Comparing 360/PS3/XB1/PS4 multiplats/tech stuff

PS4 has the more powerful GPU = More bells and whistles in games.

And this has been known for a long time.

I don't like having to clean up threads over stupid "He said, she said," nonsense. Discuss what the thread is about people while keeping it clean or you won't be able to participate in the thread any longer.

So the most plausible reason is that the PS4 is possibly reserving only 1 instead of 2 cores? That or the PS4 is clocked higher.

At the end of the day, could this mean that you can get more out of the PS4 CPU than the Xbox One's CPU? If that really is the case, damn, so now both CPU+GPU is in PS4's favour?

The Witcher 3 targeting 30FPS with PhysX destruction

Witcher 3 on ps4/xbox to be 30 fps "targeted". Still no resolution.

As always, we aim for the highest graphics quality, and this naturally imposes limitations. We havenā€™t reached the point in time when weā€™ll be able to divulge details regarding resolutions, but in terms of framerate weā€™re targeting 30 FPS.

Currently, weā€™re using a system for destructibility and cloth simulation which is based on NVIDIA PhysX, more specifically using APEX.

There are many factors that determine which effects are executed on PC without performance hassles, and the GPU is of course the primary one.

Project CARS Dev: PS4 Single Core Speed Slower Than High-End PC, Splitting Renderer Across Threads Challenging

ā€œItā€™s been challenging splitting the renderer further across threads in an even more fine-grained manner ā€“ even splitting already-small tasks into 2-3ms chunks. The single-core speed is quite slow compared to a high-end PC though so splitting across cores is essential.

ā€œThe bottlenecks are mainly in command list building ā€“ we now have this split-up of up to four cores in parallel. There are still some bottlenecks to work out with memory flushing to garlic, even after changing to LCUE, the memory copying is still significant.ā€
