Heard another really good point somewhat backed up by a dev. Dirt 5 devs mentioned something about being able to multithread properly late in the development cycle and how it had a significant impact on performance. If the tools only recently fixed whatever issue was related to that, could also explain frame rates. Chance some of the bigger games simply were not able to perform last minute optimization resulting from tools fix related to multithreading. Might be the best case scenario honestly because that could be addressed by developers the fastest.

But the game is the same. The graphics and animations, sure, are new. And that's good. But if everything that makes it a game is the same, it's not a new game. It doesn't make it great, and if people feel like paying for the same game multiple times I get that - I bought kotor 3 times, civ iv three or four times, fallout three times, etc. Just be honest about that and enjoy that it's a great game.
Oh I get it, it's not a new game but it is a full remake and not just a sub 720p BC title that looks like garbage on a 4K screen. Like I said I never would have purchased it had it just been the PS3 version ported over or playable through BC, old ugly games don't really interest me at this stage there are too many new things to play that I want, things that show me why I wanted a new gen console. I would much rather play a Fable 2 remake than the BC version on xbox but I know that's just a personal thing and not everyone feels the same about that.

The few main characters looks okay, most noch looks not very good.
That's the same with most open world games, the NPC's in Unity don't look good either and they have terrible pop in when it comes to their clothing.

Neither console is being fully leveraged right now it's not just xbox, the majority of games are cross-gen and those that aren't didn't have the full spec to build on the entire time. Both will see their tools improve as time goes on and devs will find ways to leverage the power even more which is how it always works.
This is correct. Difference is where they're at today. All things don't improve at the same rate at the same time. Newer, rawer tools have more challenges early on and generally see the most improvement in the short term. That's what I was getting at. The Xbox GDK has made basic multithreading difficult. Long term, yes. Both will be able to produce much more impressive stuff than we're seeing right now.

I could be wrong but it seems like you may think their stuff is really far behind compared to Sony, Sony has tools designed for a specific set of specs and MS will never have that with a GDK because that's sort of an all purpose set up across the entire xbox family and PC. As far as I remember the DF guys never said that devs told them they tools were behind but that they didn't like that it wasn't a specific set of tools for the new consoles.

Maybe I'm wrong but from what I've read Sony designed a system without any real bottlenecks when it comes to getting the most out of the hardware and keeping things moving so it can be utilized more fully while the Xbox is a bit more traditional in that sense so it's likely that some things will be sitting around waiting for things to do from time to time as is typical but it also means you are leaving potential performance just sitting there.

What's interesting and was pointed out by a dev somewhere else is that the PS5 version is actually outperforming Valhalla on their 2080TI. They aren't able to get Valhalla to run at 1480P/60fps consistently even with some settings turned down. Valhalla currently is only optimized and punching above its weight on PS5. It's not great on PC either.

...and it maybe gets lost in everything. Remember when devs were saying how good developing for PS5 was? It's dev tools right now might be the best the industry has ever seen at the launch of a console. Sometimes you have to give credit where it's due.

The GDK vs more specialized tools the PS5 uses is a fair point and the more specialized toolset may give them an advantage in the future as well. There is a point of diminishing returns when it comes to "better" with anything and right now Microsoft just needs their tools to get to adequate and unlocking all it's features before worrying about being the best. There is confirmation from devs that 1) dev kits were later 2) GDK just went out to AAA devs very recently 3) GDK still isn't in hands of Indies 4) there are issues with the GDK. Currently the games performing best on Series X relative to how they perform on PC are Gears 5 and Ori. Both those games are using the XDK.

The 2nd paragraph is off. Both systems are very well balanced. Have not heard a single dev complain about bottlenecks. Part of that balance for the Xbox does include using the features of their Velocity architecture like Direct Storage and sampler feedback otherwise CPU is burdened and the fast memory is out of balance. Right now, the majority of the next gen features are not being used by the majority of devs the majority of the time. That should change.

