but emulating a console with 64mb total so hard.

Well I would imagine that ram amount isn't the issue. I mean they have to try and get software designed for different architecture to work well via software.

If you look at early emulators on PC, a platform with vastly more power, they are usually very resource heavy and riddled with issues.

Uh....I don't think so. Besides it would be wasted on me with my console sitting under my projector screen. I'd never see it. If it's so important to them then put it on the screen.

Of course that panel could be for other uses like start up and other console cues we don't know about yet.
