Xbox gaming division just had a record quarter, so not sure what people are on.
Meh if the games sell more on 2 platforms instead of just 1 it is a necessary evil.
All we know for sure is that they've been posting growth in the Xbox division year after year, MAU has been going up each year, the stockholders are letting them release midgen refreshes, ridiculous amounts of studio acquisitions, expansions and a new one in a very expensive area with best in class hires going on, Phil Spencer got placed into living god status within the company, two new consoles on the way new streaming service, more studio acquisitions etc etc..
Sure they aren't telling us the whole story but all signs point it going pretty damned good or better than well at the least all things considered.

They haven't announced sales. But as I said, they are doing better than ever. I think that is their goal. Xbox and Microsoft Windows PC for gaming are both of their priorities as those are their products. I would do the same.
If what you say is true they would have stopped doing it. Instead they have expanded it. You want to try to console war it up and that’s just not the industry (at least for Microsoft) anymore.
Beccccaaauuussseee the gaming hardware isn't doing all that great.
If they had PS4 numbers or sold as fast as the Switch this wouldn't be happening.
Them allowing exclusives to go to other platforms takes away that edge they had.
So you know ms is making less money then last gen? Did you factor RROD 360 had? No didn't think so...
If it wasn't for the RROD the difference would be even larger.
We are talking console vs sales not revenue anyway.
Or, you know...... maybe its because you only make money on console once and can make more money for much longer on software so its probably best to spread your games out a bit. This was bound to happen. It's just too smart not to.
I dunno... just speculating.
