Is it a new map?

It might be?

There's an interesting ARG that just started with Fortnite. To get you up to speed...

1. Rocket event goes off last week.

2. Rocket seems to be causing dimensional rifts around the map that sucks in/removes whatever they're near once a day at 9:00pm EST.

3. One of the rifts showed up on the Durr Burger sign. 24hrs later, the sign is removed from the game.

4. Now this starts happening...

We might be getting a new desert themed map this week but that's just a guess at this point.

We're two days away people! Two days!!

And here's a little clip of why Fortnite is the GOAT. I have over 1,000 hours into the game and yesterday was the first time I've ever experienced this...

Context:. We're the last two left. The jingle you hear when the spike traps go off cement him as the games villain.

The young man sent me the following message directly after.

"Wow ur an a****** and ur pathetic you only had 2 kills. Scrub trash"

I fired up the PS4 version of this last night and I was astounded at the control difference.

The dead zones on the PS4 controller are so much smaller and allow for a lot more precision.

I would switch over if all my friends weren't on Xbox.

I think Epic said they're planning to fix that (on XBox) in their last State of Development blog post last month.

Anyway, were 16 hours from Season 5 and I'm hyped!!

So much for playing late tonight. 30 minute queue now after getting randomly kicked :smash:

Just played about two hours of the new update.
In my opinion, it's the second best update the game has gotten since launch. The best updates, in order.

1. Guided Rocket Launcher
2. Season 5 launch
3. Tilted Towers map update
4. 60 frames per second update

The Golf Cart provides for some funny encounters/ambushes but those rifts are such an awesome addition. They make traversing the map so much more fun.

Pro Tip: That Viking mountaintop village is my new home. The loot isn't great for squads but once you win it, you have three great options to jump to in Snobby, Sports Complex, and Greasy. The best part is you'll be jumping off before anyone in surrounding areas are done looting. I just need that Viking skin to come out now.

The update is amazing no doubt.

Thank God they toned down the aim assist on the hunting rifle, it was so overwhelming before that it actually hindered your ability to use it.

According to Fortnite Intel Epic is readying their Tactics Showdown LTM.

"This mode encourages tactical combat and building by putting a cap on the amount of resources and ammunition players can carry. Player-built structures also start off with less health than normal, and when players are eliminated they will drop fewer resources than normal”

This is really interesting because I don't think Epic ever saw this building meta materializing in the way that it did and I think they're starting to realize it's a danger to the long term health of the game. Can't wait to try it and see what comes from it.

Now that has me really interested and could bring me into playing more often.

The crazy building is what keeps me from playing the game a lot. It gets annoying.

It might be a nice introduction to the game for people who have trouble building.

A “no building” mode would be even better. I just want a straight shooter. Leave the fast paced Minecraft while trying to shoot each other to the kiddies.

I definitely don't agree about the no building. There's something inherently cool about finding a spot to build a giant metal base, doing so, and then poking out the top as if to say "Come at me Bros!" They can't remove that aspect of the game.

The current flaw, IMO, is that placing new building pieces down is too OP. You shouldn't be able to catch someone out in the open, tag them for 66 health, and then not be able to hit them again because they're holding R2 while looking at you. It removes the tactical importance of your environment too much.

I'm for anything that buffs actual bases and nerfs defensive building + build battles.

Even though building has got out of hand it has to exist. It is too integral to how the game works.

That I agree if someone is getting shot they should not be able to build their way out of it in seconds. Make it take longer to build something to the point it starts blocking gunfire. This way you can build to be ready for a fight, but you can not build in the middle of a fight quickly.

If you add a mode with no building it doesn't stop people from playing the original mode they love. It just brings other people that don't care for that part to still enjoy the game.

No, but it does divide the player base.

I have ten or twelve people I play Fortnite with regularly. If Epic decides to offer two main modes, a percentage of those friends are going to prefer playing the mode I do not.

That's not the end of the world as making friends is easy but it's not ideal.

Plus, then you have the wider orbit of "Fortniters" who are now talking about something you're not as interested or invested in. If I play the Tactics mode, do I want to watch a Fortnite ESports event that plays with the high materials/building mode? Maybe, but certainly not as much.

I could be wrong but I can't picture Epic dividing their game up like that.

It's kind of like going to a friend's house as a kid to play some split screen multiplayer and he hands you a cheap ass 3rd party controller. Yeah... it's just like that.

There are locations and chests you wouldn't even be able to reach without building

Getting on top of a building or mountain would become OP as hell

Having more modes that may interest people that don’t already play the game is a good thing. I know people that would play it without the building.
