It's not an action RPG. It's strategic, so some plans has to be thought out.

It's very good. However, my friend and I have encountered issues with Act 3 and it's become a bit annoying.

It's till worth the hype. If on fence, look at Divinity and Divinity 2. Those are great Larian games, but not DND based rules. They aren't on sale at the moment, but would probably be a lot cheaper the next time a sale comes along.

I actually like old school turn based games, I've just mostly stuck with Xcom type shooters. My guess is I'll like it, but only if I basically throw myself into it. We'll see. I think the sale ends in a day or two.

You should like it given your proclivity toward turn based games. The game has ALOT of meat to it and will keep you busy for a while. Act 3 was problematic for me but maybe with all the patches they've fixed alot of issues.

I finally started playing this. Created a fighter but was bored so I re-did with a Ranger.

I like it. There's a lot going on and I'm still mostly clueless, going to watch a few beginner videos. I'm starting to get the hang of combat. There's just so many options.

I'm not sure I see the game of the year side of this yet. The graphics and animations are fine, but nothing to blow me away. I can appreciate the depth and dialog though, even just starting out. That's not to say I regret getting it, I can definitely see the fun in playing. Kind of addictive in an old school kind of way. Never know what you'll find around the next corner.

One question - do I pick up everything or just leave junk?

Pick up EVERYTHING. This game has a knack for the mundane being important down the line. Irritatingly so.

As someone who played it at release to completion, I'll say play some more and the GOTY qualities will start showing up. Do I agree with how the industry and fans seem to think this is a Game of a generation type game? Absolutely not. 3rd Act proves that is spades as does some of the 2nd act. But its still a pretty good game. Just not up their with me in the pantheon of games I consider masterpieces.

For me the game really started picking up in the second act, I still liked the first act and it really feels like a better version of dragon age origins which i really enjoyed.

There's also so much content you can miss so make sure to explore everything, heck there's even main companions you can completely miss as well. I also liked the difficulty options of turning down enemy aggression etc.

I can see why people gave it their GOTY, but I agree with wshowers it just doesn't feel like a game of the generation for me or the second coming of Jesus like some would want you to believe.

I played 6 hours and haven't gone back to it.

I would say it does a lot of thing very well. The exploration, the feel of attack especially melee. amount of control in combat & how to form your team.

You can basically find your favorite team and make it work rather then force to pick certain combination.
I have for instead no range class. I just give everyone a bow so they can fire the arrow sroll when need. Instaed I buff alot of magic and ways to close up enemies. I never bothered with healing spell. Just have big S damage, & kill most before they do enough harm. I give Lazel the biggest S weapon and she 1-2 shots most mobs.

I think what I am saying is, its a complete package. There is also a little bit of nonsense politics that Larian is a "small studio" & got extra brownies points against the "evil and greedy" big corporations.

Game of generation should be WOW, and I am not even a hardcore WOW player ( I think I played 80 hours total or so). I mean this game is older than most Fortnite gamers, and still kicking S today and outlive suppose WOW killers for almost 2 decades.

I might go back to a fighter. The ranged build seemed odd, as "my" character was always the one starting the fight up close.

I can appreciate the depth to the game for sure. It really is a deep RPG. I'm looking forward to getting back into it.

My unpopular opinion for this game is that it should have been scrutinized just as hard as Cyberpunk was upon release. The game released in Aug 2023 and we're still getting Major patches( 7 to date) to fix issues that should have been fixed in early access.

It didn't get buggy for me until ACT 3. Most likely why it was greatly reviewed when first released. I love the game, I think deserves all the credit it has gotten. However, some of those bugs in Act 3 is annoying. Mostly because I'm co-oping, so maybe it's not a big deal to most.

Shows how many reviewers don’t even finish games, they probably didn’t even experience act 3 and its problems before hand. They sure let us know all the issues Starfield had though 🤷🏻‍♂️

Ok, I'm totally stuck. There's this part with a dragon (I'm at the end of act 1 I think). I can't avoid a fight and I just insta-die. These people run around and one hit all my characters before I have a chance to even move. I have a 25% chance to hit, miss and die. No amount of saving and reloading helps.

This game is super frustrating and explains nothing. I even tried searching and everyone is like "yeah it is a tough fight". I'm not even close, I'm dead before I even move.

If MS owned Larian, this game would've got s***ted on non stop for the bugs and shawn would've post sensationalized tweets from "business insiders" and "prestigious" gaming site.

I'm trying to think of what fight you're in, is it at grymforge? That big ass dude in the fire? Also have you turned everything down to easy?

I'm just clearly underleveled, but there's nothing left for me to do. The entire opening map is open. I can only fight the hag (who wrecks me) or the gith people (who wreck me even faster).

I don't know where else to go.

Welcome to my world. I still haven't been able to finish Super Lucky's Tale.

Forgive me because its been a while since I played it but is it the red dragon that destroyed the bridge?

My #1 problem is everything misses for me.,

65% chance to hit? Miss every time.
55% chance to hit? Miss every time.
45% chance to hit? Miss every time.

I'm not even kidding, my chance to hit is probably 10% if I'm lucky.

I tried going somewhere else, and there are 50 goblins by the spawn point throwing fire before I can even move.

Seriously, what am I doing wrong? There's just no way to beat this. The math doesn't work in a turn based game. My party is 90% dead before they move. I'm on regular difficulty.

Change to easy :p

I'm pretty sure the dragon just flew off for me? Every guide I'm looking at says the same.

Also you don't have to fight the patrol if you have Laezel in your party and pass a persuasion check for her to play along.

The dragon flew off, but the people destroyed me.

I tried that but there's multiple rolls. Hitting them all seems low. Winning like 4-5 50/50 rolls in a row just isn't likely.

Did everyone just play on easy? I did manage to kill all the goblins by throwing grease on the ground and setting it on fire. The thing is, I thought I cleared that part.

What?
BG3 bugs are not remotely close to Cyberpunk where game is unplayble on last gen consoles.

Ah my bad, I've seen people say their game bugged out and had to fight the dragon haha.
I've been playing on easy enemy aggression, but normal encounters and haven't had too many dramas so far.

This post seems like a good guide for the quest order, it's easy to miss entire sub plots in this game.
