lol @ the Vegan. Talk about douchey-looking. There's a lot of vegan push-back to this diet. No surprise there.
Anyhow, this isn't about Shawn Baker, although he's a good source of info. I could link you to nearly a hundred physician-led presentations on this issue. But I'll spare the thread that derail, because that's not really what it's about.
First, the thread is called "Anyone doing the low/no carb diet"? How is digging deeper into the topic of the thread considered a "thread derail"? SMH...
Second, I think Shawn Baker may indeed not be a good source of info. He got his medical license taken from him, but still introduces himself as an MD. He wears tank tops 40 years after the last acceptable age to do so, and when Joe Rogen asked him about getting blood work done he scoffs and responds with "Tell me a blood test that tells me how healthy I am". As I said, I've watched 30 seconds of this guy speak and red flags are popping up all around him.
Every fad diet known to man has "MD's" who cite "hundreds of sources/studies/examples" supporting their bogus claims. I'm not kidding. Go look up the people pushing the grapefruit, alkaline, the cabbage soup diet etc... They, without fail, say things like "The mainstream doesn't want us to hear about this data because of personal self interest. There's a massive industry that makes millions shielding us from the truth. Only a select few of us have the real data". These diets appeal to conspiracy theorist guy. If you consider yourself one of those people, be extra careful.
It sounds like this diet is working for you right now and that's actually awesome. I don't think what you're doing is wrong. Trying things out to experience them yourself is the way to go. I applaud what you're doing. However, here's what's most likely going to happen, because this is what happens with all adopters of fad diets.
Fad diets work initially for two main reasons. One, they limit the amount of calories a person consumes. Two, they're packaged in a way that gets people excited. If you happen upon a diet that makes you think "I can do that!" then you're most likely going to stick with the diet for longer than a diet that forces you to eat broccoli. Your energy + seeing results will absolutely get the ball rolling in terms of weight loss.
However these fad diets always leave people feeling like s*** eventually because your body needs essential vitamins and minerals that you're not getting. Results will shrink in month two, you won't feel quite as good as you do now, something stressful will pop up, then the Carnivore diet becomes something that you "tried doing a few months back, and it actually worked for me but I just got swamped...I should get back on it soon".
You said Shawn Baker isn't pushing anything which gave him credibility in your eyes. Shawn Baker has a book on Amazon called "The Carnivore Diet". The guy is propheting off telling people they don't have to eat vegetables.
Vegetables are good for you.
