Dear Phil,
Now is the time to market to the Antarctica people

Like I said a couple months back, developers said it was a tool issue. In about a year, the Series X will be pushing more "stuff" on the regular. However if you need DF videos to know this, does it even matter? We're at diminishing returns. The Series X version had 35% more pixels and higher quality shadows and not a single review or preview called it out. Hardly a person watching playthroughs noticed it. Even 50% more pixels results in nominal gain on top end TV sets for the vast majority of consumers. It's a pissing match for nothing. Outside of maybe, possibly Val (our resident flip flopper), there isn't anyone else in this forum who I believe would be willing to switch primary platforms over performance. I know when PS4 was pushing 50% more pixels, more details and even more stable frame rates over my VCR OG Xbox One, I never budged because I liked the controller better. The delta at those levels was more noticeable than they are up in this pixel territory. There's even science to back that up. Higher you go, the more diminishing returns you get. Maybe I just lack eagle vision but difference between 1440P and native 4K feels negligible.
There are a couple situations where PS5 may have an advantage but more times than not, the Series X will win these things overall (within a year). Will become more apparent when games get more CPU intensive. Why you should look out for Battlefield. Series X had some issues with it's SFS that was bugging the CPU. Once that's resolved, the Series just has more computational power before you move on to some of it's other efficiencies.
Multiplat devs with a lot of experience in the industry who talk to people in other studios generally know what they're talking about. Maybe they just don't understand the magic of the PS5. Maybe the PS5's I/O advantage plays a bigger part in next gen game engines like UE5. Ease of development can also be under-rated and I'm not hearing Series X will ever be easier to develop for than PS5. Humans can be wrong. Until we're making true next gen games consistently pushing true next gen features, we also don't have all the info. But right now the humans with the most info think Series X is capable of more "stuff". Feel free to bookmark and call me out this time next year.
Additionally I keep saying the tools are more interesting than the hardware this gen. I'm not talking SDK/XDKs either. The new APIs that help developers do cool things. I've heard the UE5's nanite is the real deal. Will also be interesting to see the impact ML has. This stuff is way more interesting than pixels. When you see Indies start making games that look AAA, you'll know what I'm talking about.
Hard to read into that too much. I'm sure Epic is going to make sure their engine runs as great as it can on every platform including the one with the largest AAA gamer userbase. They also have worked closely with Ninja Theory. Basically Epic wants it to be the go-to engine on every platform....and may have pulled that off. From a pure efficiency standpoint, a lot of times large developers will highly modify the base engine to suit whatever it is they're trying to do. We'll have to wait and see as we don't know where the new bottlenecks are. New features and methods could change the balance of things. 500 million though...that's 1/50th of what Epic is worth.PS paid Epic a half billion as a “investment.” Epic in return said they are rewriting unreal 5.0 code specifically for PS5. I’m sure it will sing on XSX also because of specs alone but it’s basically going to be a custom engine built for PS5.
There will be goal post moving......Seems like people were really noticing the small graphic differences when a different console had an advantage with a couple early games.

I don't think we will see much from ML this gen.Additionally I keep saying the tools are more interesting than the hardware this gen. I'm not talking SDK/XDKs either. On the Xbox side specifically, I believe their technology sharing and investment from the parent company for more R&D for things like evolution of AI, better physics, has more potential than their hardware. They sell their tools to the entire industry so nothing they come up with in the labs will remain Xbox exclusive but their studios will get to use it first.
Heard there's some things already working behind the scenes but until it's working in games, not betting my life on it. I'd say it's good odds we do but certainly not a sure thing.I don't think we will see much from ML this gen.
Come one now, I confess you're usually pretty non partial... But not seeing this as a loss on paper is illogical.Huh I say it's a tie or better yet a preference of a difference.
One wants better performance they get the PS5 and if one wants a higher resolution they get the XSX.
Saying PS5 can only do 1800p is like saying XSX can't do 4K cause of performance issues and loss of details when zoomed in.
That don't mean much, though. MS said similar about cloud compute last gen. Like cloud compute last gen, i think ML will come but in cool not really massively impactful ways, like upscaling to 4K like Nividia's DLSS. Maybe some bigger things at the end of gen like Crackdown 3 and Flight Simulator.Heard there's some things already working behind the scenes but until it's working in games, not betting my life on it. I'd say it's good odds we do but certainly not a sure thing.
I don't see a tiny drop nor is it 1% of the time.Come one now, I confess you're usually pretty non partial... But not seeing this as a loss on paper is illogical.
Lower res, worse shadows and only a performance win in a tiny area of one map which prob constitutes 0.1% of actual game time.
I don't see a tiny drop nor is it 1% of the time.
One stage out of six with drops to the 50's and as low as 40 fps when aiming is a much higher %.2% of the time?

I have it for PS5 via game sharing but am not a fan.You mean a section of a stage. And it was hovering in the mid 50's most of the time anyway.
Damn you sucked me in again. The horse has been beat to death. Get the PS5 version if you're that worried about dropping a few frames.
XBOX series X/S will be distance 3rd again. At which point will MS sack Phil Spencer.
Why did they do this? That's crazy, doubling the price?
I guess to force people to use GP, if you're an existing member the pricing is the same but this would definitely be a turn off for new people looking to get an Xbox.
