Lets say MS releases Scalebound for Scorpio
Say the XBO version is 1080p/30 and Scorpio is 4k/60
Say If I buy the digital XBO version, will it "upscale" to 4k/60fps or will my play anywhere digital rights also allow me to own the Scorpio version and I just play that instead?
Things i'm certain of:
- Post 2017, all MS exclusives will have Scorpio as the lead and scale down to XBOX One
Scorpio = 4K/60FPS?
More likely 4K/60 on indie games. I highly doubt you see 4K/60FPS on AAA/AA titles. My guess 4K/30 or 1080/60.
I predict for the first 6 months the only real benefit of Scorpio will be resolution and more vibrant color pallets. E3 2018 MS will announce that customers have spoken and they are listening...and will take advantage of Scorpio in other ways.
.
Phil did contradict himself. I think the challenge in messaging is a combination of not alienating current Xbox One gamers, making the S seem appealing, and not over-promising results upon release. The best way to do that is tell people to buy the Scorpio only if they're interested in 4k.
It's not going to be difficult for developers to have 4K resolution available for Scorpio games they're currently developing. Scaling up the rest of the graphics is more of a challenge and probably won't be seen much at Scorpio release. Over time, it's hard to imagine that the Scorpio and Neo won't get some of the same graphic choices that PC gamers get.

The first 6 months of any new console you barely see the technology utilized so it's a fine message right now. 4K is a significant benefit for gamers with high end TVs. I'd prefer 1080P with other graphical improvements and I'm guessing that will eventually happen. Problem that MS and Phil have to balance is the message for start of Scorpio's life will be different from the message a year later.
Someone suggested that they will have adjustable settings like PC. I see that as a viable option as well. Devs can still create games for Scorpio and state that every game is still available on the One and the S together.Oc Scorpio will envolve. Ppl will soon demand an extra hi-res texture pack. At e3 2018 extra hi-res texture packs will be announced as an optional download.
This way all games can still run at all Xbox devices but Scorpio users get an extra option.
Just my 5c

Not many high quality 1080p sets are made anymore most are super thin edge lit junk ALL known manufacturers HQ sets and flagship sets are 4K.(only vizio is making a few Full Array 1080p sets) I just bought my son a 50 inch 4K HDR set on sale at best buy for $499.You have a link that says that Samsung, Vizio, LG, Sony are not manufacturing 1080p sets for 2016? I'd like to read up on this more. I still see many 1080p sets in stores these days so 4k sets are definitely not going to be mainstream yet for another couple years. Instead of 1080p being on the way out, more like 4k is just now starting to be on the way in.
They are doing a broadcast in a few minutes if anyone is interested:

?That's creepy. I feel like I'm looking into a mirror.
Close anyways.
Listening to the cast. These guys say the Scorpio will have better specs than what is known, next year.
Still listening though...
EDIT: saying the Scorpio will be at least $500 to $600. Not sure about that though. $500 and up, is ghost town.
$350? No way. I stl believe MS is dead set on reclaiming the throne, and I think in order for them to do that (aside from being the most powerful) is to create hard hitting IPs, play the long game, bite the bullet and take the loss on hardware for a bit, which I believe they plan to do.In the beginning of the video if you pause in the first few seconds, where it's a bit blurry, that guy in the middle looks like my clone. Not so much later when it clears up and the angles change.
You should expect $500 at least. Don't f*** up your expectations by thinking it's going to launch for $350 or something.

I disagree with this statement. Currently, most UHD movies are derived from a 2K intermediate, but even if they were true 4K masters, you'd still get a 2K downscale with regular Blu-ray, since that is what the studio would do, and do it better than your hardware could. You also would get none of the HDR benefit. Just saying.Yes, eventually you'd want to get a 4K to take full advantage but in the meantime, what if the 4K bluray player could downsample and add increased effects to your movies? That would be the point of owning one for a 1080p set.
Set on doing what?$350? No way. Halo 5 has dynamic resolution. I have to wonder if this was one of the reasons MS has been pushing for that standard. ??? Maybe all the dynamic res games will automatically scale to the highest possible res automatically, independent of hardware?
I would love adjustable settings!Someone suggested that they will have adjustable settings like PC. I see that as a viable option as well. Devs can still create games for Scorpio and state that every game is still available on the One and the S together.
I still think we'll see a $399 console so the adoption rate escalates quickly. That way we can nudge the conversion along.
Yeah, I noticed that they confirmed what I just speculated after reading a bit more into it. This is very exciting! At least some already released games will benefit! Others with an unstable framerate should also naturally increase to the higher plateau. This is a pretty big deal all around!I believe they already confirmed that dynamic res games would hit their top resolution consistently on Scorpio. Halo 5 should maintain it's 1080P all the way through if you play it on Scorpio.
...and yes, it makes sense why this has been a thing. Lock the FPS and scale the resolution anywhere between 900P and 4K. I wouldn't be surprised to see some games locked at 60 FPS scale resolution between 2k and 4k depending on how intensive the scene is on Scorpio. I think that would be great if it became the norm for developers to lock frame rate at 60 fps and just let res scale. I don't think most gamers would notice if res dipped below 4k.