Also there is more to the tools than the GDK. Other APIs will really leverage these systems as well. Right now, almost nothing is ready. Epics UE5 engine is not going to be ready until mid 2021, about the same time Microsoft's GDK should have most of it's features. Things are coming in hot. All things considered, PS5 features aren't being fully leveraged either however it's been much easier for devs to optimize. The problems we're talking about today are very specific to optimization. Not power or capabilities.

This seems to back up one of my early theories. CPU on X currently working harder than PS5s because the system is designed to offload tasks that are currently not being offloaded. Devs either just received the updated GDK or haven't received it yet. Explains the frame issues in some games. Where as the Dirt 5 devs were able to make major last second gains in performance with the most recent GDK, bigger games like Valhalla will take far longer to optimize.

Go back and watch the first videos from DF about SFS. They talked about how decompression which would normally require 4 to 5 CPU cores was now using 1/10th of a single core due to SFS. I know the PS5 has this same functionality with their own method. With earliest GDK, Xbox is not leveraging a core feature the system hardware was balanced with.

Okay from what is known. PS5>XSX. Seems simple enough.

the "better tools" sound like DirectX 12 all over again. Call me Skeptically Stacy, but I am well skeptical.

No. From what is known the SX is running on a gimped SDK with most devs not receiving the updated SDK which brings significant gains. Unless you think 10 is more than 12? yes simples.

Without SFS, the Series X isn't balanced and is bottlenecked due to I/O throughput which has a snowball impact on memory and CPU. PS5 avoids all this because devs don't need SFS. They can rely on brute force I/O speeds. This doesn't look like a 2 year problem. People should chill.

Not to mention devs first received the GDk only in June.

Not a good comparison at all, they're all completely different games.

I could have made a better comparison I admit but you get the point. It's not an entirely brand new game but it's not the exact same one either.

"It's not a remaster so much as a full-on remake from the ground up, though the fundamentals remain precisely the same - only here they're served by cutting edge visuals and all the special tricks the new generation of PlayStation hardware can muster. It's quite the thing." - DF

The gameplay/experience is more enhanced on the PS5 because of the new visuals, controller and improved audio of the system.

I can't believe the mass hysteria over just the first batch of games released.
Especially since its not much of a surprise. Regardless of which system performs slightly better it was always obvious only first party games would ever really take meaningful advantages of these systems.

I am just enjoying the flyting. I spoke with some Gamestop employee, & he said the next patch of hardware wouldn't come until at least Jan or even Feb next year, so I can see how they play out.

You should go check out the thread at Reddit in the Xbox Series X sub. They're about two seconds from human sacrifice.

Well I didn't say you couldn't do it. In fact I encourage it. I wouldn't have anywhere to lurk if you didn't.

Just a few jabs here and there, it's no fun without a little heated debate at the start of a new gen hehe. At the end of the day, you buy whatever you want to buy, play the games you want to play and noone can stop you from enjoying it. We are all so fortunate and privileged to be able to buy these consoles from the start of next gen.

These consoles are basically in Early Access right now. Lol

Ironically after Cyberpunk, which should be running in BC mode initially, there won't be another big test for hardware power until Resident Evil next year. Not the worst time to transition tools and work out the kinks honestly.

Lets say hypothetically AC: Valhalla is what it is in terms of what they can squeeze out of the Series X, they still should offer other modes. I would probably rather have locked 30 FPS with no screen tearing and native 4K if that is the best they can do.

The bottom line in all of this is that Microsoft have a lot to prove. Not only in terms of creating new exciting IP's, but also now on the power front.

You can't make the claim of "most powerful console" and then under deliver for whatever reason/s.

Ps5 launch year still has Ratchet and Clank, Horizon Zero Dawn 2 and God of War 2 Ragnarok coming in terms of exclusives. Best launch year ever if they all come out as promised ?

Hopefully these 3 will be able to use improved dev tools as well.

I don't know man, after trying out Demon's souls remake in both 30 (4k) and 60 fps (1440p), I vastly prefer 60 fps because of the smoother visuals and also increased response. It also comes down to what type of game it is as the 60 fps gives you an advantage in movement and attacks because of the mechanics in Demon's Souls Remake.
