The Watch Dogs Thread v2.0

It's just like I suspected. Collectibles and unlocks became a total chore. I'm not even sure if I am playing it for fun or for perfection's sake. At least the campaign, while cliched and boring, still has some high points earlier on.

Anyone that bought Watch Dogs ever play Far Cry 3? A friend of mine has said this:
that's it in a nutshell. Same as far cry. I guess it's how Ubisoft design their games.

I played for about an hour just to check out the visuals and get a sense of the game before jumping back into my second play-thru of Tomb Raider. Anyway, I thought the presentation was great and things ran smooth but I sense a repeat of the mistake made with Assassin's Creed in that the game does too much with minimal input from the player. One button hacking is just like one button auto-parkour in the aforementioned series. As cool as it looks initially it will wear on me and not have any real fun impact later on. I hope I'm wrong and things get fleshed out a little bit more. I wouldn't mind something similar to how hacking was done in the last Deus Ex game. That was a great game that got all of its parts right with stealth, combat and hacking.

and yet, I loved Far Cry 3 and it is a much better game IMO.

Watch dogs is just a mish mash of Ubi games, and all recent Ubi games are based on one series, Assassins creed, and in Watch Dogs it shows, IMO. How anybody can play this game and not see how heavily influenced it by Assassins creed boggles my mind.

Don't forget the Splintercell cover system. I thought I was playing a Conviction sequel for the first 5 mins, lol.

Game gets better as you go, that's for sure.

Yes, the side stuff is so boring. They really need to add more side stuff or different ways of doing things. It's really predictable after a certain point of doing the side things. I know this might sound weird, but this is the most 'bland' yet good game I've ever played along with being the ugliest game that turns into a jaw-dropping game at times. I don't get it. lol. It's like sometimes you're driving along & it's barely past GTA5 on Xbox 360 quality. Then other times something looks & runs so dang good it's like it's not even the same game. I noticed where it looks the worst is down on the bottom left island the most. Those brick areas & ghetto areas with all the trees & ugly bush/grass textures. Then in the city at night with the rain the game looks astonishing at times, a complete flip.

I hope they add more to this game. If they added a co-op Hideout Survival wave thing with four player support, that would be huge alone. They should also add more weather effects besides just off & on rain from time to time, I mean it's Chicago, that city has the full range of weather!

I finished up the weapon trade investigations and got me the sweet silenced Goblin assault rifle

I'm really enjoying the game now. Started off slow but once you get some skills and things open up it's a lot of fun. I've even gotten better at the driving if I try to go slow. Only thing that's puzzling to me right now is everyone around me now seems to be driving like idiots. Everywhere I got there are car accidents and people running off the road.

The Spec Ops Goblin rifle is a beast. It has good range and is making gang hideouts a breeze for me combined with the hacking skill that disables reinforcement calls.

I'm still only a couple of missions into act 2 but it's clear the story missions are getting a bit repetitive. They went a bit overkill with the amount of camera to camera to door unlock stuff. It's cool the first time, but it's predictable after a while. But it's still a good game, I'm liking figuring out ways to get through missions silently, it's a nice change from the all guns blazing Rambo style play you get in typical open world games of this type.

You know what's a beast? The Destroyer Sniper Rifle (2 shot clip, 1 shot goes through steel car doors & kills lol) & the U100 light machine gun. I swear that LMG kills just as fast, if not faster than the assault rifles & for a 75 round clip it reloads only a hair slower than something like that ACR.

Starting to have a bit more fun with the game. I found that if I just stick to the Main missions as well as Fixer and Gang Hideout side missions, the game is much more enjoyable. Seems like most all the other side missions are really dumb or boring. Also not liking the non-lethal approach to missions. Find myself always going in and thinning the opposition with silenced headshots and explosion hacks and then go guns blazing to finish them off.

Game kinda feels like a lesser Batman AA in the stealth areas with all the options to take fools out.

I stopped trying to play or 100% Ubi games awhile ago. Just way too much of a chore. Hate games that aren't hard to get all the trophies/achievements for, but are just tedious and time consuming. Ubi is notorious for this in their games.

I'm still in the middle of Act 2. Been messing around with the side quests. Watch Dogs is so much fun.

The single player mission and gang hideouts missions are fun. The rest of the side quests are chores, along with the typical waste of a time feature, as seen in Asscreed and Farcry, to open up an area on the map.

Done almost all of the gang hideouts which is a shame, as they are by far the best side missions and most people seem to think that as well. The fixer contracts are a real chore and there's far too many of them. I've found criminal convoys to be a source of frustration as having to knock out one or two guys while dealing with a load of reinforcements can be a hassle at times.

The online invasions are one of the best parts of the game but I would have loved some online co-op gang hideouts or something like that. Ramp up the difficulty, add a bunch of enemies and vary the objectives and they'd be fun to blast through with a few friends.

The worst is a fixer mission. If the driving was fun from the first place it could be a little better, but driving sucks, and the mission is a ripoff of Rapid Response from NFS Hot Pursuit, which was arguably one worst flaw of otherwise awesome game. Criminal convoy is also ridiculously difficult at some point, killing all the fun.

Oh and I feel bad that I've unlocked all ctOS servers on the map. Some of the stealth/hacking involved in that makes up the best part of the game, especially way later on Brandon Docks. This stealth stuff never worked that well with Far Cry 3, but it's really encouraged and possible in Watch Dogs. You explore the whole map through cameras first, plan your ambush, take people down, use focus ability with silenced pistol to make up for accidents, and bam! It was just like what the first gameplay demo promised us.

What's the point of being able to stop and start trains if you can't use them to escape?

Yeah, a lot of the side stuff is just ridiculously average. You also know what sucks? The 4 vs. 4 online file decryption! It's actually pretty fun & a different take on things, but it runs at like 7 frames per second on Xbox One. I can't believe they released it running that bad. (unless you're host) I hope they improve it.

LOL well aside from the fact that I'm not that good at aiming in general, some outposts in FC3 were nearly impossible to get through by stealth, because there is no way one can perfectly plan the assault because of the limit in terms of what you can see. BTW it got boring pretty quick because there wasn't too much variety. Watch Dogs has more variety and is just cooler while going stealth. The only problem is that the developer stopped developing its potential with only one truly intriguing mission I was talking about.

well Watch dogs is abit too easy though, silenced weapon + hacking = no way to get spotted. i literally have no trouble, i just go around blowing up anyone that can be blown up by hacking, then disabling reinforcements, then i pick people off one by one with silenced pistol or rifle

its still satisfying though so i dont mind it as much.
