And cheaper digital version wouldN't help at all. There is literally 0 reason for anybody to get a disc PS5 other than than the included disc drive.

Being competitive isn't always about cost. Brand names sell regardless. Sony has that.

The disc model grants you BluRay playback. Some people also prefer to have discs over digital. I would also say backwards compatibility but Sony could easily add this to the cloud.

i do, do have tons of games via disc, most recently Tony Hawk because reproduction board :p and cheap price. And I don’t want to play most bc games via a paid service in the future, unless they’re free via ps+ or worth double dipping or share with one of my siblings :D

I think the best of both worlds is best since it's easier to take the game to a friends house or a place where there is no online available. This is likely where some may see value in the discs

Yeah... I'm sure a lot of people have been told a lot of things by their buddies, though. So now we have a lot of buddies running around with buddy answers these days.

For the PS5 to exceed the $500 mark, it has to be as expensive or more expensive than the Series X to manufacture. Short answer.....it's not. Because it's not, that places it closer to the $400 mark than the $500 mark, and that's with the disc drive. So by Sony even selling the disc version at $500, they are selling the SKU at a profit, which is not the case with the Series X. By removing the drive, Sony will more than likely break even or sell at a small loss. So any money they make off the high end SKUs will simply go towards some of the money being lost on the low end SKUs in addition to other things such as purchasing games or accessories or even games sold on PC to mitigate that impact.

People guessing are doing just that.
I still think Sony's crazy SSD is going to end up driving a lot of cost. I dont think the digital version will cost much less either.

Drives just aren't that expensive. I'd bet a 50 dollar price diff. I also thing the whole reason sony hasn't announced price is that they wanted to get MSs official price out first so they can charge as much as they dare.

Obviously conjecture, but I bet if they planned a lower price, they'd have announced already. It seems to me they want some space between theirs and Microsoft's.

That's just me. Watch it come out at 400, lol...

It'll be 999, which will put it above 10 dollars after tax.

Obviously it’s going to come down to the cost of the SSD for PS5. We all know on paper the SX has better specs aside the SSD so as far as GPU, CPU and Ram are concerned, the PS5 should be cheaper to manufacture. Ultra fast SSD’s aren’t cheap but I’m sure I read that the PS5 SSD only cost $25 dollars but it’s something to do with how they increased the io bandwidth aside the SSD that allows it to be super fast. I’m expecting $500 450 but $450/399 is possible if SSD costs $25.
I’ve always thought Sony would dominate this gen like last (which was well deserved with their stellar exclusives) and all this time we’ve been talking about PS5vs SX but since the announcement of the SS, I genuinely think Xbox has a chance of outselling PS5 in USA and UK. If PS5 digital is $399 all bets are off.

Sony was definitely waiting on Microsoft's price. Phil Spencer said it himself that he would wait on Sony to give their price so that he could counter them because he had the means to, and he's right because he could. So, for Sony to be as effective in pricing as possible Microsoft would have to be blinded by what they were holding.

So just because Sony has a low price they've pursued does not mean that they will reveal it before Microsoft. This may also be the case as to why we haven't gotten a teardown.

when and where did Phil say that? He only said he’s gotten the ok from Microsoft’s ceo to be flexible on price. What were they holding, a spotlight to his face?

Let’s just wait and see, no?

Wanting a disk drive is a HUGE reason to want that model.
They can keep that all digital crap and it's bad enough that we are forced to play this way on the PC.
Did I say it wasn't? Nope. All I said was the disc drive is the only reason to get that Sku. A cheaper $400 sku will make tgings worse and that disd drive will seem less valuable to many in digital era.

I will get one with disc drive. The benefit outweighs the price difference in the long run. You can have the option to borrow games as well as use game. Also for my case, not spend 2-3 days downloading games.

No he didn't. Do you have a link saying Phil said this?

“We’re definitely going to be keeping our eyes wide open as we go towards launch, looking at what the competition is doing. But we have a plan and we feel very solid about our plan. We think it’s a winning plan… I feel that we’ve got a plan that can win.”

Asked if Xbox was able to react to PS5’s pricing, Spencer confirmed the platform holder would remain “agile”.

“We’re getting incredible support from Microsoft… they’re very linked into what our plans are. We’re going to make sure we stay agile on our pricing and that we have a good plan going into launch.”

For someone who doesn't consider Sony as their competition anymore or how many consoles they sell, Phil Spencer sure is focused heavily on what Sony are doing with their console. So.... Sony decided to keep a lid on everything they were doing up until the last minute, to give Microsoft no clue to what they were holding so that they couldn't react. This is how Microsoft ended up blinking first; Sony ran the clock all the way down, and now they are ready.

just kidding lol

Word for word, he didn't. I think Shawn is reading between the lines, and to be fair to Shawn, it isn't an unreasonable summation.
Did Phil say something remotely close to what Shawn implied? Honest question.

Thank you. That's all i was asking. Don't know why Val laughed at my earlier post.

Damn I got this new phone and I am trying to figure it out. Val I'm not "purposely" not paying attention. I'm living life through work and family and don't have time for stupid s*** like this. But go ahead and enjoy.
