Sony: How to fumble a launch

I never played Ryse, and I have ZERO interest in it. I had already spoke with illiniguy about this as well. He finished the game, thought it was beautiful...but lacked depth.

I CANNOT play hack and slash games. So Ryse will never grace my console..unless I got it free.

What else you got?

That's actually surprising.

The thing I like about the Show...isn't the graphics...isn't necessarily the gameplay....but my god...the game is so in depth....with rosters and player customization and season's, it's mind boggling. I haven't seen a sports game with so much depth.
That's realy important in sports game, and how it plays is probably in line with most important. It is too bad that sports character models (espcially in a baseball game where everything is about animation and basic visuals (very little physics) is still lacking so much. Why the character models can't look well above Beyond's is... beyond me. Must be a talent issue.

Those stadiums are accounting for a good deal of the processing power.

I thought this thread was finished the other night. Guess not, let's finish it now.

Yeah, the PS4's launch lineup was less than appealing to most people. That's not the point though. Sony did everything right coming into this gen. They had to keep the hardware cheap but powerful at the same time. They did that. They had to make the hardware developer friendly. They did that. They had to improve the controller and PSN. They did all of that. Mission accomplished, as you can see by the sales.

It's like everyone hating on Microsoft for their reveal. Yeah, it looked bad in the eyes of gamers because all they talked about was TV, movies, and sports but that was the whole point. Show the machine, show us what it does. The games come later. Agree with it or not. That's how things should be handled in my opinion.

You must have missed the half the thread where people were already saying what you said, you missed the fumble though. The games people wanted Day 1 through the first few months. I didn't really see many people pumped for COD, BF, NFS. Ho-hum. Solid titles in their own right, but not something you want to buy a PS4 specifically for?

MS's idea of sign in play anywhere is solid and not much different from steam, just their core base is a different crowd.

Sorry if i missed what people said the last couple pages that i said on the first page already. I didn't bother reading. I just saw a few messages and shook my head and responded.

I don't know what people are expecting. The next Mario or Halo at launch? Ever stop to think that Mario and Halo were special because they were once in a life time experiences? Maybe next gen something ground breaking will come out at launch. Maybe not. Why does it matter when you know the games are coming in the end?

KInda sad that the only reason X1 "won" the laugh lineup with it's terrible launch list is because it was being judged against PS4's abysmal launch list.

I wonder if hardware companies will ever get it in their heads to launch when new-gen software is ready instead of when the hardware is.

I have had plenty to play on X1, but of course it comes down to what kind of games you like. Forza and BF4 alone take up a ton of my time. If you aren't into BF, I can see there being little else to play. I wouldn't have gotten a launch console had BF4 not been coming out.

Had I bought an X1 at launch, Forza would have been the only game I can see myself still playing at this time. Ryse would have been price drop material, and I never played any Dead Rising so meh to that. On the PS4 though I had a blast with Killzone, but I'm mainly a single player gamer so I've been done with that. Knack is price drop material as well.

So I guess X1 wins because of Forza alone. If PS4 would have launched with Driveclub then it would have been a wash for me. That said, Infamous is out next month so it won't matter much longer.

You really should give Dead Rising a go one of these days. It's such a fun experience. Especially when your character grows along the way and you unlock more stuff/abilities/moves. It's a really fun game and watching the DR3 vids alone has been very fun. I'd also recommend giving LocoCycle a try, yeah it got bad reviews, but I know the people who loved the game really do love it. It's a love it or hate it type of deal I think.

Guess it matters cause we have the box now.

Twisted Pixel won't be getting any money from me until I get a Maw sequel.

Well, technically you don't have to since it's on the 360 and you can just do a trial and see for yourself if it's something you'd like. Eh, do what you want. Just my opinion that you're hitting the ignore button on some genuinely good games.

I'll take Killzone:SF over Riiiidge Racerrr any day. The RR series was played out totally by the time it hit 360.
KZ:SF has a great campaign, class-based tactical online play...RR is arcade drifting and shallow compared to other racing games.

I played the hell out of Ridge Racer on PSP when it launched.

Too bad Namco tried the micro transaction route with RR ever since. And what the hell was with that Ridge a Racer spinoff on PS360?

I want RR PS1 style and look overall. PS3 version just didn't feel right to me overall. R4 was a good change as well.

The same style would be amazing. Even if some of it was a solid pseduo kind of thing. The IQ could be out of this world perhaps. Making it look near CG but with solid cel shaded with a touch of texture would be pretty interesting. Still love RR1 even with it's one track set up.

I think both consoles had a fairly weak launch lineup. However, Sony and MS both thought Watch Dogs would be part of the launch, which would have been a big boost to both.

yeah I was saying previously how sony must have had a lot of plans for more (driveclub, more indies being ready, ps2, and a earlier infamous) I'm sure before e3 last year they were planning to have infamous hit earlier than march, and maybe even have the order hit by may.

If sony "fumbled" this launch imagine the shortages of PS5 if they nail that one... :hehe:
