Assassin’s Creed IV: Avast ye lubbers, the Black Flag is officially flown

I think what I'm most excited about this game is the fact that the devs are saying it's truly more of a sandbox than the other games in the series. I'm excited to see this because IMO the games were all pretty sandboxish, so if they are taking it even further than normal it should be interesting.

It definitely looks like the best AC yet, but I'm a bit burned out on the series.

You and everyone else. But I'm willing to give this one a shot because pirates. I agree, though, Ubisoft is milking this franchise as if it was Call of Duty.

I think that's mostly in reference to the fact that they set you loose relatively early (Chapter 3, I think) with your own pirate ship. Keep in mind, a lot of that "sandbox" is going to be empty ocean. But the same was the case with Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and that game was super-fun.

As someone who is burned out, what did you think of the multiplayer? Does it have legs?
From the perspective of someone who has played all the AC games and is NOT burned out yet, I don't think the current MP really has much legs. I usually spend about 2 hours total in the MP. It's fun, but doesn't have the lasting appeal of other games. I haven't read much about the MP in AC4, but I assume it'll be similar.

What would be really cool is if they had multiplayer naval battles where you could board each other's ships and stuff.

Like Zack said, MP doesn't have legs. It's fun for awhile especially with friends, but it's not something I ever came back to after a few hours of playing.

It's a shame to hear that about the multiplayer. The studio who made the original Spies vs. Mercs apparently worked on it.

I always thought it looked interesting but the more I read about it and watched, it just never seemed like a fully featured MP game.

This just looks amazing. Definitely gonna get this, either on my 360 or X1. Gonna get 3 first. I've really been enjoying AC2, won't be getting into the rest of the Ezio trilogy, maybe one day, but it's gonna be cool walking into completely different worlds, so to speak. Really looking forward to the future of the series.

The MP game style is alright..but it gets old quick. It's not engaging or terribly fun

I might give it a shot, but on the One
will not do MP, there really is no reason to have it
it should just be left as a SP
but that's my opinion

I was playing AC 2 earlier this year and lost interest. I need to go back and start over.

But AC Black Flag looks great! If i was getting a next gen console this would be day 1 for me.

current gen vs next and pc.

The bottom one where it's raining is the most impressive difference I think. They all look good though.

Nexgen is obviously superior, but the current gen is not too shabby I think. If you had shown me current gen screens alone and better versions never entered into my vision, then I'd be perfectly fine.

Nextgen is obviously going to have more texture-detail and better draw distance. But it doesn't look like it's going to be drastically different to the point of justifying a console purchase for a multiplatform title alone.

I don't know, it's a pretty big improvement. ACIV is definitely a game I could see myself double dipping on. The improvements just look great in my eyes.

Yeah, MP is like a silly add on to the game, wish they would just drop it and add more to the campaign.

Why do you feel this way? What's broken from a gameplay perspective about the multiplayer portion? I'm just curious because, judging from Ubisofts forums, there's a pretty hardcore and dedicated multiplayer fanbase there. I usually think there's something to it if a community thrives alongside a game like this.

So I just saw an ACIV commercial on TV a little while ago, and it said "exclusive content on PS3 / PS4" and it had a picture of Aveline from AC: Liberation next to it. I'm assuming she's playable for an exclusive mission or something on Sony consoles? Anyone know specifically what the deal is?

When they added it in a few games back it seemed just like a baked in add-on for the sake of it, just for them to say they had MP. It was a different MP style but I didn't feel like it had any meat to it. Each iteration since hasn't really built that much more on to the previous, a little bit but not huge jumps to make it seem like a substantial part of the gameplay experience. I mean we look at BF and we see a primarily MP game with a tacked on SP, Assassins Creed to me is a SP game with a tacked on MP. This is all my opinion thought, not knocking any community that there is. Just that if there was a tradeoff between SP and adding MP in then I would personally want them to put more into the SP, but if no tradeoffs occur then MP is fine I guess.

Eventually, Ass Creed will go down the path of COD and become mostly a MP affair. Get ready fans.

LOL

She's playable in some form, Ubisoft hasn't given any details on that front.

I just don't think it feels like AC. Too chaotic.

So I saw the commercial again, and for clarification, it says the PS3 / PS4 versions have 60 minutes of exclusive content. That, combined with the fact that they put a picture of Aveline right next to it does seem to imply there's some single-player Aveline content in ACIV. Yessssss.
