The pro came out 3 years later than the PS4 and shared very similar architecture but it came out four years ago, the post I was responding to was talking about 1440p and why they could do that for the Pro and be ok but not the Series S. My point is that was a 4TF machine that was meant to improve games made for a 1.8TF machine and almost all we got was a resolution boost and slight framerate improvements. The new gen shouldn't be targeting 1.8TF machines as a baseline for what they can handle graphically, they'll be asking more of the GPU to begin with and that's before any kind of res boost. The GPU in the Series S is more advanced than what's in the Pro so it's not a straight up comparison but it's also going to be asked to handle more advanced graphical techniques and more demanding games.

Right, the rumors on the PC side are that AMD is coming out with a new hardware based upsampling method meaning that a lot of games on the Xbox Series X and PS5 will be running at a native resolution of 1440p. So if a game can barely run on a Series X at 1440p at 30fps then what happens to that same game on the Xbox Series S?

Upsampling from 540p to 1080p won't work because AMD's upsampler won't be good enough for that. Not every game will be like that, but native resolutions will vary wildly just like they did with this current gen.

It's the 3rd most used resolution on steam hardware survey. That fits exactly with what I said.

menace-uk- And to chime in a bit, those hardware surveys count a lot of people from 3rd world countries logging on to Steam on their phones. If they broke it down by region and by people who actually spend money on triple A games then I think that data would be much different. I logged into Steam for a long time with an i5-6400 integrated graphics before getting a GPU.

And if they surveyed console gamers that number would be nearly 0.

Doesn't really matter how people try to spin it. Targeting a res that very few will ever use is a waste of resources.
