Nivida: Our console does 1080p 60fps multiplatforms for $199

Apparently the machine itself is twice as powerful as a Xbox 360, and uses half the power. Unless you are streaming a game, I can't see the 1080p/60fps claim being plausible. Sure, it'll run Crysis 3, but so did the 360.

Honestly, I am not hopeful that the control latency issue can be addressed. It can be 60fps all it wants, but if it's from too many milliseconds ago, then it misses the point of high frame-rates as far as responsiveness goes. It'll be smooth though, lol.

I mean, you have to send your commands over the net, then once it's received It has to enact it and send it back. Proximity to hubs will probably be very important. Beyond that, if enough people are utilizing it, will it affect performance?

This was discussed about the Azure Cloud graphics. About how you could only really apply it to non-gameplay-essential calculations.

I'm not a big fan of the idea of streaming games. In Australia, our internet isn't up to scratch, and since my fiance is in the army, I know they can't be tied to a service reliant on a connection.

I really hope it works out as an affordable option for others though. Everyone should be allowed to game!

Like I said, we have different definitions of playable.

Lets put it this way, the controller latency in KZ2 was basically unplayable for me.

+1000 to this post.

I'm sitting there like, "Is my controller dying?"

Turns out they do it intentionally. Wow. Super gross.

I am interested in this, it seems like it will be cool imo anyway, when i had ps now beta i never experienced any lag while streaming games, my issue was random controller disconnects with that service so this is something i definitely will consider on getting. I like that games like crysis 3 and doom 3 are getting ported to android for this. I may have missed it but did they say when this will be available?

I don't think they mentioned a date specifically, but they did say Witcher 3 would be a launch title, so maybe that's the window?

ok cool, i thought i hadnt seen a date for it i just wanted to make sure, going to keep updated on any info for this.

yeah the net has to improve a whole lot before these things go right_anyway im still looking to see what the steambox does and now this ill grab either or later in the year.

I thought I heard May, too.

Here's Gamespot's coverage:

The guy mentions that they are in talks with Valve about issuing some Steam games, too. Interesting.

As far as release, he says "hopefully before summer."

Would be surprised if Steam did that. I mean they have their whole Steam PC thing.

Really excited about this, nice to see we might get some 1080p/60fps console games this gen

That video was really good to watch, definitely going to see if i can pick this up whenever it comes out, i like the pc gaming from grid option, and if steam games can be streamed that would be cool too.

Will it have Halo, Uncharted, or Mario? I didn't think so. I'll stick to the consoles i already have that will have great exclusives. If i wanted a paperweight i'd buy one.

So my understanding is the bulk of a games rendering runs of the hardware, but all the high end PC settings are pushed via the cloud? That how I understood it in the MGS5 demo, he said the Shield would be the only console version that could run the new lighting on PC they added.

If you could spend $200 on a Vita or $100 on PS TV, why wouldn't this be intriguing for $200?

I could see some concerns over streaming performance. But as a device, it offers a lot for the price.

I like the preview the guy did on a regular old Comcast connection for Shield, very exciting.

I wonder if we'll get any off screen footage from GDC?

That same guy also said that Crysis 3 etc.. Can be played locally. I wonder what kind of performance hit it will have without streaming?

It sounded like Crysis 3 and Witcher 3 were both running 30 FPS locally. Unless I got that wrong.

That's crazy if that little thing can hit 30fps locally without the streaming element for those games.

I'm wrong. It was running Crysis 3 locally at 30 fps. Or at least it was presented as a digital download. Witcher3 was streamed. But I think they said it was running at 30 as well ( right now).

Not really. The 360 ran Crysis 3 at 30fps, and this lil box is twice as powerful. It might even run the 360 version at 1080p. I'd like to see how the latency issue is addressed before I buy into the streaming features though. Still, if it works then it could drive MS into some of that cloud-based mojo they've been talking about for so long.

If it can do what they say it can do I'd be interested at that price. I have a solid internet connection at over 100 mbps but I live in the UK so they'd need European servers.

LOL. Yea maybe like 25% of the time, the other 75% it was running in the 20's like a slide show.

Well I was just considering the size of the box and thinking the gameplay I saw was a higher settings than 360 and that's without the help of the server.

How is this even possible though? I thought everyone poo pooed the concept of cloud based gaming?

Couldn't Microsoft or Sony completely follow this path and have games running on super computers that far exceed what we have today that could be streamed to whatever box that's on the other end?

it could be centerpiece on next gen consoles, but they will be more flexible than simply cloud based I'd hope.

Snake oil, that's how...

The more i see of this the more i am excited about it and going to try to pick this up if not right when it comes out then soon after words. The face that they ported games like crysis 3 and others to android is pretty impressive imo.
