Now that they reversed course and made F2P games free to play online, I think they will be stuck at this price for quite some time.

I mean even if they increased it $10 a year max AND made F2P truly F2P, I wouldn’t have s*** my pants like I did yesterday.

What service doubles their price and adds zero content and features and think it’s ok?

Phil had a serious lapse in judgement.

Now focus on getting our games out to us please. We want to give you money 💴

Well they surely were not testing the waters. The new xbl cards had already shipped to retail. This error will cost them millions in product and lost faith. I think the blow back made them s*** their pants, especially when they are pushing Windows PC more than ever and online is free,

Smart move reversing course 12 hours later.

That is great news MS reversed the Xbox live price increase although some form of reputation damage has likely already been done. MS got greedy and tried to pull a fast one on Xbox Gamers but I see that we can still rely on rage culture to right the course. Who was it that said complaining online does nothing again? Maybe if you spoke with your wallet and not bought Xbox Live at all maybe MS might take notice ? 😏

This is what MS do when they are dead last! Imagine if they are the leader.
I didn't even know you need gold to play MP. No wonder I barely see any Xbox players on cross-play playing Fortnite

To elaborate on some of the stuff a said a couple days ago, I've only heard good things from devs about working on PS5 too. Fact that it's so easy to work for, was a faster transition and that their 1st party devs are literally going to be focused on 1 single platform after the cross gen stuff is done means Sony's 1st party will be more efficient than last gen. More efficiency = better results in same or less amount of time. Sony can always outsource PC ports since they aren't day and date. So both 1st parties have their own developmental advantages. It will take more time to push Series X and there's more work required per each game but it has more overall upside. Neither platform is weak or unbalanced. That's how I'd summarize these hardware differences. Wild card will always be the tools and APIs for which both companies prioritize.

I really think this is going to be an extremely exciting gen. Most exciting time since early 360 days. Been a bit burnt out by the negativity lately. I only participate in this thread to add some context to the unhinged narratives. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong but communicating what I think based on what I hear from people I trust.

They definitely suffered some reputation damage. Every hour it went on would've equated to more. On one hand, it was one of the most boneheaded and poorly thought out decisions in over 7 years. On the other hand, I've never seen a megacorporation respond so quickly to feedback. Has to be up there in terms of records.

In the end, I expect corporations are going to corporation and do what they can to make money. It's about respecting your customer though and this move and it's initial communication didn't do that. Personally this doesn't change much for me. I've said all along to anyone that can listen, Game Pass Ultimate (not just Game Pass the base service) is the platform and measuring stick from Nadella and the investors. Yesterday's initial move was awful execution in achieving their goals. The reversal's quick turnaround was positive. Nothing has changed from a high level.

I'm glad they did with the quick turnaround otherwise who knows what the damage would have been. Poorly timed decision by the high level executives at MS for sure. Who even would pass this at this point? Did they not think it through? We know that the new cards were already produced and existing so this wasn't a quick decision. We are almost a year into one of the worse pandemics in a century and they want to not just hike up the price a little but double when families/individuals may be already having financial troubles. At least the positive is you can actually play F2P games now without paying for XBL and the price hike is averted for the present.

It's was so stupid...I have to assume it got through due to lack of cohesion. Like they basically got there in steps and people up high didn't connect the dots. It's not just about price. Yesterday's initial move subtracted options. It reduced accessibility. It killed value to the customer. All things opposite of what they've been selling for the past 3 years.

It's why I don't equate yesterday to raising game prices. Raising prices sucks...but in the end, it's not an artificial attempt to take away an option. Yesterday was designed to get people to not subscribe to Gold so they would instead subscribe to something else. No excuse. No defense. The fact that they had such a quick turnaround saved it though. At least for me. I'm moving on.

Yes, but millions to MS is like the dust at the bottom of a bag of Cheetos to us - barely noticeable as long as you keep your hands off of your junk.

I'm violently opposed to rage culture and I'll cut a bitch that disagrees. 🤡

The first step is to fire Phil Spencer. I think this guy is living in an echo chamber/Ivory Tower & completely out of touch.
LOL! No! Phil Spencer has had his position since late 2017. Took over a division that hadn't been funded for the previous 3 to 4 years. Had almost nothing in the pipeline from 2nd party. 6 studios. No identity. Head of Microsoft considered shuttering Xbox. Since has added 17 studios. More than 5x increase to staff. Over 20 million subs generated on a market disrupting product in that time without any major IP. Launched strong hardware. Recruiting highly regarded talent at a high clip. Head of Microsoft has gaming as part of his compensation for the first time ever.

It's not perfect. They are a bit disorganized and lack quality control. Happens when you expand any company quickly. They have to ride out the bad with the good as long as they continue to trend in the right direction overall. They're poised to have a big Fall. If they stumble this fall, then there will be questions. Until then, it still looks on track overall.

Phil is the best thing to happen to Xbox.
