Official Thread Street Fighter 5

Yep 79>73. Poor KI bringing up the rear.

Plus games don't even count unless they are $60. Union taught me that.

KI Season 2 is rated 85 on metacritic, it's been posted several times in this thread.

I knew I wasn't getting certain features till March and June because Capcom was up front.
KI had 4 characters from the start. You need a better comparison cause KI was a more incomplete product than SFV @ launch.
KI is $20, so you can't expect the world.

And why the big comparison to KI anyway?

MK, DC Universe, Tekken and VF are series sold at the standard $60. And so is KI Collection at $60.

Feel free to compare modes, features, and such vs. any of these $60 games.

Heck, I don't follow any of those anime style fighters like KoF and Guilty Gear. But compare features against those games too.... although I'm not sure what price those niche fighters sell at.... $30, $40, $60?

Compare SF5 to Capcom's old fighters like Marvel vs SF or Marvel vs Capcom if you like.

SFV offers more,is more popular and plays much better much deeper.
Continue to be salty now though.

Oh and again DC Universe isn't a Fighter.

My mistake, I meant Injustice. Never the less, SF5 getting trounced by reviews. Here's the metacritic score and the user score of recent fighters. I took the vanilla version, as opposed to any deluxe or ultra edition. All well known games are $60, except individual KI 2 season at $20. Not sure about the price of niche fighters like Blazblue, Guilty Gear, KoF.

Game. Meta. User Score
SF 4 94, 7.3
VF 5, 86, 7.3
KI Season 2 85, 7.6
Guilty Gear Xrd 84, 8.0
MK X 83, 7.7
Tekken TT2 82, 8.1
Injustice 80, 7.2
Blazblue: Chrono 80, 7.8
SF 5 79, 3.4 (it was 3.5, but just dropped another 0.1)
KoF XIII 77, 8.1

Play more then COD and you wouldn't make such mistakes and you would know that SFV plays better online than all of the titles you listed.
How can it play better than "all of the tiles you listed", when it's missing half the modes and online is sketchy?

Glad I can enjoy both KI and SF. Anyways exchanged the Mad Catz for the Hori and loving it so far. Dpad feels good. Haven't messed around with the settings too much. Might move the Dpad 10 degrees. And like Plainview I wish the controllers had a built in mic port.

All those problems and SF5 still scores better than Killer Instinct. The salt is understandable.

Why are you comparing against the first KI? It's SF 5 after all. So if you're going to compare, use KI Season 2. And for sake of comparing SF 5 against it's older games, compare it against SF 4's 94 rating.

A better comparison is SF 5 vs. any other fighting game's most recent vanilla game.
The same reason you are comparing a launch game to further along re-reviewed games.

So SF5 can only be compared against KI Season 1, while ignoring all the other fighting series out there.

Ok, gotcha. LOL

Who's salty? KI Season 1 is a $20 game. And also a game built from the ground up from its 20 year old arcade origins.

KI Season 2 is also $20. And it has much better meta and user scores than $60 SF 5.

But hey, just like Val, if you want to ignore all the other fighting games that have scored well, go ahead. There's more fighting games in the industry to compare against than only $20 KI Season 1.

I would be salty if I cherry picked when metacritic counts and when it doesn't and still can't make X1 look good

Who's cherry picking?

I listed all the key fighting games that have come out lately with their most recent game. And aside from KoF XIII, SF5 has a lower meta score by critics. As for user scores, it's less than half what the typical user score is for other fighting games which is somewhere around 7.0-8.0.

If anything, you (and Val) are some reason specifically cherry picking KI Season 1, when there's lots of other fighting series out there including MK, VF, and Tekken.

For example MK X came out in 2015. The first MK game in 4 years (excluding all those deluxe editions). It is fully featured, and has a better meta and user score. SF 5 has had more development time (SF 4 came out in 2008 ).

Got about two hours of playing last night. The controls are very smooth. Makes me feel like I am better than I am.

Played some at a friends place and I am thrilled I didn't waste $60 on this hot steamy turd. If anything the reviews have been far too forgiving for this incomplete hiccup of a fighter. Save your money fence riders! /jmho

Sadly most people who buy the game don't participate in any "pro gaming" tournaments nor do they follow them so the game just looks like a half baked title. The core mechanics are there etc but if you aren't someone who plays online there really isn't a reason to buy this game right now. I have it and I finished the "story mode" very quickly as just about everyone has and I can't stand the survival mode, 30 matches? really? there is no standard player vs cpu match or arcade mode, not having those is just insanely stupid IMO. I'm sure in a few months when there is more content I'll be happier with it but right now it just seems like a shell of a street fighter game to me, especially when the last fighting game I bought had a ton of content and is still being supported nearly a year after release (MKX)
Wait.. There is no player vs CPU? WTF?! I'd never buy a fighter without that. That's crazy.

There is, but I think its a 3 fight story mode?

And I think you can get disconnected from it?

I don't own the game, but that's what one of the video reviews said.

There is no Arcade mode..... the traditional one where you fight 10+ battles and end your character's story with a boss fight.

Instead, each character has a "Story mode", which involves 2-4 individual fights. Clear them and you get a comicbook-esque cut scene called the "Epilogue". Most gamers should be able to 100% all the story modes for all 16 characters in an hour or two.

You also have to be online for these SP story modes to work too.
