I can see this being a cool feature down the road and for people who aren't interested in owning any games. But 150ms of latency (minimum I'm assuming) means this is a non-starter for most competitive gaming. It's something I would certainly like to try out, but I definitely couldn't see this being my go-to gaming platform.
Am I missing something? Are Android games all that this thing will play? I don't care if this thing can play angry birds at 16k resolution @600fps if all it will play are terrible Android games.
Well they demoed Witcher 3 and Metal Gear Solid 5, so, no. Not just android games.
To be more specific, they are offering a Game Streaming service (Grid), which will have all new releases (Witcher 3, Dying Light etc etc) that you can buy and stream, as well as other games to stream in a bit of a Netflix subscription style and this console will have it's typical Android games, plus their own specific games they have had available: I saw the new Borderlands game, Limbo, Contrast etc etc, a bunch more, but nothing crazy.
I like the idea of it being future proof more than the other two consoles, 1080p 60fps is only a dream for these weak consoles NOW, imagine games like BF6 or Battlefront, good luck. Its cool because the stream is literally from a supercomputer so you can get higher than 60fps.
Just because the cloud processors can power a game to 300fps, doesn't mean you can get higher than 60fps. 60fps is the cap, that SF4 may have benchmarked to 300fps, but the end users screen is capped at 1080p/60fps. Just the same, they could probably render the game at 4k, but that doesn't mean the user will see that either.
Anyways, I get 275fps in that same benchmark on my laptop. It's not that amazing to be honest.
