MY breakdown (very much inline with ...... the controversial document we had, on architectural diagram, not in interpretation)
VI R9 290x basically like GPU splitted into 4 Smaller GPU to give more balanced design
What does all this mean?
What does all this mean?
lolIt means not only is Jesus powering the cloud, he's also the lead architect on the X1 GPU.
it means very much inline withWhat does all this mean?
That is not what he was saying, he was saying that x1 has features from newer amd cards, just like how x360 had unified shaders from the newer cards at the time.I tend to agree with Anand that mantle is based on the X1's low level api, but the X1 being a R9 290X? that's just ludicrous lol
Yeah, it never ends.
I will say though, with this Mantle stuff, I have a hard time believing MS doesnt have something to do with it. Especially when you look at some of the numbers.
They say MS paid AMD, what was it? 3+ billion on X1 development. Thats a lot of cash. And to put it in perspective AMD's marketcap is 2.7 Billion, Enterprise value (according to Yahoo Finance) is 3.8 Billion.
So MS invested about as much cash in developing the X1 as AMD is worth. That is nuts and there has to be a pretty tight connection moving forward.

What’s not being said, but what becomes increasingly hinted at as we read through AMD’s material, is not just that Mantle is a low level API, but rather Mantle is the low level API. As in it’s either a direct copy or a very close derivative of the Xbox One’s low level graphics API. All of the pieces are there; AMD will tell you from the start that Mantle is designed to leverage the optimization work done for games on the next generation consoles, and furthermore Mantle can even use the Direct3D High Level Shader Language (HLSL), the high level shader language Xbox One shaders will be coded against in the first place.
I know that's not what puresoul was talking about if you were referring to him, which I was referring to his X1=R9 290X comment
Ahh ok, still...sounds like hes off on a limb here again, at least Anand's speculation seemed plausibleIn general, PureSoul is hinting how the architecture layout of the X1 shares many similarities to the R9 290 architecture. Specific models or power aside, having the GCN/CU layout of the new series would mean much more under the hood of the X1 GPU.
Not saying I agree or disagree, just clarifying at a base level what he is saying.

I'm just going to stay out of the discussion then lol, I just want to play the gamesI will say only this on the subject for now...
He is onto something.
NO IT DOESN'T. Except for the number 4, those things have NOTHING to do with one another. The same way SHAPE has nothing to do with AMD's audio initiative. Except that both are audio. Once again, you are drawing connections that don't exist. THE XBOX ONE DOES NOT HAVE A $600 GPU IN IT.it means very much inline with
Count the total SIMD for X1 .....
The L2 is same splitted into 4, even X1 use Higher 256bit
But the L1 & L2 size i think is not correct
**) no way 1.3TF need 1024bit memory controller splitted
, even 7790 use 128bit, or 7850 use 256bit
their explanation also part of it are correct, but they think it is for whole GPU
when infact they only explaining the #1 section or (1/4 of the GPU)
(but the L1 L2 is not correct , the xx KB size) the Architecture is correct

Drawing connections based on unrelated, unconnected things is basically numerology. It's like Jack Van Impe reading the number of letters in Barack Obama's name, and through a series of convoluted numerical leaps, somehow connecting him to the number 666. Which I believe he has done.

This is off topic but I'd like to point out here that puresoul also thinks there is a 5000 year old flying machine in a cave in a 'time well' in Afghanistan, and 8 US soldiers have disappeared trying to recover it.
He was talking about it on misterxmedia's blog on a slow day.
See, this is exactly the kind of thing that you get dead wrong, and then use to back up a whole other set of baseless assumptions. WHY is there no way "1.3TF need 1024bit memory controller"? Perhaps that's one of the customizations MS made on their silicon to increase bandwidth. It has absolutely zero to do with the overall computational power of the chip. It is the memory controller. If they made the bus wider, it's because they wanted to increase throughput on the power they have. It does not in any way, shape, or form correlate with there actually being more power.**) no way 1.3TF need 1024bit memory controller splitted

At a base level, what he is saying is that because he can draw comparisons and indicate similarities between the two, the two ARE the same. That's the problem. In general, PureSoul is hinting how the architecture layout of the X1 shares many similarities to the R9 290 architecture. Specific models or power aside, having the GCN/CU layout of the new series would mean much more under the hood of the X1 GPU.

That's like saying "There's no way that Honda 4 cylinder engine needs fuel injection or turbo. It must have 12 cylinders."
I'm not saying that elements of some of AMD's more advanced designs didn't make it into the X1 GPU. In fact, I've been saying that this is in fact the most likely scenario: that the X1 GPU is NOT a super-powered chip, but based on older hardware with custom elements of newer hardware (like a 1024bit bus on the memory controller!!!). That is 100% NOT the same as saying that it IS entirely new hardware, and thus exactly the same as, and as strong as, the top of the line AMD GPU that costs more than the entire Xbox.
The interesting discussion is to find out what elements of newer designs, or what customizations, made it in there. Like how the 360 had bits that weren't on any retail card at the time, even though it was not entirely new or up to par with the top of the line AMD chips at the time. The interesting discussion is NOT about how every mention of new technology by AMD means that their $600 cards are somehow in the X1 and they've been keeping it secret to make sure they couldn't sell more units.
And Mrxdufus's recent posts that mirror the description of the 290X? Guess what: he's describing the 290x! Yay! That's not what's in the Xbox One, so he hasn't been vindicated or proven or ANYTHING. He's described one bit of technology, which was confirmed, but he's trying to act like he was right in saying that it was in the X1, which it wasn't, and isn't.
Please stop, please. I beg you. You are casting doubt on the ability of humans to reason and think, and I worry we may be witnessing the end of civilization.
I don't believe that's off topic at all. I believe it's indicative of a limited ability to reason, and a willingness to draw erroneous conclusions from limited evidence, based on a need to turn every coincidence or correlation into a direct line in an associative statement. This is off topic but I'd like to point out here that puresoul also thinks there is a 5000 year old flying machine in a cave in a 'time well' in Afghanistan, and 8 US soldiers have disappeared trying to recover it.

The number 12 has a 1 in it, therefore 1=12. That's about the level of intelligence we're dealing with here. Whether it's ghosts, aliens, or xboxes.
And I suspected his avatar hinted that he somehow thought that an ancient mollusk fossil was really an ancient spaceship. Hold on...
...
wait...
I think I just saw Jesus in a coffee spill on my desk.
