Sony: How to fumble a launch

COD: Ghosts
Contrast (free from PS+ at launch)
Resogun (free from PS+ at launch)
Killzone: Shadow Fall
NBA 2K14
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag
Battlefield 4
Lego Marvel Super Heroes

Trine 2 Complete Story
Knack
The Playroom
Just Dance 2014
Outlast (PS+)
Don't Starve: Console Edition (still need to start but downloaded already)

Would play most of these, but i can't justify the launch price of these games. I don't want them that much.

Yeah, agreed. Luckily there was a deal back in Fall in Canada where I could trade in any 360/PS3 game for the PS3 version of COD:G, BF4 and AC4. Otherwise not sure I would've paid full price for the big 3. So I just did that and upgraded them all to the PS4 version for $10 each at EBGames. Knack I borrowed from a friend, Just Dance 2014 I got for $25 from a Target sale.

You should try Resogun, it's addictive. Contrast was a refreshing platformer using shadow elements and Outlast was another great survival horror game. They're free with PS+! If you are subscribed, I see no reason to not download any of the free titles each month.

Who knows, but it seems like both sides fumbled in one way or another. Sony just seems to be taking less criticism for something MS was given a ton of heat for the past few years in the lack of variety in games and overall exclusives line-up. Yet it's been their biggest weakness and until they reveal more, they're future exclusive line-up vs MS' still come across as pale in comparison I think. The better hardware really has given them a win though. That seems to be what PS4 fans are really championing.

I think a big reason sony isn't taking a beating for it is the fact that they did support the ps3. Microsoft pretty much abandoned 360 in comparison. That allowed them to have more xb1 launch games though.

I really don't get this crap people keep spouting that we don't have games to play, this was the best console launch line up (both the PS4 and X1) that we've ever had IMO. Yes we had ports which we always have at launch but they weren't sloppy, AC4 was a better game on next gen then current gen, BF4 was a better game (when it worked) on next gen than current gen etc. Yes the exclusives may not have captured everyone's hearts but launch exclusives usually are mediocre. I've had plenty of games to play since launch day so I really don't understand this way of thinking.

I guess it boils down to taste. I've been playing AC4 but I don't think it's that great of a game. The combat is beyond boring and tbh I enjoyed Ryse more than AC4. BF4 is the only multiplayer game worth a damn right now as well and multiplayer is big for me. It's the only game I have to keep coming back to besides Ki and Ki doesn't have long legs.

I would have been super happy for a Dead or Alive or Soul Calibur. Armored core or anything Japanese and online for that matter lol. I wish capcom would have did something different instead of working on DR3.

He's back and his English is still broken. Welcome back Jackie!

But yeah.. there's not many games for the PS4 right now but you can bet your ass they're coming. When has Sony ever dropped the ball on games? That's their staple. The PS3 had a slow launch. How'd that turn out?
No, I'm a wrestler that likes to role play my PS/MS hate on opposing websites.

That's old news. I post what i post here at PSU now. When i do make my one or two posts over there per week now. I kept my story straight just to keep you guys happy. Because, ya know, it's impossible to like both consoles. We've got to pick sides and fight the good fight. Right Jackie?

I guess because I have been playing this liste of games

HOTD Overkill
Metro
Payday 2
Metro
Papo and Yo
Puppeteer
Rain
Brothers
Enslaved
Bioshock
Amy
Lone Survivor
Borderlands 2
Binary Domain

VS

KZ
COD

I get it, old systems have more games and all that jazz but I thought people were tired of that BF, AC formula?

This is most of the games I have played the last 3 or 4 months, and I haven't gotten to sleeping dogs, Dead Island, Killer is Dead yet

Still have Shadows of the Danmed to play, demois s hawt, right banks.

It isn't really that bad that PS4 is lacking, there are games to play. Just bad in a business sense.

Not sure, I have been accused of being a fanboy of so many things, I'm not sure which side I'm even fighting for ?

Yeah, terrible business moves by Sony. That's why they're leading in console sales. The games are coming. If you don't like what's out there now you'll never be happy. It's like people want these companies to just go back to the stone age. Might as well put out new 2D games at 15 fps because obviously 3D games are trash.

That's why I'm not too worried about not jumping onto the new consoles right now. My backlog is seemingly limitless. Just finished Lococycle not too long ago, been loving Rayman Legends, picked up the first Deathsmiles again and I've been enjoying that, and I just started Bully. I'll be getting Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare on Tuesday as well for $10 with the games I put on it. Then Titanfall and South Park Stick of Truth are around the corner as well. Not to mention the new Fable Anniversary game just came out. It's a big year for both the 360 and PS3 as it's probably the last year that either console will be supported in this fashion. Honestly, there's never been a better time to enter the new gen late.

I'd bet everyone's backlog is limitless at this point. There's games from the Xbox/PS2/Gamecube era that i'd still like to play. Anyone complaining about no games to play either has no life and plays games all day or they're just complaining to complain. Doesn't add up.

Getting the PS4 is going to be gaming suicide for me. I barely have enough time to play the consoles i already have. Plus i'm upgrading my graphics card on my PC tomorrow so it can run FFXIV better. I already play FFXI.. I don't know what i'm thinking getting into another MMO. Time to quit my job. If only i was rich. :(

I have to disagree with the OP regarding the xbox one. I think it has a really good launch line up. Forza, DR3, and Ryse are all games I want to play. They also have Titanfall in March. Add to that other games like Fifa, AC4, BF4.

The PS4 though I have to agree. Outside the same 3rd party games it has nothing for me. Infamous looks good though but doesn't release till end of March.

As for RPG's. They're coming. The division, witcher 3, dragon age. All supposed to be this year.

Neither had a great launch IMO with the X1 having the best exclusive with Killer Instinct and the PS4 having the best version of the best next gen launch game BF4. I feel in a way there has been a drought with both consoles, but considering how well both are selling expect Many surprise showings or announcements @ E3.

I do agree with much of what you are saying though Jackie_Fhan.

The Xbox One had the greatest launch lineup of games in history in my opinion. I loved Ryse, i've put over 60 hours into Forza 5. I'll probably play Dead Rising 3 next. You know it was a good launch when i haven't touched Call of Duty: Ghosts on the One yet. I'm the guy who calls it the pinnacle of first person shooters and i don't play it because i've got other games to play. Figured i'd put it off until i play these awesome exclusives. And Titanfall is coming in 2 weeks? What the hell.

Honestly TD, I don't know why you're buying two consoles out of the gate. $400 is still a ton of money and your upgrading the PC? You really should just wait on one of the two and save some of that money. Especially considering what's coming out this year.

Are they? I'd be shocked if Witcher 3 made it this year. Lots of great stuff in the pipeline, but I see so much of it being delayed into 2015. Even Halo 5 has a strong chance of being delayed.

Nah, witcher 3 will make it. The most likely one to be Pushed is the Division.

I should, but i can't. Just got my tax return so i have the money to blow on a PS4. Whenever i can find one. Trust me, i wish i could control myself. If i had something better to spend that money on i'd hold on to it but i don't.

Plus there's still games i want to play on the PS4 now. Killzone: Shadow Fall. I'll try Knack. Resogun looks good and of course Infamous: Second Son is coming next month. Once i saw that game in action i told myself i had to have the PS4 now.

Just be careful with that money man. Save some of it.

I don't how far along The Division is, but W3 is something I'm not very optimistic about for a release date in 2014. Especially since it's going to be on three seperate platforms.

From some of the articles that have come it would seem the division is still very early in dev time, but they do have 2 dev studious working on it. So will have to wait and see. I hope it makes it as it is my most anticipated game.

According to CDPR back in January, Wicther 3 was still on track for 2014. So I'm not worried.

I bought the last DOA game that came out and took it back a couple of days later, they need to update that series a bit. It's shallow and there aren't enough new characters in it to keep it interesting IMO. The point of what I was saying though is there were a lot of types of games that were of a high level of quality out for launch ports or not, Shooting fans had a lot to choose from, people who like action games had something to choose from, major sports leagues covered, racing games covered. I don't think there has ever been a console launch that had this much variety on day one before so that's why this "there are no games to play" stuff cracks me up.

Which one had the line up that was most appealing isn't something that can be said with certainty, that's obviously up to individual taste, I couldn't care less about Forza 5, I was over DR after part 2 stunk and Ryse seems like a rental but that's just my view, others likely couldn't give two craps about KZ or Knack and that's totally fine. The bottom line is I think if you put either the PS4 launch titles or X1 launch titles up against the launch libraries of any other console in history I think we'd find this generation started off with the most variety of them all.

One can choose to buy a system when there are more games, so I do not see the issue. Now that PS4 is MIA until maybe early April locally, having games or not did not bother me, as I can't get a PS4 anyway.

Also, a lot of developers are probably on the fence, & are uncertain if its worth the effort to develop for next gen. With healthy sales of PS4 as well as XBOX one, I think we can expect great games to more regularly in the next future.

If that's the case, then I''m very surprised. Didn't expect W3 to be this far along.

It is a PC game first. PC is lead platform. With the next-gen hardware being so similar porting should be easier than ever. Also, it still likely has 7-9 months before it launches. I doubt it will come before September.

I definitely regret buying both ps4 and xb1 at launch. I should have waited on the xb1. Which is weird because Ki was the game I wanted the most but I ended up spending all my time with bf4 and I was never even interested in bf before.

Exactly, if you don't like the line up at launch you can wait it's as easy as that. It's really hard to call the PS4 launch a "fumble" when it broke records and continues to sell well.

Well you can't call a launch a fumble if it's a success, it makes no sense.
