One of my biggest peeves is when a reflection is only partially drawn due to the screen space reflection implementation, and you end up seeing it blurred into a sky box.Do not agree with that. The RTX has so much subtle accuracy in the lighting and reflections. Looks quite better to me. I can't wait for console to be able to do that. Especially being able to see someone behind you in a reflection!

Some of the shots with RTX could potentially look worse, but it's because it either hasn't been fine-tuned, or the reality of what the scene is doesn't lend itself to more dramatic contrasts.
I'm playing through Spiderman at the moment, and if that game had raytracing, it would be so quiche! But some of it would probably also look less photogenic.
I mean you can be right but we need to see what they offerIf PS5 is 10 TF i think X2 will be 12 TF....
Not sure if they can sell a 12 TF with a improved cpu and more ram for $400...
All the RTX stuff so far is 1080p, and it seems extremely unoptimized, or counter-productive to image quality at the moment.Yeah, it kinda depends on what impresses you. I for one LOVE high-end rendering, but I can see how a 4k image can look just as impressive in other ways. I don't think the RTX stuff is over 1080p, which will definitely have less an impact at a glance. To me though, the more accurate reflections- seeing things reflected from off camera adds so much depth. There is also the more natural interplay of light and shadow as well as how the shaders react to the light.
Yeah, no. Gonna disagree here. Especially considering that MS had this entire generation to learn from and are under new management. We've seen Sony falter in the past, the bad news for MS is that Sony at their worst was still better than MS at their best. The 360 so far is MS's best generation, the X1 no longer matches it in sales at this point in it's lifecycle. MS and Sony basically tied last gen even though MS had a year head start and a price advantage the entire time, which means Sony basically beat MS when you adjust for years they actually went head to head. If they want to "win" next gen (meaning be the leader in sales) they need to be able to figure out how to become a global brand, so far they haven't been able to do it but maybe next gen they will, we'll see. Not being the winner doesn't mean they can't still be successful don't get me wrong, you can still make plenty of money in 2nd place but everyone wants to be at the top of the industry they are in and based on how things have gone for them so far it looks like that's going to be harder for them to accomplish than it would be for Sony.
Good question! I'm like, "Whoooooah!!"am I seeing this right?
Watch the original nVidia show. The tech is so much more than these few hand picked scenes. And it's almost entirely due to pre-rendered sky-boxes.am I seeing this right?
Agree with everything you say, but unless you're much younger than I suspect, I'd say PS1 and PS2 was both won by sony back-to-back?Yeah, no. Gonna disagree here. Especially considering that MS had this entire generation to learn from and are under new management.
None of what happened this gen will make one bit of difference as far as who will/could win next generation. It's all about who speaks the language gamers understand and can satisfy the masses with the right message. Sony has done stellar with its 1st part SP games this generation. Next gen MS will strengthen their 1st party out put, so it wont be that easy for Sony next time.
Ninentdo typically does their own thing every generation and even they've come out on top.
All of the big 3 will bring new, more powerful hardware, better games, better ecosystems etc. It's anyone's game next gen. In all my time as a gamer, (unless only one manufacturer existed) there hasn't been back-to-back victories. Sony is King this gen, to feel confident it'll be the same next gen is naive if you've followed this industry.
2 more TF may not manifest as much of an improvement, though. A few more FPS? Slightly better shadows? I think it's fair to expect a 4k-ish standard, but I do wonder what the big change-up will be. Maybe still offer the 4k/30 vs 1080/60fps model? I think I'll be more interested in which one crunches physics better, maybe. Diminishing returns are real for visuals (not that there isn't anywhere to go, but even old games are looking great at 4k), so we need to see a push in AI and physics.
Agree. For me to upgrade, there is going to need to be a demonstrable jump. Whether that’s something like raytracing, the maturity of VR, crazy physics and/or AI, I guess we’ll need to see. I’d love to see improvements in all of these areas but am realistic that we may really be approaching the law of diminishing returns. With forward compatibility (i.e no forced generational upgrade) you are really going to see side by side if it’s worth it.2 more TF may not manifest as much of an improvement, though. A few more FPS? Why be a potato? The colour palette is f***ing ugly. For the entirety of the game shown so far.
Reviewers will wank over the direction, but it's still fug.
HDR in 10,000 shades of green, yellow, Gray and murky green is still fug. And every scene has a weird green-gray haze.
man I wish my TV had more than one 4K hook up I have my pro hooked up to that one and my One X hooked up to the only other free one (my cable box is hooked into the the other). I just need to hook up my home theater receiver but I have been so busy with work I hardly have time to play my games let alone hook up the surround sound lol
Enhanced texture resolution? FINALLY, one of the best things X can do that no one seems to use
