Yet their engine does something virtually no other game does.

Can't say that about the dice rolling turn based system in BG3. It isn't modern, but the things outside it might be. Quests, dialogue, choices, skills, etc.

It isn't a knock against the game either. If anything, it just highlights the good work they did.

I’m not sure I agree about Starfield’s engine doing things no other game can do .. but it sounds like we’re on the same page otherwise.

As I said before I like both games. Two of the best of the year imo, not that it means anything coming from a dad with barely enough time to play more than 5-6 games per year lol.

Maybe explain what that comment meant then.
Object persistence. Very few games do this outside Bethesda games. Only games likely to have it are survival games, Valheim, Ark, etc.

I don't know if others "can't do it" which is why I worded my comment as such. All I do know is very few games do it. Even fewer do it on Starfield's scale.

What about PS Plus? Seems nobody ever talks about that.

Maybe because the effect isn't as big on the PS side as PS gamers just buy more in general. DF said the Gamepass cannibalizing effect close to 80%. So maybe that effect is still significant for third party partners unless MS pays up the diff.

Richard: "If you're into Microsoft first party games, a lot of people just aren't going to buy them in the first place, with Gamepass there."

Richard: "Sales have collapsed, haven't they? I mean we can track sales data and Microsoft first party titles have vanishingly small game sales now because of the prevalence of Gamepass."

John: "Yep, I feel like they've collapsed about 80% versus where they were prior to Gamepass. And for good reason, I mean, the Xbox faithful are very into Gamepass."

Do we need to post all the devs that have said that GP has increased their sales? I feel like this is a broken record. We keep going round and round.

Richard doesn't know the sales of MS games. And MS game software sales have continued to CLIMB in revenue and profit, as has their services.

No need, MS has already admitted to it via trial documents

So let me get this right. Larian is concerned about Game Pass taking away revenue. But his game is for sale on PC, PS and Xbox.

But they were fine with the revenue that Google offered them to be a Stadia streaming exclusive?

Why is there no need to supply developers quotes stating that Game Pass has increased game sales for them?

Because the very company you are trying to defend has already admitted to it. A lot of leaked documents that came out this year showed and confirmed a lot of suspicions.

You can still do it if you feel like it lol. Not stopping you. It is what it is though. I'm sure MS knows their own sales better than anyone else.

:sigh:

Microsoft's comments on Game Pass are located in the report section where Microsoft argues that subscription services like Game Pass (MGS) are not a separate market from B2P. Microsoft views Game Pass and other subscription services as a type of different payment from B2P.

:sigh:

I do notice Gamepass has great deals for existing subscribers so that helps their baseline I'm sure. But as a third party , does that payment get also referred back to Larian let's say if they do go on Gamepass or is it all gone to MS?

We probably won't ever know unless more leaks come out but it is interesting , I tell ya.

It is a sale. Larian gets 70% as per the norm.

Maybe 12 months or more down the line then when the initial launch sales boost has died down

All I'm saying is MS knows how they are assigning the numbers. If you read these lengthy articles, they aren't just black and white. There's depth to it. I also don't want to go around and around on this. I've been trying to "bite my tongue" on these topics, because they don't lead anywhere.

I don't think anyone is arguing about it coming to game pass day 1.
(It would have been a cool announcement on TGA).

Just think it will at some point.

Might be a while... but anything is possible for sure. I'm sure once they've exhausted most of the initial hype, they will turn to the PS+ and GP services to gain more exposure.

I get that, yes. But it doesn't really take a genius to figure out why you would stop reporting console sales numbers... then now Gamepass numbers (almost 2 years for any official subscribers numbers update)... maybe they will just play around with it some more and report under a different category like I don't know, just % gains of revenues or something else vague where we can't see all the details.

Just like how Sony stopped reporting PS+ numbers now halfway through this year, you usually stop reporting once something can't shine the company or product in a good light anymore.

It will. The sales will drop off quick. This will be in Game Pass before the summer, and Larian will be the ones asking for it to be included.
