Assassin’s Creed IV: Avast ye lubbers, the Black Flag is officially flown

Just got back from the launch event in Hollywood. I got to spend a lot of time with the game, both the naval and the land aspects of the game.

They had the game running on PS4s and it looked truly stunning. I saw enemy ships appear through translucent waves, smoke billowing and filling the screen from cannon fire, and lush islands, teeming with life.

Textures were superb, as was the framerate. Some NPCs did pop-in when I was roaming around one particular populate island, and the foliage doesn't quite react as well as the PC version, but it was visually still very impressive.

Ship to ship and hand to hand combat are both quite challenging, and the player has a lot of freedom to choose how to engage enemies in battles.

After a while, I realized how the game had just sucked me into the world - and indeed, just about everyone who got to play the game tonight had to be forced to pass the controller to the next person waiting in line. You don't realize how much time flies by when you are navigating the seas, or exploring islands.

I can't wait to play the rest of the game.

FU(K next gen,I'll send off the :360: with this game...if the review concensus is positive.

Yo Acey,post pics man!

Awesome, hope it looks and plays just as well on the X1! This is quickly becoming my most anticipated launch title. Always been a huge AC fan.

The event was held at a club in Hollywood, and only two demo stations were set up, so there wasn't much to photograph, except of course for the celebrities and beautiful women there.

I was told it will look identical.

The island and sea exploration do sound fun. Thanks for the impressions, ace.

My iPhone 5 sure takes some craptacular photos. Here's one showing the main dance floor. Elijah Wood is up in the VIP section (not that you can see from this pic).

Not loving the leaked gameplay that has been released this far.

It's the same engine used in AC3, which looked great. Obviously, next gen will look way better.

Anyone know if AC4 has a trade up program?

TL,DW impressions?

Looks much better than AC3 gameplay wise that's for sure.

What system? Supposedly everyone is jerking over the next-gen visuals, but I'm just gonna grab it for PS3. Not buying a console at launch just to play an AC game, of all things.

PS4 version what I linked was the stream archive so you can watch it anytime. I heard the PS3 version of AC4 runs like complete ass, much worse than AC3.

I'll see what the reviews have to say about it. Supposedly IGN's will be up at 12:01AM tomorrow night. If it's that bad, I'll just skip ACIV altogether like I should be doing with franchises that get milked this badly.

A little spoiled milk never killed anyone!

Well that's a positive

Indeed, I have more interest in this than I did in AC3...and I had none in AC3.

Yea, Hayten was the best part about AC3 from what I played; I got bored rather quickly and turned it back into Red Box.

I hated the beginning of ACIII more than anything. I want to play through the game again, but I don't want to play the horrible beginning again...

I loved nearly everything about AC3. From the story, to the gameplay, to the graphics. I didn't like a few things like how scenes would cut to white, taking me out of the experience, and the repetitive nature of the combat did get old towards the end. Finally, that last scene was torturous. Overall though, I've got a lot of love for that game. I'm really looking forward to AC4, which should have some good tidbits in terms of story.

^Those missions in AC2 felt more Tom Raider than the new Tomb Raider.

French Magazine Jeux Video gave the game 18/20 (weird ass scoring system). here is what they had to say:

-World map is great
- A lot of things to do
- Stealth also praised; you can choose how to approach your target, etc.
- Game has some technical problems
- Cities are supposedly better than AC3 (for free running)
- A true Assassin’s Creed game, the most accomplished of the franchise
- Slower combat than Assassin’s Creed III
- Less weapons
- Fewer new types of enemies
- Naval battles are fantastic
- You’ll play as Edward for about 10 minutes after launching the game on your console
- Economic system of is easier to understand and really well made (you board ships, and sell resources)
- Need to upgrade your ship to succeed on later sea battles
- To upgrade your ship you’ll need resources
- Get resources by boarding ships
- Taking forts have an impact on Edward’s progression; it will reveal the location of special places such as caves
- In all main or secondary missions you can play stealthy if you choose to
- The involvement of Edward in the Templar-Assassin conflict is a bit predictable but still well done by Darby; will see a lot of history events
- You’ll need about 20 hours to complete the main path and 50 hours to complete everything.

- Conclusion: AC4 is the most successful game of the franchise; better mechanics of gameplay, better level design, the game is a real success.

I hope what they say is true. Let's wait for the review embargo to be lifted and find out.
