... also, has there not been a 3rd party PS4 controller with the xbox controller layout?

I'm getting close to really needing a new console and i'll probably get the One but would consider a PS4 if I could get an xbox style controller for it.

GTA V much improved on both consoles?

gta is much improved. ps4 controller has more features for gta than on xbox one:

also most people prefer the ds4 controller this gen it seems, most forums and reviews i've read it is the preferred controller this gen. ign said it was their favorite. gametrailers even went as far as calling it their favorite controller of all time, which may be a bit much but shows how universally praised the thing is (though it isn't as good for battery life): http://o.canada.com/technology/gaming/xbox-one-vs-ps4-which-consoles-controller-is-better

So why does the PS4 version only support 4 players and the Xbox One supports 6? That doesn't make any sense. One more reason to get it on the One. Once you go green you'll never feel blue again.

Controller preference are subjective no matter what other tried to tell you.

Dude, I'd thought it would be common sense to you now - the cloud, man!

It really is subjective and also pretty substantial for myself.

I'm already not great at games I play to be honest. I don't spend enough time (don't have it) or I don't have the dexterity.

When I play a game with the sticks like the dualshock I simply lose enjoyment playing. I think it's because I really got into gaming with the original Xbox and loved the duke. It was amazing how it just sat in my hands and everything was placed where it was most effortless to perform. I feel like that lay-out is still more valuable than having to turn my thumbs in a way that's unnatural.

The controller for a console, for me, is really important. Hopefully there's a serious 3rd party controller on the horizon for PS4?

Do you guys think if Sony actually released a DS4 with the left side thumbstick in place of the d-pad, they would win over a lot of xbox fans?

The placement doesn't actually bother me at all and I prefer the way the DS4 sticks are. Maybe because I got into gaming with the PS1. Funny how that works out, eh? Seems like whichever console you started out with, you probably prefer more in most cases.

Not really. Alot of people started with PS controller, but feel 360 controller is better.

Now, its about even with people preference of DS4 vs X1. YOu cannot deny that DS4 controller is vastly improved from DS3.

If only they could get the rubber wearing off fixed.

I honestly don't even notice a difference. Both controllers are great and I switch between them without issue. If I really had to choose, I would probably go with the DS4 because the Xbox controller is a little small for my hands. Also that little speaker is really great for a few games. That said, the battery life is so much better on the Xbox controller that it's kind of a wash.

[edit: no autoplay]

Weird, because most outlets and forums and people I have seen prefer the X1 controller. Guess it depends on where you go and who you talk to.

Screw you all,I prefer knobs...

Personally, I prefer the PS4 controller, and last gen, I preferred the PS3 controller.
I liked how the xbox controller "felt" in the hand. It felt better and provided more comfort, but I controlled better using the PS controller.
As a big shooter fan, the control far outweighed how it felt in my hands.

After spending time with both I prefer the PS4 controller. Something just feels off with the Xbox one pad (feels like it has big dead zones or something). And thats coming from a guy who loved the 360 controller.

I like the ds4 better overall, I just hate the stick placement. I wish it was exactly the way it is, but with xb1 placement. For men, that would be he perfect controller.

While the X1 is a better controller, the DS4 is light years better than the DS3 it replaces. The sticks are still annoying. But the MUCH improved weight is a huge help, and it now has a much better form factor. Sadly, the battery life is a POS.

Yeah, it's the deadzones....and the PS3 versus 360 controller was similar, in that the 360 had larger deadzones. Not that big of a deal to some, because you just get used to how much to push to be accurate, but I felt that it was easier in shooters to be more precise on PS3, where I felt I was always fighting with the thumb sticks.

I know it's not a big deal for many, but as a pc player, the closer I get to 1:1 movements, the better.

Overall feel of the DS4, sticks/layout of the X1, and the battery of the Wii U Pro.

for me, this gens controllers are as good as each other in use.

last gen the triggers (none) and sticks (in the wrong place) let the PS3 down, but the widening of the pad and the inclusion of triggers has resolved those issues on PS4 for me. Pity the pad isn't getting used in useful ways other than as an extra (click) button though.

BIG failing is the shocking speed at which the battery drains on the PS4 pads.

For me the xbox sticks by a land slide . More precise movement for first person shooters because "I" prefer the staggered stick layout and also I play near max sensitivity because being able to turn on someone instantly is crucial if you take first person shooters as serious as I do. Lol. To me the xbox controller turns faster then the dual shock. A good example I can use would be destiny. I play on 8 sensitivity level for Xbox one and 10 for PlayStation 4 and at 10 its still not fast enough for me. But honestly one controller is not better then the other in general.. It comes down to what's better for "you".

Now as far as adventure games go and fighting games I prefer the ps4 controller . they did an awesome job with it this generation.

Totally agreed. I read somewhere that the X1 controller has a bigger dead zone area and from personal experience, it seems to hold true. I aim better on the DS4 and therefore perform better in online matches.

Nobody knows if "most" do, since no one here has seen all polls....but quite a bit of polls do indicate that people do prefer the PS4 controller.

There are several sites, and many of them point to the same conclusion:

Polar, a company that specializes in conducting polls, said it appears that gamers favor the PS4's controller by about a 3-to-1 margin. One poll asks whether gamers prefer the PS4 DualShock 4's triggers or the Xbox One's triggers. To this point, 2,147 participants have voted in favor of the DualShock 4's triggers, while 743 gamers indicated that they favor the Xbox One's controller.

its crazy because when the PS3 allowed up to 7 players, no one cared to boast about it. in fact, it wasn't even given a thought, and so it was underutilised. so in return, Sony omitted this feature as well as the pressure sensitive buttons. http://www.giantbomb.com/profile/furtivespy/lists/7-player-offline-games/82340/

having said that, how must we use that saying of yours now?

on topic

as this gen creeps on, people may find that the Tpad may pose more of an advantage for games than what it was originally given credit for (a gimmick). I say this because last gen, many games either ran out of inputs, leading to multiple actions in a single button, or the inputs that were currently available weren't sufficient enough for the types of tasks in the game. the problem with launch titles were due to the feature's newness, no one knew how to properly take advantage of it without it being passed off as just a gimmick feature. gyro is another feature I believe is going to turn up in more future titles as it is far more precise than the sixaxis in the PS3.

Actually, people did...lol!! That was some of the funniest debates on TXB back when the details came out on those consoles. We were like....seriously? LOL

PS4's rubber grips are nice. Trying it at a buddy's place, it felt tight. Never tried any kind of rubber grip on a gamepad before. Not going to bother with the whole "rubber peeling" issue since I never experienced that when I tried it. It was smooth.

X1's battery life is better. I've had the system since launch and have recharged it little. The sticks are better placed and the feel (size of the controller) is more comfortable and a bit bigger. Maybe if someone has smaller hands, the PS4's layout is better. The triggers are still better on X1.

So to answer the OP, I think X1's controller is better overall for another generation.

not sure what went on at the other site, but its irrelevant here. I was speaking of the media and developers in regards to anyone even giving so much as a care about the feature, let alone taking advantage of it, and thus it was scraped by Sony. now, whether they ignored it because the console was in last place at the time or the DS3 wasn't the most popular controller or the console was too difficult to program for to even bother utilising the unique feature or perhaps online was seen as a more natural alternative. all I know is when the controller did support it, it was ignored almost completely and instead, the focus was placed on the standard style of game play (2 to 4 players).

Actually it is very relevant here.

I never implied it. obviously you misinterpreted my post and went off course. therefore, it is irrelevant here to what I had told you. feel free to remain as relentless as you want, but i'm done with it.
