They've always counted. That's why the Medium, Call of the Sea and the Ascent counts as well for the Xbox.

So XBox wins the 2nd half of the year in exclusives….. never thought we’d get to say that.
Sony almost never releases anything big at the end of the year

It was a big console war talking point at the beginning of the last gen before Microsoft stopped releasing games. "who has the bigger holiday lineup"

Yup. Xbox tends to launch their bigger hits in the Fall and Holiday window.

Can't wait for the same Xbox fans who sang praises of indie and smaller studio timed exclusive releases from launch to now say it doesn't count for the Sony side when they've been doing the same thing since launch last year.

MS pushing indie games since XBLA. Funny how people chose to forget that.

I was more talking about how Xbox fans have been listing timed Indie and smaller studio exclusives for the first 9 months of launch and now that there's more of these for the Sony side for the latter half of 2021, there's a sudden change in sentiment for the same Xbox fans. Didn't say MS never supported Indies.

When was Ascent announced as timed?

Might go the same path as The Medium.

Right now, The Ascent has not been announced for PS5 or PS4. However, there’s growing belief that it could arrive on PlayStation platforms at some point in the future. The fact that it’s published by a third-party publisher in Curve Digital — something Xbox rarely tends to have full exclusives from — and has been previously mentioned as a timed exclusive for Xbox has led to speculation that we could see it come to PS5 or PS4 down the road.

Yeah most of Sony's big games come in the Spring or late Summer these days.

And again two years later.
Pretty normal in the industry these days, of course they could do what MS does and either announce a game with a CGI trailer and take 4-5 years to release it or just go some years without releasing anything other than indie games :p

So it wasn’t announced.

The internal SSD is soldered to the mother board it's not in the expansion bay, you aren't replacing the internal storage you are expanding it.

You can see here there are two different storage spaces when he's going through the menu.

Yeah I remember seeing in the breakdown video the SSD were soldered onto the motherboard.

So to summarize,

Xbox Storage Expansion Card :
-convenient, plug and install/play
-Proprietary format so no choice.
-expensive for what you get
-Slow compared to the competition.

PS5 SSD Expansion :
-need to know how to use a screwdriver, Watch a YouTube video and have few free minutes
-Standard format in the open market with plenty of choice from all harddrive manufacturing companies.
-Price is right and will decrease faster with time.
-The fastest SSD tech on the market.
-Usable on PC.

-allows you to have multiple cards
-can bring cards with games loaded to friends/family or other Xbox devices at home

-Slower compared to the competition when XVA is not utilized
-Has been available for use for almost a year

The replacement process for PS5 is definitely less convenient, but based on Tom's video you'd think a welding torch was required. It seems minimally invasive and pretty simple. My only question is if it voids your warranty, or has Sony confirmed that it will not?

So PS5 wins for better tech and value. Xbox wins in terms of convenience.
