This is the reason why Xbox is dead last. People keep defending failure. He is not good enough. All the „achievements„ listed has more to do with deep pocket than capabilities. Give me 1 billions and I can recruit big bunch of people and studios too.
i give credit for Gamepass and maybe convince higher up to continue Xbox. At his position being good is not good enough, you want someone who is best in the field.

I have criticized him plenty, but this seems silly. The new hardware under him has been great, for all the negavity gamers give the XSS, it is actually a great little machine, I know cause I have one. Gamepass is simply what you do nowadays. He bought in a bunch of new studios.
While I certainly have issues with things, he has got Xbox going back in the right direction.
If anybody lives in an echo chamber it is gamers.
Fortnite is s***. Worst BR I have played...hell, I'd rather play Battlefield's Frestorm BR than terrible Fortnite.

I know a lot of people do not like Fortnite, and not here to promote the game.
However, how the developer creates hype and talking point is an academic study in gaming & beyond. That's why it is the number 1 trending game in google.
While most BR games have maybe balance patches and some special event throughout a season, in Fortnite, the world literally changes throughout a season, making people guess the implication. Like adding helipad land zone, but without helicopters. So people know helicopters are coming. Its obvious but add anticipation. They have a mission where NPC asked you to investigate claw marks & other evidences. Then later investigate a crash landing of a spacecraft. People figure (not that its hard) Predator was coming, & he did, & beating him (cool fight where when he approach cloaked, you hear the hissing sound like in the movie) give you his skin, & you can get his cloaking device to cloak.

Dead last in what context? OG Xbox was new and had manufacturing issuess preventing price drops. Even so, i belive it still outsold Nintendo. 360 was pretty much even with PS3, so joint second. X1 was f***ed from before day 1. You wanna talk stuck in an echo chamber, that was Mattrick. Didn't see many defending that s*** show of a gen.
XSX/S too early. The gen hasn't even really started. They have a huge mountain to climb for sure, though.
Well, they already started out with not enough consoles to meet demand. So they need to fix that for starters.
March or April to find a console supposedly? I don’t recall people having to wait till April to find an Xbox One.
But it had stock issues just like I said, and had far fewer obstacles to overcome.
I recall very vividly Xbox fans defending the Xbox One and the TV functions. A few here actually. I remember when there were votes predicting a 2:1 sales for the PS4 and people went bonkers saying that was mad and not going to happen. Look what sales numbers are now? Consensus is PS4 sold more than double the Xbox One. People will say but MS did not report numbers. We have sales estimates from companies that actually track these sales data for a living. So I don't believe they are talking out of their ass.
Anyways I am sure Xbox will do better this gen as they seem to be focusing more on games. This is a good sign.

My brother-in-law and I bought three Xbox One systems between the two of us on launch day in store without camping out, which would have been unheard of for the Series S or Series X.
His strategy was the one that investors and Nadella bought into. He was able to get the billions. No other lead of the Xbox division has gained the confidence of the board and investors the way Phil has. That's literally 80 to 90% of the game right there.
They are the most profitable they've ever been and growing an industry leading platform (Game Pass) faster than expected. Console is only a fraction of the business and without this other stuff being successful, they wouldn't be getting the money. AAA games take 4 to 5 years to make on average. End of 2021 he'll have been in this position exactly 4 years.
There are people that will defend things because it appeals to them. There's a difference between evaluating what appeals to us individually and being honest about the business of it all. Xbox One, from a business standpoint, was objectively a failure. The things they did towards the end of the gen set them up well for the next cycle though.

But you have to look at the big picture, where X1 was not defended and got demolished.
